Jonah Preaches at Nineveh
1Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying,
2“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.”
3So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three-day journey in extent.
4And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day’s walk. Then ⚓he cried out and said, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”
The People of Nineveh Believe
5So the ⚓people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them.
6Then word came to the king of Nineveh; and he arose from his throne and laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth ⚓and sat in ashes.
7⚓And he caused it to be proclaimed and published throughout Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying,
Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; do not let them eat, or drink water.
8But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God; yes, ⚓let every one turn from his evil way and from ⚓the violence that is in his hands.
9⚓Who can tell if God will turn and relent, and turn away from His fierce anger, so that we may not perish?
10⚓Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.

Giô-na tại Ni-ni-ve
1Một lần nữa, Chúa Hằng Hữu lại bảo Giô-na:
2“Con hãy vùng dậy, đi qua thành phố lớn Ni-ni-ve mà công bố sứ điệp Ta đã truyền cho con."
3Vậy, Giô-na vùng dậy, đi qua Ni-ni-ve, theo lệnh của Chúa Hằng Hữu. Ni-ni-ve là một thành phố lớn, đi quanh thành phải mất ba ngày.
4Vào thành, Giô-na đi một ngày và lớn tiếng tuyên bố: "Còn 40 ngày nữa, Ni-ni-ve sẽ bị phá đổ!"
5Nhân dân Ni-ni-ve tin Thượng Đế, nên họ thông báo nhịn ăn và mặc áo tang⚓ từ nhỏ đến lớn đều răm rắp tuân hành.
6Sứ điệp truyền đến tận hoàng đế Ni-ni-ve. Hoàng đế đang ngồi trên ngai liền đứng dậy, cởi bỏ vương bào, mặc áo tang và ngồi trong tro.
7Hoàng đế truyền lệnh cho các nhà lãnh đạo quốc dân thông báo khắp kinh đô rằng: "Bất luận người hay vật, bất kể bầy bò hay bầy chiên, tất cả đều phải nhịn ăn! Tuyệt đối không được ăn uống,
8tất cả người và vật đều phải mặc áo tang! Mỗi người phải gắng sức cầu khẩn Chân Thần! Mỗi người phải lìa bỏ con đường gian ác và công việc hung dữ của mình!⚓
9Biết đâu Chân Thần ngó lại, đổi ý, ngưng⚓ cơn phẫn nộ phừng phừng của Ngài và cho chúng ta thoát chết!"
10Thượng Đế thấy việc họ làm, biết họ lìa bỏ đường gian ác, nên Ngài đổi ý không giáng tai họa hình phạt như Ngài đã phán.
