Mẹ người tên là Ma-a-ca, con gái của A-bi-sa-lôm. 3 Người đi trong các tội lỗi của cha người đã phạm trước người; và lòng người không trọn lành với Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời người như thể lòng Đa-vít, tổ phụ người. 4 Nhưng vì cớ Đa-vít, Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của người dành cho người một ngọn đèn trong Giê-ru-sa-lem, lập con trai người làm kẻ kế vị người, và khiến cho Giê-ru-sa-lem còn hoài;⚓5 vì Đa-vít làm điều thiện trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, và ngoài việc U-ri, người Hê-tít, trọn đời người không xây bỏ điều gì của Đức Giê-hô-va đã truyền cho.⚓6 Vả, Rô-bô-am và Giê-rô-bô-am đánh giặc nhau trọn đời mình. 7 Các công việc khác của A-bi-giam, mọi việc người làm, đều chép trong sách sử ký của các vua Giu-đa. A-bi-giam và Giê-rô-bô-am cũng đánh giặc nhau.⚓8 A-bi-giam an giấc với tổ phụ mình, và người ta chôn người tại trong thành Đa-vít. A-sa, con trai người, kế vị người.
A-sa làm vua Giu-đa
9 Năm thứ hai mươi, đời vua Giê-rô-bô-am là vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì A-sa lên ngôi làm vua Giu-đa. 10 Người cai trị bốn mươi mốt năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Bà nội người tên là Ma-a-ca, con gái của A-bi-sa-lôm. 11 A-sa làm điều thiện trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, y như Đa-vít, tổ phụ người, đã làm. 12 Người đuổi bợm vĩ gian khỏi xứ, và dẹp hết thảy hình tượng mà tổ phụ người đã làm.⚓13 Lại, người cũng cất chức thái hậu khỏi Ma-a-ca, bà nội mình, bởi vì có dựng tượng Át-tạt-tê. A-sa đánh hạ hình tượng của bà, đốt tại trong trũng Xết-rôn. 14 Song người không trừ bỏ các nơi cao; dầu vậy, đối với Đức Giê-hô-va, lòng A-sa trọn lành cả đời mình. 15 Người đem để lại trong đền Đức Giê-hô-va những vật thánh của cha người, và những vật mà chính mình người đã biệt riêng ra thánh, hoặc vàng, bạc, hay là các khí dụng. 16 A-sa, vua Giu-đa, và Ba-ê-sa, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, đánh giặc nhau trọn đời mình. 17 Ba-ê-sa, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, đi lên đánh Giu-đa, xây đồn lũy Ra-ma, để làm cho dân sự của A-sa, vua Giu-đa, không ra vào nơi A-sa, vua Giu-đa được. 18 Khi ấy, A-sa bèn lấy hết những bạc và vàng còn lại trong kho của đền Đức Giê-hô-va và trong kho nơi cung của vua, giao cho đầy tớ mình; đoạn sai họ đến Bên-Ha-đát, con trai Táp-ri-môn, cháu Hê-xi-ôn, vua Sy-ri, ở Đa-mách, mà nói rằng: 19 Chúng ta hãy lập giao ước với nhau, y như cha của ông và cha ta đã làm. Kìa, ta sai đem lễ vật bằng bạc và vàng; hãy đi phá lời giao ước của ông với Ba-ê-sa, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, để hắn dan xa ta. 20 Bên-Ha-đát nghe lời vua A-sa; bèn sai các quan tướng mình hãm đánh những thành của Y-sơ-ra-ên, chiếm lấy Y-giôn, Đan, A-bên-Bết-Ma-ca, và cả xứ Ki-nê-rết với xứ Nép-ta-li. 21 Ba-ê-sa hay được điều đó, liền thôi xây đắp đồn Ra-ma, mà rút về ở tại Tiệt sa. 22 Vua A-sa bèn nhóm hết thảy người Giu-đa, không trừ một ai; chúng đem đi những đá và gỗ mà Ba-ê-sa đã dùng xây đắp đồn Ra-ma. Vua A-sa dùng đồ ấy đặng xây cất Ghê-ba trong xứ Bên-gia-min, và Mích-ba. 23 Các công việc khác của A-sa, quyền thế của người, mọi việc người làm, và các thành người xây cất, đều đã chép trong sử ký của các vua Giu-đa. Khi người đã già rồi, thì đau chân. 24 A-sa an giấc cùng tổ phụ người, và được chôn với họ trong thành Đa-vít, tổ tiên người. Giô-sa-phát, con trai người, kế vị người.
Na-đáp làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên
25 Năm thứ hai đời A-sa, vua Giu-đa, Na-đáp, con trai Giê-rô-bô-am, lên ngôi làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, và trị vì trên Y-sơ-ra-ên hai năm. 26 Người làm điều ác trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, đi theo đường của tổ phụ mình, phạm tội mà Giê-rô-bô-am đã phạm và khiến cho Y-sơ-ra-ên can phạm nữa. 27 Ba-ê-sa, con trai A-hi-gia, về nhà Y-sa-ca, làm phản người; trong lúc Na-đáp và cả Y-sơ-ra-ên vây Ghi-bê-thôn, vốn thuộc về dân Phi-li-tin, thì Ba-ê-sa giết người tại đó. 28 Ấy là nhằm năm thứ ba đời A-sa, vua Giu-đa, mà Ba-ê-sa giết Na-đáp và trị vì thế cho người. 29 Vừa khi người lên ngôi làm vua, thì giết hết thảy người thuộc về nhà Giê-rô-bô-am, không để sót một ai, đến đỗi đã diệt hết trong nhà Giê-rô-bô-am, theo như lời Đức Giê-hô-va đã cậy miệng A-hi-gia, kẻ tôi tớ Ngài ở Si-lô, mà phán ra;⚓30 ấy vì cớ tội lỗi của Giê-rô-bô-am đã phạm làm cho Y-sơ-ra-ên cũng phạm tội, và chọc giận Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên. 31 Các công sự khác của Na-đáp, mọi việc người làm, đều đã chép trong sử ký của các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên. 32 Vả, A-sa, vua Giu-đa, và Ba-ê-sa, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, đánh giặc nhau trọn đời mình.
Ba-ê-sa làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên
33 Năm thứ ba đời A-sa, vua Giu-đa, thì Ba-ê-sa, con trai A-hi-gia, lên làm vua cả Y-sơ-ra-ên; người ở tại Tiệt-sa, và cai trị hai mươi bốn năm. 34 Người làm điều ác trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, đi theo đường của Giê-rô-bô-am, và tội lỗi mà Giê-rô-bô-am đã phạm làm cho Y-sơ-ra-ên cũng phạm tội.

Abijah King of Judah
1In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah⚓ became king of Judah, 2and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother’s name was Maakah daughter of Abishalom.⚓ 3He committed all the sins his father had done before him; his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his forefather had been. 4Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong. 5For David had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord and had not failed to keep any of the Lord’s commands all the days of his life—except in the case of Uriah the Hittite. 6There was war between Abijah⚓ and Jeroboam throughout Abijah’s lifetime. 7As for the other events of Abijah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam. 8And Abijah rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. And Asa his son succeeded him as king.
Asa King of Judah
9In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah, 10and he reigned in Jerusalem forty-one years. His grandmother’s name was Maakah daughter of Abishalom. 11Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father David had done. 12He expelled the male shrine prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the idols his ancestors had made. 13He even deposed his grandmother Maakah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah. Asa cut it down and burned it in the Kidron Valley. 14Although he did not remove the high places, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life. 15He brought into the temple of the Lord the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated. 16There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns. 17Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah. 18Asa then took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the Lord’s temple and of his own palace. He entrusted it to his officials and sent them to Ben-Hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, the king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus. 19“Let there be a treaty between me and you,” he said, “as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you a gift of silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so he will withdraw from me.” 20Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. He conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel Beth Maakah and all Kinnereth in addition to Naphtali. 21When Baasha heard this, he stopped building Ramah and withdrew to Tirzah. 22Then King Asa issued an order to all Judah—no one was exempt—and they carried away from Ramah the stones and timber Baasha had been using there. With them King Asa built up Geba in Benjamin, and also Mizpah. 23As for all the other events of Asa’s reign, all his achievements, all he did and the cities he built, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? In his old age, however, his feet became diseased. 24Then Asa rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of his father David. And Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king.
Nadab King of Israel
25Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years. 26He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the ways of his father and committing the same sin his father had caused Israel to commit. 27Baasha son of Ahijah from the tribe of Issachar plotted against him, and he struck him down at Gibbethon, a Philistine town, while Nadab and all Israel were besieging it. 28Baasha killed Nadab in the third year of Asa king of Judah and succeeded him as king. 29As soon as he began to reign, he killed Jeroboam’s whole family. He did not leave Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all, according to the word of the Lord given through his servant Ahijah the Shilonite. 30This happened because of the sins Jeroboam had committed and had caused Israel to commit, and because he aroused the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel. 31As for the other events of Nadab’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 32There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns. 33In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of all Israel in Tirzah, and he reigned twenty-four years. 34He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the ways of Jeroboam and committing the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.
