Jonah Preaches at Nineveh
1Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying,
2“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.”
3So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three-day journey in extent.
4And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day’s walk. Then ⚓he cried out and said, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”
The People of Nineveh Believe
5So the ⚓people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them.
6Then word came to the king of Nineveh; and he arose from his throne and laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth ⚓and sat in ashes.
7⚓And he caused it to be proclaimed and published throughout Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying,
Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; do not let them eat, or drink water.
8But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God; yes, ⚓let every one turn from his evil way and from ⚓the violence that is in his hands.
9⚓Who can tell if God will turn and relent, and turn away from His fierce anger, so that we may not perish?
10⚓Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.

Giô-na Vâng Lời Chúa
1CHÚA phán với Giô-na lần thứ nhì:
2“Con hãy đi ngay đến thành phố Ni-ni-ve to lớn kia, và rao truyền cho dân trong thành sứ điệp mà Ta đã phán dạy con.”
3Giô-na vâng lời CHÚA đi ngay đến Ni-ni-ve. Ni-ni-ve là một thành phố vô cùng to lớn, phải mất ba ngày mới đi xuyên qua hết thành phố.
4Giô-na khởi sự vào thành, đi được một ngày, rồi rao giảng: “Còn bốn mươi ngày nữa, thành Ni-ni-ve sẽ sụp đổ.”
5Dân thành Ni-ni-ve tin Đức Chúa Trời. Họ công bố kiêng ăn, và mọi người từ lớn đến nhỏ đều quấn vải thô.
6Khi tin đồn đến tai vua Ni-ni-ve, vua đứng dậy khỏi ngai, cởi áo bào ra, quấn vải thô và ngồi trên đống tro.
7Vua truyền lệnh công bố khắp thành Ni-ni-ve: “Theo chiếu chỉ của vua và các quan, người và thú, không được nếm gì cả, cũng không được uống nước, thú không được ăn cỏ.
8Người và thú đều phải quấn vải thô. Mọi người phải tha thiết cầu khẩn Đức Chúa Trời, xây bỏ lối sống ác và hành vi phạm pháp.
9Biết đâu Đức Chúa Trời sẽ xây lại thương xót chúng ta, cơn nóng giận Ngài sẽ nguôi đi, và chúng ta khỏi chết?”
10Đức Chúa Trời nhìn thấy điều họ làm, Ngài thấy họ xây bỏ lối sống ác. Vì thế Đức Chúa Trời đổi ý, không giáng tai họa theo như Ngài đã phán.
