Micaiah Warns Ahab
1Jehoshaphat ⚓had riches and honor in abundance; and by marriage he ⚓allied himself with ⚓Ahab.
2⚓After some years he went down to visit Ahab in Samaria; and Ahab killed sheep and oxen in abundance for him and the people who were with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramoth Gilead.
3So Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me against Ramoth Gilead?”
And he answered him, “I am as you are, and my people as your people; we will be with you in the war.”
4Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, ⚓“Please inquire for the word of the Lord today.”
5Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?”
So they said, “Go up, for God will deliver it into the king’s hand.”
6But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not still a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of ⚓Him?”
7So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He is Micaiah the son of Imla.”
And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say such things!”
8Then the king of Israel called one of his officers and said, “Bring Micaiah the son of Imla quickly!”
9The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah, clothed in their robes, sat each on his throne; and they sat at a threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.
10Now Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made ⚓horns of iron for himself; and he said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘With these you shall gore the Syrians until they are destroyed.’ ”
11And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the king’s hand.”
12Then the messenger who had gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “Now listen, the words of the prophets with one accord encourage the king. Therefore please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak encouragement.”
13And Micaiah said, “As the Lord lives, ⚓whatever my God says, that I will speak.”
14Then he came to the king; and the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?”
And he said, “Go and prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand!”
15So the king said to him, “How many times shall I make you swear that you tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?”
16Then he said, “I saw all Israel ⚓scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no ⚓shepherd. And the Lord said, ‘These have no master. Let each return to his house in peace.’ ”
17And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”
18Then Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on His ⚓throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right hand and His left.
19And the Lord said, ‘Who will persuade Ahab king of Israel to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner.
20Then a ⚓spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, and said, ‘I will persuade him.’ The Lord said to him, ‘In what way?’
21So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And the Lord said, ‘You shall persuade him and also prevail; go out and do so.’
22Therefore look! ⚓The Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these prophets of yours, and the Lord has declared disaster against you.”
23Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near and ⚓struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, “Which way did the spirit from the Lord go from me to speak to you?”
24And Micaiah said, “Indeed you shall see on that day when you go into an inner chamber to hide!”
25Then the king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son;
26and say, ‘Thus says the king: ⚓“Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I return in peace.” ’ ”
27But Micaiah said, “If you ever return in peace, the Lord has not spoken by ⚓me.” And he said, “Take heed, all you people!”
Ahab Dies in Battle
28So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.
29And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will ⚓disguise myself and go into battle; but you put on your robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself, and they went into battle.
30Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots who were with him, saying, “Fight with no one small or great, but only with the king of Israel.”
31So it was, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, “It is the king of Israel!” Therefore they surrounded him to attack; but Jehoshaphat ⚓cried out, and the Lord helped him, and God diverted them from him.
32For so it was, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.
33Now a certain man drew a bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of his armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am wounded.”
34The battle increased that day, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Syrians until evening; and about the time of sunset he died.

4Giô-sa-phát lại nói với vua Y-sơ-ra-ên: “Nhưng trước hết, chúng ta hãy cầu hỏi Đức Giê-hô-va.”
5Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên triệu tập các nhà tiên tri, khoảng bốn trăm người, và hỏi họ: “Chúng ta nên đi đánh Ra-mốt Ga-la-át hay là nên ngưng lại?” Họ đáp: “Hãy đi! Đức Chúa Trời sẽ phó thành ấy vào tay bệ hạ.”
6Nhưng Giô-sa-phát nói tiếp: “Ở đây còn có nhà tiên tri nào khác của Đức Giê-hô-va để chúng ta nhờ người ấy cầu hỏi không?”
7Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên đáp với Giô-sa-phát: “Còn có một người tên là Mi-chê, con của Giêm-la, nhờ hắn chúng ta có thể cầu hỏi Đức Giê-hô-va. Nhưng tôi ghét hắn, vì hắn không bao giờ nói tiên tri lành về tôi, chỉ toàn là điều dữ.” Giô-sa-phát nói: “Xin vua đừng nói như thế!”
8Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên gọi một quan chức đến và bảo: “Hãy gọi Mi-chê, con của Giêm-la, đến đây ngay!”
9Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, mỗi người đều mặc triều phục, ngồi trên ngai mình ở sân đập lúa tại cửa thành Sa-ma-ri, còn tất cả các nhà tiên tri thì nói tiên tri trước mặt hai vua.
10Sê-đê-kia, con của Kê-na-na, làm các sừng bằng sắt, và nói: “Đức Giê-hô-va phán: ‘Với các sừng nầy, bệ hạ sẽ húc dân A-ram cho đến khi tiêu diệt chúng hoàn toàn.’”
11Tất cả các nhà tiên tri đều nói như thế: “Hãy đi đánh Ra-mốt Ga-la-át, bệ hạ sẽ thắng vì Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ phó thành ấy vào tay bệ hạ.”
12Trong lúc ấy, sứ giả đi mời Mi-chê nói với ông: “Nầy, các nhà tiên tri đều đồng thanh báo cho vua điều lành, vậy tôi xin ông cũng hãy lấy lời lành như họ mà báo cho vua.”
13Nhưng Mi-chê đáp: “Nguyện Đức Giê-hô-va hằng sống! Ta sẽ nói bất cứ điều gì Đức Chúa Trời ta truyền phán.”
14Khi Mi-chê đến, A-háp hỏi: “Nầy Mi-chê, chúng ta nên tiến đánh Ra-mốt Ga-la-át hay là nên ngưng lại?” Ông đáp: “Hãy đi, vua sẽ thắng và chúng sẽ bị phó vào tay hai vua.”
15Vua nói với ông: “Biết bao lần ta phải buộc ngươi thề là không nói với ta điều gì ngoài sự thật nhân danh Đức Giê-hô-va!”
16Mi-chê đáp: “Tôi thấy toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên tản lạc trên các núi như bầy chiên không có người chăn, và Đức Giê-hô-va phán: ‘Những người nầy không còn chủ nữa, ai nấy hãy trở về nhà mình bình an.’”⚓
17Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên nói với Giô-sa-phát: “Tôi đã chẳng nói với ngài rằng người nầy không bao giờ nói tiên tri lành về tôi, chỉ toàn là điều dữ đó sao?”
18Mi-chê nói tiếp: “Vậy, hãy nghe lời của Đức Giê-hô-va. Tôi thấy Đức Giê-hô-va ngự trên ngôi Ngài, còn toàn thể thiên binh đứng chầu bên phải và bên trái.
19Đức Giê-hô-va phán: ‘Ai sẽ dụ A-háp, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, đi đánh Ra-mốt Ga-la-át để ngã chết tại đó?’ Rồi người nói cách nầy, kẻ nói cách khác.
20Bấy giờ, có một thần ra đứng trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va mà thưa rằng: ‘Tôi sẽ đi dụ ông ấy.’ Đức Giê-hô-va phán hỏi: ‘Bằng cách nào?’
21Thần đáp: ‘Tôi sẽ đi ra làm thần nói dối trong miệng các nhà tiên tri của ông ấy.’ Đức Giê-hô-va phán: ‘Phải, ngươi sẽ dụ nó được. Hãy đi làm như thế.’
22Vậy, bây giờ xem kìa Đức Giê-hô-va đã đặt thần nói dối trong miệng các nhà tiên tri của vua, và Đức Giê-hô-va đã dự định giáng họa trên vua.”
23Sê-đê-kia, con của Kê-na-na, đến gần vả vào má của Mi-chê và nói: “Thần Đức Giê-hô-va từ nơi ta đã đi đường nào mà đến nói với ngươi?”
24Mi-chê đáp: “Kìa, trong ngày ngươi chạy từ phòng nầy qua phòng kia để lẩn trốn thì sẽ biết điều đó.”
25Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên truyền lệnh: “Hãy bắt Mi-chê dẫn đến quan cai trị thành là A-môn và hoàng tử Giô-ách.
26Hãy nói: ‘Vua truyền bỏ tù người nầy, lấy bánh và nước khổ nạn mà nuôi nó cho đến khi ta trở về bình an.’”
27Mi-chê nói: “Nếu vua trở về bình an thì hẳn Đức Giê-hô-va đã không dùng tôi mà phán.” Rồi ông nói: “Hỡi toàn dân, hãy nghe điều đó!”
Sự bại trận và cái chết của A-háp
28Vậy vua Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, cùng tiến đánh Ra-mốt Ga-la-át.
29Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên nói với Giô-sa-phát: “Tôi sẽ cải trang rồi ra trận, còn ngài cứ mặc vương bào.” Thế là, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên cải trang, rồi hai vua cùng ra trận.
30Trước đó, vua A-ram đã ra lệnh cho các quan chỉ huy chiến xa rằng: “Đừng áp đánh ai, hoặc nhỏ hay lớn, nhưng chỉ tấn công một mình vua Y-sơ-ra-ên mà thôi.”
31Khi các quan chỉ huy chiến xa thấy Giô-sa-phát thì nói rằng: “Đó là vua Y-sơ-ra-ên!” Họ liền quay sang tấn công vua. Giô-sa-phát kêu cứu và Đức Giê-hô-va giải cứu người. Đức Chúa Trời khiến họ rời khỏi người.
32Vì khi các quan chỉ huy chiến xa thấy không phải là vua Y-sơ-ra-ên thì dừng lại, không đuổi theo nữa.
33Bấy giờ, có một người tình cờ giương cung bắn trúng vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, nhằm ngay chỗ mối áo giáp đâu lại. A-háp nói với người đánh xe mình rằng: “Hãy quay cương lại, đem ta ra khỏi chiến trường vì ta bị thương nặng.”
34Thế trận hôm ấy trở nên ác liệt, nhưng vua Y-sơ-ra-ên vẫn đứng vịn trên xe mình, đối mặt với quân A-ram cho đến chiều tối. Vào lúc mặt trời lặn thì vua chết.
