Jacob’s Return to Bethel
1Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to ⚓Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, ⚓who appeared to you ⚓when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”
2And Jacob said to his ⚓household and to all who were with him, “Put away ⚓the foreign gods that are among you, ⚓purify yourselves, and change your garments.
3Then let us arise and go up to Bethel; and I will make an altar there to God, ⚓who answered me in the day of my distress ⚓and has been with me in the way which I have gone.”
4So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the ⚓earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under ⚓the terebinth tree which was by Shechem.
5And they journeyed, and ⚓the terror of God was upon the cities that were all around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.
6So Jacob came to ⚓Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.
7And he ⚓built an altar there and called the place El Bethel, because ⚓there God appeared to him when he fled from the face of his brother.
8Now ⚓Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the terebinth tree. So the name of it was called Allon Bachuth.
9Then ⚓God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Padan Aram, and ⚓blessed him.
10And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; ⚓your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, ⚓but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel.
11Also God said to him: ⚓“I am God Almighty. ⚓Be fruitful and multiply; ⚓a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.
12The ⚓land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land.”
13Then God ⚓went up from him in the place where He talked with him.
14So Jacob ⚓set up a pillar in the place where He talked with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured a drink offering on it, and he poured oil on it.
15And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, ⚓Bethel.
Death of Rachel
16Then they journeyed from Bethel. And when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel labored in childbirth, and she had hard labor.
17Now it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, “Do not fear; ⚓you will have this son also.”
18And so it was, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Benjamin.
19So ⚓Rachel died and was buried on the way to ⚓Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).
20And Jacob set a pillar on her grave, which is the pillar of Rachel’s grave ⚓to this day.
21Then Israel journeyed and pitched his tent beyond ⚓the tower of Eder.
22And it happened, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and ⚓lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine; and Israel heard about it.
Jacob’s Twelve Sons
Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
23the sons of Leah were⚓Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun;
24the sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin;
25the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s maidservant, were Dan and Naphtali;
26and the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s maidservant, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Padan Aram.
Death of Isaac
27Then Jacob came to his father Isaac at ⚓Mamre, or ⚓Kirjath Arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had dwelt.
28Now the days of Isaac were one hundred and eighty years.
29So Isaac breathed his last and died, and ⚓was gathered to his people, being old and full of days. And ⚓his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

上帝在伯特利赐福雅各
1上帝对雅各说：“起来！上伯特利去，住在那里。在那里筑一座坛给上帝，就是你逃避你哥哥以扫的时候向你显现的上帝。”
2雅各就对他家中的人，以及所有和他一起的人说：“除掉你们中间外邦的神明，要自洁，更换衣服。
3我们要起来，上伯特利去，在那里我要筑一座坛给上帝，就是在我遭难的日子应允我，在我行走的路上与我同在的上帝。”
4他们就把手中所有外邦的神明和自己耳朵上的环子交给雅各；雅各把它们埋在示剑那里的橡树下。
5他们起行。上帝使周围城镇的人都惊恐，就不追赶雅各的儿子们了。
6于是雅各和所有与他一起的人到了迦南地的路斯，就是伯特利。
7他在那里筑了一座坛，给那地方起名叫伊勒．伯特利⚓，因为他逃避他哥哥的时候，上帝曾在那里向他显现。
8利百加的奶妈底波拉死了，葬在伯特利下边的橡树下；那棵树名叫亚伦．巴古。
9雅各从巴旦．亚兰回来，上帝又向他显现，赐福给他。
10上帝对他说：“你的名原是雅各，从今以后不要再叫雅各，你的名要叫以色列。”于是，上帝就叫他的名为以色列。
11上帝又对他说：“我是全能的上帝；你要生养众多，将来有一国和许多的国从你而来，又有许多君王从你生出⚓。
12至于我赐给亚伯拉罕和以撒的地，我必赐给你；我必赐这地给你的后裔。”
13上帝就从与雅各说话的那地方升上去了。
14雅各就在上帝与他说话的地方立了一根柱子，就是石柱，在它上面献浇酒祭，又浇油。
15雅各就给上帝与他说话的那地方起名叫伯特利。
拉结去世
16他们从伯特利起行，到以法他还有一段路程，拉结生产，生得十分艰难。
17她生得十分艰难的时候，接生婆对她说：“不要怕，你又要有一个儿子了。”
18她快要死，还有一口气的时候，就给她儿子起名叫便．俄尼⚓；他父亲却给他起名叫便雅悯⚓。
19拉结死了，葬在往以法他的路旁；以法他就是伯利恒。
20雅各在她的坟上立了一块碑，就是拉结的墓碑，到今日还在。
21以色列起行，在以得台的那一边支搭帐棚。
雅各的儿子们
（代上2．1－2）
22以色列住在那地的时候，吕便去与他父亲的妾辟拉同寝，以色列也听见了这件事⚓。
雅各共有十二个儿子。
23利亚的儿子是雅各的长子吕便，还有西缅、利未、犹大、以萨迦、西布伦。
24拉结的儿子是约瑟、便雅悯。
25拉结的婢女辟拉的儿子是但、拿弗他利。
26利亚的婢女悉帕的儿子是迦得、亚设。这是雅各在巴旦．亚兰所生的儿子。
以撒的死
27雅各来到他父亲以撒那里，到了幔利，基列．亚巴，就是希伯仑，是亚伯拉罕和以撒寄居的地方。
28以撒共活了一百八十年。
29以撒年纪老迈，安享天年，息劳而终，归到他祖先⚓那里。他两个儿子以扫和雅各把他安葬了。
