nước Sê-ba
1Khi nữ hoàng nước Sê-ba nghe danh tiếng vua Sô-lô-môn thì bà đi đến Giê-ru-sa-lem để thử vua bằng nhiều câu đố. Bà có một đoàn tùy tùng rất đông mang theo lạc đà chở thuốc thơm, ngọc quí và rất nhiều vàng. Khi đến gặp Sô-lô-môn thì bà nói cho vua biết những điều bà nghĩ trong trí.
2Vua Sô-lô-môn trả lời mọi câu hỏi của bà. Không có câu nào quá khó mà vua không trả lời được.
3Nữ hoàng Sê-ba thấy vua Sô-lô-môn vô cùng khôn ngoan. Bà thấy cung điện mà vua đã xây,
4thức ăn trên bàn, các viên chức, tôi tớ trong cung điện và quần áo tốt đẹp họ mặc, các đầy tớ hầu rượu cho vua cùng y phục đẹp đẽ mà họ mặc. Bà cũng thấy của lễ toàn thiêu dâng trong đền thờ CHÚA. Tất cả đều khiến bà vô cùng sửng sốt.
5Bà bảo vua Sô-lô-môn, “Những điều trước đây tôi nghe trong xứ tôi về những kỳ công và sự thông thái của vua đều đúng.
6Lúc ấy tôi chưa tin nhưng nay tôi đã đến và thấy tận mắt mọi điều thì hóa ra người ta chưa thuật tới phân nửa sự khôn ngoan của vua! Vua thật còn oai nghi hơn điều tôi nghe.
7Các người hầu việc⚓ và các viên chức vua thật may mắn vì họ được nghe lời thông thái của vua.
8Đáng chúc tụng CHÚA là Thượng Đế vua đã vui thích lập vua làm vua. Ngài đặt vua trên ngôi Ngài để trị vì thay cho CHÚA là Thượng Đế vua vì Ngài yêu mến dân Ít-ra-en và giúp đỡ họ đời đời. Ngài đã lập vua làm vua trên họ để duy trì công lý và cai trị công minh.”
9Rồi bà biếu vua hơn bốn tấn⚓ vàng và vô số hương liệu cùng ngọc quí. Chưa hề có ai biếu hương liệu thuộc loại mà nữ hoàng Sê-ba biếu vua Sô-lô-môn.
10Những người của Hi-ram và của Sô-lô-môn mang vàng từ Ô-phia, gỗ bá hương⚓ và ngọc quí.
11Vua Sô-lô-môn dùng gỗ bá hương xây các bậc thang cho đền thờ CHÚA cùng cung điện mình. Ông cũng dùng gỗ đó đóng các đờn sắt và đờn cầm cho các nhạc sĩ. Từ xưa đến nay trong Giu-đa chưa ai thấy những đồ tuyệt đẹp như vậy.
12Vua Sô-lô-môn biếu nữ hoàng Sê-ba những gì bà muốn và xin, nhiều hơn số quà bà biếu vua nữa. Rồi bà và các đầy tớ trở về xứ.
Sự giàu có của Sô-lô-môn
13Mỗi năm vua Sô-lô-môn nhận khoảng hai mươi ba tấn⚓ vàng.
14Ngoài ra, vua cũng nhận vàng từ các lái buôn và thương gia. Tất cả các vua Á-rập và các tổng trấn của xứ cũng mang vàng bạc đến.
15Vua Sô-lô-môn làm 200 cái thuẫn lớn bằng vàng giát, mỗi cái chứa khoảng 15 cân⚓ vàng giát.
16Vua cũng làm 300 cái thuẫn nhỏ hơn bằng vàng giát, mỗi cái chứa khoảng bảy cân rưỡi⚓ vàng. Vua đặt các khiên ấy nơi Cung trong Rừng Li-băng⚓.
17Vua làm một cái ngai lớn bằng ngà và bọc vàng.
18Ngai có sáu nấc thang đi lên và một bệ chân vàng. Hai bên ngai có chỗ dựa tay, và mỗi cái tựa tay có một con sư tử bên cạnh.
19Mười hai con sư tử đứng trên mười sáu bậc thang, đầu mỗi bậc thang có một con sư tử. Chưa hề có ngai nào làm giống như vậy cho bất cứ vương quốc nào.
20Tất cả chén bát vua Sô-lô-môn dùng cũng như các dĩa⚓ dùng ở Cung trong Rừng Li-băng đều làm bằng vàng. Trong thời Sô-lô-môn người ta xem thường bạc.
21Vua Sô-lô-môn có nhiều tàu bè được phái đi kinh doanh cùng với thủy thủ của vua Hi-ram. Mỗi ba năm các tàu đó trở về mang theo vàng, bạc, ngà voi, khỉ và con công.
22Vua Sô-lô-môn giàu có và khôn ngoan hơn tất cả các vua khác trên đất.
23Tất cả các vua trên đất đều mong gặp Sô-lô-môn và nghe những lời khôn ngoan mà Thượng Đế ban cho ông.
24Năm nầy sang năm khác ai đến đều mang các quà bằng bạc và vàng, quần áo, vũ khí, hương liệu, ngựa và la.
25Sô-lô-môn có bốn ngàn chuồng giữ ngựa và quân xa, ông có mười hai ngàn ngựa. Ông giữ một số trong các thành phố dành riêng cho quân xa còn số ngựa khác ông giữ với mình ở Giê-ru-sa-lem.
26Sô-lô-môn trị vì trên tất cả các nước từ sông Ơ-phơ-rát cho đến xứ Phi-li-tin, chạy dài đến tận biên giới Ai-cập.
27Ở Giê-ru-sa-lem vua khiến bạc trở thành tầm thường như sỏi đá, và cây hương nam nhiều như cây vả mọc nơi đồng bằng vậy.
28Sô-lô-môn nhập cảng ngựa từ Ai-cập và tất cả các quốc gia khác.
Sô-lô-môn qua đời
29Mọi việc khác Sô-lô-môn làm, từ đầu đến cuối đều được ghi chép trong sử ký của Na-than, nhà tiên tri, và trong sách tiên tri của A-hi-gia người Si-lôn, và trong sách viễn tượng của Y-đô, người tiên kiến. Y-đô cũng ghi chép về Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai Nê-bát.
30Sô-lô-môn trị vì Ít-ra-en ở Giê-ru-sa-lem bốn mươi năm.
31Rồi Sô-lô-môn qua đời⚓ và được chôn ở Giê-ru-sa-lem, thành của Đa-vít, cha mình. Rô-bô-am, con trai ông lên nối ngôi.

The Queen of Sheba’s Praise of Solomon
1Now ⚓when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to Jerusalem to test Solomon with hard questions, having a very great retinue, camels that bore spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones; and when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about all that was in her heart.
2So Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing so difficult for Solomon that he could not explain it to her.
3And when the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built,
4the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his ⚓cupbearers and their apparel, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of the Lord, there was no more spirit in her.
5Then she said to the king: “It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom.
6However I did not believe their words until I came and saw with my own eyes; and indeed the half of the greatness of your wisdom was not told me. You exceed the fame of which I heard.
7Happy are your men and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom!
8Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, setting you on His throne to be king for the Lord your God! Because your God has ⚓loved Israel, to establish them forever, therefore He made you king over them, to do justice and righteousness.”
9And she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, spices in great abundance, and precious stones; there never were any spices such as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.
10Also, the servants of Hiram and the servants of Solomon, ⚓who brought gold from Ophir, brought algum wood and precious stones.
11And the king made walkways of the algum wood for the house of the Lord and for the king’s house, also harps and stringed instruments for singers; and there were none such as these seen before in the land of Judah.
12Now King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all she desired, whatever she asked, much more than she had brought to the king. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.
Solomon’s Great Wealth
13⚓The weight of gold that came to Solomon yearly was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold,
14besides what the traveling merchants and traders brought. And all the kings of Arabia and governors of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon.
15And King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels of hammered gold went into each shield.
16He also made three hundred shields of hammered gold; three hundred shekels of gold went into each shield. The king put them in the ⚓House of the Forest of Lebanon.
17Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold.
18The throne had six steps, with a footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne; there were armrests on either side of the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the armrests.
19Twelve lions stood there, one on each side of the six steps; nothing like this had been made for any other kingdom.
20All King Solomon’s drinking vessels were gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Not one was silver, for this was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon.
21For the king’s ships went to ⚓Tarshish with the servants of Hiram. Once every three years the merchant ships came, bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and monkeys.
22So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.
23And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.
24Each man brought his present: articles of silver and gold, garments, ⚓armor, spices, horses, and mules, at a set rate year by year.
25Solomon ⚓had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen whom he stationed in the chariot cities and with the king at Jerusalem.
26⚓So he reigned over all the kings ⚓from the River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt.
27⚓The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedar trees ⚓as abundant as the sycamores which are in the lowland.
28⚓And they brought horses to Solomon from Egypt and from all lands.
Death of Solomon
29⚓Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the book of Nathan the prophet, in the prophecy of ⚓Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of ⚓Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam the son of Nebat?
30⚓Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.
31Then Solomon rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.
