Obedience Better than Fasting
1Now in the fourth year of King Darius it came to pass that the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, on the fourth day of the ninth month, Chislev,
2when the people sent Sherezer, with Regem-Melech and his men, to the house of God, to pray before the Lord,
3and to ⚓ask the priests who were in the house of the Lord of hosts, and the prophets, saying, “Should I weep in ⚓the fifth month and fast as I have done for so many years?”
4Then the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying,
5“Say to all the people of the land, and to the priests: ‘When you ⚓fasted and mourned in the fifth ⚓and seventh months⚓during those seventy years, did you really fast ⚓for Me—for Me?
6⚓When you eat and when you drink, do you not eat and drink for yourselves?
7Should you not have obeyed the words which the Lord proclaimed through the ⚓former prophets when Jerusalem and the cities around it were inhabited and prosperous, and ⚓the South and the Lowland were inhabited?’ ”
Disobedience Resulted in Captivity
8Then the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying,
9“Thus says the Lord of hosts:
⚓‘Execute true justice,
Show mercy and compassion
Everyone to his brother.
10⚓Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless,
The alien or the poor.
⚓Let none of you plan evil in his heart
Against his brother.’
11“But they refused to heed, ⚓shrugged their shoulders, and ⚓stopped their ears so that they could not hear.
12Yes, they made their ⚓hearts like flint, ⚓refusing to hear the law and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. ⚓Thus great wrath came from the Lord of hosts.
13Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so ⚓they called out and I would not listen,” says the Lord of hosts.
14“But ⚓I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they had not known. Thus the land became desolate after them, so that no one passed through or returned; for they made the pleasant land desolate.”

4Anai yơh jing boh hiăp Yahweh Dưi Kơtang pơtă kơ kâo,
5“Laĭ bĕ kơ ƀing ană plei amăng anih lŏn anai wơ̆t hăng ƀing khua ngă yang mơ̆n: Tơdang ƀing gih kơŭ kơuăn kŏm ƀơ̆ng huă amăng blan tal rơma laih anŭn amăng blan tal tơjuh amăng tơjuhpluh thŭn anai laih, tơlơi ƀing gih ngă anŭn kiăng kơ pơpŭ pơyom kơ Kâo hă?
6Laih anŭn, tơdang ƀing gih ƀơ̆ng hăng mơñum, ƀu djơ̆ ôh hă tơlơi anŭn jing kơnơ̆ng kiăng kơ mơak hrăp kơ gih pô đôč?”
7“Anai yơh jing tơlơi Yahweh hơmâo pơhiăp laih mơ̆ng ƀing pô pơala Ñu đưm hlâo adih tơdang amăng rơnŭk plei Yerusalaim đĭ kơyar bă hăng mơnuih, anŭn jing tơdang amăng rơnŭk hơmâo lu mơnuih ƀu djơ̆ kơnơ̆ng hơdip amăng plei pla jum dar plei Yerusalaim đôč ôh, samơ̆ ăt hơmâo mơnuih hơdip amăng tring gah thu̱ng laih anŭn amăng anih tring čư̆ gah yŭ̱ mơ̆n.”

10Anăm kơtư̆ juă ôh ƀing djai rơkơi, ƀing tơhrit tơhruai, ƀing tuai hơdip amăng plei pla gih ƀôdah ƀing ƀun rin kơƀah kơƀap. Laih anŭn dơ̆ng, anăm pơkra mơneč kiăng kơ ngă sat kơ tơdruă ôh.’
11“Samơ̆ ƀing ơi adon gơñu anŭn khăng akŏ hơngah ƀu kiăng hơmư̆ tui ôh. Ƀing gơñu kơđŏt hĭ tơngia gơñu ƀu kiăng pơđi̱ng hơmư̆ kiăng kơ thâo hluh ôh,
12laih anŭn ƀing gơñu pơkhăng hĭ pran jua gơñu hrup hăng boh pơtâo. Yuakơ ƀing gơñu ƀu kiăng hơmư̆ ôh tơlơi pơtô Kâo pơtă laih mơ̆ng ƀing pô pơala đưm hlâo adih kơ ƀing gơñu, tui anŭn Kâo hil biă mă kơ ƀing gơñu.
13“Yahweh Dưi Kơtang laĭ tui anai, ‘Yuakơ ƀing gơñu hơngah ƀu kiăng hơmư̆ ôh tơlơi Kâo pơtô, tui anŭn Kâo ăt hơngah ƀu kiăng hơmư̆ tơlơi ƀing gơñu kwưh iâu kơ Kâo mơ̆n.
14Laih anŭn dơ̆ng, Kâo puh pơđuaĭ hĭ laih ƀing gơñu nao hơdip amăng lu lŏn čar tuai, hrup hăng sa glung angĭn rơbŭ puh pơđuaĭ hĭ adrăng yơh. Tui anŭn, anih lŏn hiam kơmơ̆k anai arăng lui raih jing hĭ anih hông hang laih anŭn ƀu hơmâo hlơi pô hơdip pơ anŭn ôh.’ ”
