Jacob’s Return to Bethel
1Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to ⚓Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, ⚓who appeared to you ⚓when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”
2And Jacob said to his ⚓household and to all who were with him, “Put away ⚓the foreign gods that are among you, ⚓purify yourselves, and change your garments.
3Then let us arise and go up to Bethel; and I will make an altar there to God, ⚓who answered me in the day of my distress ⚓and has been with me in the way which I have gone.”
4So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the ⚓earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under ⚓the terebinth tree which was by Shechem.
5And they journeyed, and ⚓the terror of God was upon the cities that were all around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.
6So Jacob came to ⚓Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.
7And he ⚓built an altar there and called the place El Bethel, because ⚓there God appeared to him when he fled from the face of his brother.
8Now ⚓Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the terebinth tree. So the name of it was called Allon Bachuth.
9Then ⚓God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Padan Aram, and ⚓blessed him.
10And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; ⚓your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, ⚓but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel.
11Also God said to him: ⚓“I am God Almighty. ⚓Be fruitful and multiply; ⚓a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.
12The ⚓land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land.”
13Then God ⚓went up from him in the place where He talked with him.
14So Jacob ⚓set up a pillar in the place where He talked with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured a drink offering on it, and he poured oil on it.
15And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, ⚓Bethel.
Death of Rachel
16Then they journeyed from Bethel. And when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel labored in childbirth, and she had hard labor.
17Now it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, “Do not fear; ⚓you will have this son also.”
18And so it was, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Benjamin.
19So ⚓Rachel died and was buried on the way to ⚓Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).
20And Jacob set a pillar on her grave, which is the pillar of Rachel’s grave ⚓to this day.
21Then Israel journeyed and pitched his tent beyond ⚓the tower of Eder.
22And it happened, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and ⚓lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine; and Israel heard about it.
Jacob’s Twelve Sons
Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
23the sons of Leah were⚓Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun;
24the sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin;
25the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s maidservant, were Dan and Naphtali;
26and the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s maidservant, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Padan Aram.
Death of Isaac
27Then Jacob came to his father Isaac at ⚓Mamre, or ⚓Kirjath Arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had dwelt.
28Now the days of Isaac were one hundred and eighty years.
29So Isaac breathed his last and died, and ⚓was gathered to his people, being old and full of days. And ⚓his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

Chúa Tái Lập Giao Ước Với Gia-cốp
1Đức Chúa Trời bảo Gia-cốp: “Con hãy lên định cư tại Bê-tên, và lập một bàn thờ cho Đức Chúa Trời là Đấng đã hiện ra gặp con lúc con đang chạy trốn Ê-sau, anh con!”
2Gia-cốp thuật lại cho cả gia nhân quyến thuộc và căn dặn: “Hãy vứt bỏ hết các thần tượng, dọn mình cho thanh sạch và thay áo xống đi!
3Chúng ta hãy đứng dậy, lên Bê-tên; tôi sẽ lập một bàn thờ cho Đức Chúa Trời là Đấng nhận lời tôi trong ngày hoạn nạn và ở cùng tôi trong các chặng đường đời.”
4Họ liền nộp cho Gia-cốp các thần tượng đang cất giấu và các đôi bông tai họ đang đeo. Gia-cốp đem chôn hết dưới gốc cây sồi tại Si-chem.
5Gia đình Gia-cốp nhổ trại ra đi. Đức Chúa Trời làm cho dân các thành chung quanh khiếp sợ, không dám đuổi theo các con trai Gia-cốp.
6Gia-cốp và cả gia đình đến Bê-tên mà người Ca-na-an gọi là Lu-xơ.
7Gia-cốp xây một bàn thờ và đặt tên nơi đó là Ên-bê-tên vì Đức Chúa Trời đã xuất hiện gặp ông tại đây trong ngày ông chạy trốn anh mình.
8Đê-bô-ra, người vú của Rê-bê-ca qua đời và được an táng tại Bê-tên dưới gốc một cây sồi mang tên là A-long-ba-cúc.
9Đức Chúa Trời lại xuất hiện, gặp Gia-cốp lần thứ nhì sau khi ông lìa xứ Pha-đan A-ram và ban phước cho người.
10Ngài bảo: “Tên cũ của con là Gia-cốp, nhưng đừng dùng tên ấy nữa. Tên con sẽ là Y-sơ-ra-ên.” Và Ngài gọi ông là Y-sơ-ra-ên.
11Chúa dạy tiếp: “Ta là Đức Chúa Trời Toàn Năng. Con hãy sinh sôi nẩy nở, không những thành một dân tộc nhưng nhiều dân tộc. Dòng dõi con sẽ có nhiều vua chúa.
12Ta sẽ cho con và dòng dõi con vùng đất Ta đã cho Áp-ra-ham và Y-sác.”
13Rồi Đức Chúa Trời ngự lên khỏi nơi này.
14Gia-cốp liền dựng tại đó một cây trụ đá, dâng tế lễ và tưới dầu vào.
15Gia-cốp gọi địa điểm này, nơi ông nói chuyện với Đức Chúa Trời là Bê-tên.⚓
Ra-chên Sinh Bên-gia-min Và Qua Đời
16Gia-cốp cùng gia đình bỏ Bê-tên ra đi. Khi gần đến Ép-ra-ta, Ra-chên chuyển bụng nhưng khó sinh.
17Trong khi sinh khó khăn, Ra-chên nghe người nữ hộ sinh bảo: “Bà đừng sợ, vì bà sắp sinh một con trai nữa.”
18Nhưng Ra-chên đã hấp hối, bà đặt tên con là Bên-ô-ni⚓ Gia-cốp đặt tên con là Bên-gia-min.⚓
19Ra-chên qua đời và được an táng trên đường đến Ép-ra-ta, cũng gọi là Bết-lê-hem.⚓
20Gia-cốp dựng bia tại ngôi mộ Ra-chên, đến ngày nay vẫn còn.
21Y-sơ-ra-ên tiếp tục cuộc hành trình, đi quá tháp Ê-đa, thì cắm trại để nghỉ chân.
22Trong thời gian ở đó, Ru-bên vào ngủ với Bi-la, vợ hầu của cha mình. Có người báo cáo cho Gia-cốp.
23Đây là tên mười hai con trai của Gia-cốp:
Các con của Lê-a:
Ru-bên, trưởng nam,
Si-mê-ôn, Lê-vi, Giu-đa, Y-sa-ca và Sa-bu-luân.
24Các con của Ra-chên:
Giô-sép và Bên-gia-min.
25Các con của Bi-la, cô hầu của Ra-chên:
Đan và Nép-ta-li.
26Các con của Xinh-ba, cô hầu của Lê-a:
Gát và A-se.
Tất cả mười hai con trai đều sinh tại xứ Pha-đan A-ram.
27Rốt cuộc, Gia-cốp về đến nhà cha tại Mam-rê, thành Ki-ri-át Ạc-ta, nay là Hếp-rôn, cũng là nơi ngụ của Áp-ra-ham và Y-sác ngày trước.
28Y-sác hưởng thọ một trăm tám mươi tuổi rồi qua đời.
29Ông sống trọn đời đến già và được hai con trai là Ê-sau và Gia-cốp an táng.
