Manasseh Reigns in Judah

¹Manasseh ⚓was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hephzibah. ²And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, ⚓according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel. ³For he rebuilt the high places ⚓which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; he raised up altars for Baal, and made a wooden image, ⚓as Ahab king of Israel had done; and he ⚓worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. ⁴⚓He also built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, ⚓“In Jerusalem I will put My name.” ⁵And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the ⚓two courts of the house of the Lord. ⁶⚓Also he made his son pass through the fire, practiced ⚓soothsaying, used witchcraft, and consulted spiritists and mediums. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger. ⁷He even set a carved image of Asherah that he had made, in the house of which the Lord had said to David and to Solomon his son, ⚓“In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever; ⁸⚓and I will not make the feet of Israel wander anymore from the land which I gave their fathers—only if they are careful to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that My servant Moses commanded them.” ⁹But they paid no attention, and Manasseh ⚓seduced them to do more evil than the nations whom the Lord had destroyed before the children of Israel.
¹⁰And the Lord spoke ⚓by His servants the prophets, saying, ¹¹⚓“Because Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations (⚓he has acted more wickedly than all the ⚓Amorites who were before him, and ⚓has also made Judah sin with his idols), ¹²therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Behold, I am bringing such calamity upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, both ⚓his ears will tingle. ¹³And I will stretch over Jerusalem ⚓the measuring line of Samaria and the plummet of the house of Ahab; ⚓I will wipe Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down. ¹⁴So I will forsake the ⚓remnant of My inheritance and deliver them into the hand of their enemies; and they shall become victims of plunder to all their enemies, ¹⁵because they have done evil in My sight, and have provoked Me to anger since the day their fathers came out of Egypt, even to this day.’ ”
¹⁶⚓Moreover Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides his sin by which he made Judah sin, in doing evil in the sight of the Lord.
¹⁷Now ⚓the rest of the acts of ⚓Manasseh—all that he did, and the sin that he committed—are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ¹⁸So ⚓Manasseh rested with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza. Then his son Amon reigned in his place.

Amon’s Reign and Death

¹⁹⚓Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. ²⁰And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, ⚓as his father Manasseh had done. ²¹So he walked in all the ways that his father had walked; and he served the idols that his father had served, and worshiped them. ²²He ⚓forsook the Lord God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the Lord.
²³⚓Then the servants of Amon ⚓conspired against him, and killed the king in his own house. ²⁴But the people of the land ⚓executed all those who had conspired against King Amon. Then the people of the land made his son Josiah king in his place.
²⁵Now the rest of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ²⁶And he was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza. Then Josiah his son reigned in his place.

Ma-na-se Trị Vì Giu-đa

¹Ma-na-se được mười hai tuổi khi lên ngôi làm vua. Vua trị vì năm mươi lăm năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Thân mẫu vua là bà Hép-si-ba. ²Vua làm điều tội lỗi trước mặt CHÚA, theo những cách gớm ghiếc của các dân mà Chúa đã đuổi đi trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên. ³Vì vua cho xây lại các tế đàn trên những nơi cao mà Ê-xê-chia đã phá hủy. Vua cho dựng tượng thần Ba-anh, làm một trụ thờ nữ thần A-sê-ra, giống như vua A-háp của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã làm. Vua thờ lạy tất cả các thần linh trên không trung và phụng thờ chúng. ⁴Vua xây thêm nhiều bàn thờ trong đền thờ CHÚA, là nơi Chúa đã phán rằng: “Tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, Ta sẽ đặt danh Ta ở đó.” ⁵Vua xây cất bàn thờ cho các thần linh trên không trung trong hai sân của đền thờ CHÚA. ⁶Vua thiêu dâng con trai mình trong lửa. Vua thực hành phép phù thủy và bói khoa. Vua cậy vào đồng bóng và thầy bói. Vua làm nhiều điều tội lỗi trước mặt CHÚA, chọc giận Ngài.
⁷Vua tạc tượng nữ thần A-sê-ra rồi đem để trong đền thờ, là nơi CHÚA đã bảo Đa-vít và con trai người là Sa-lô-môn rằng: “Trong đền thờ nầy và trong Giê-ru-sa-lem là nơi Ta đã chọn trong các chi tộc Y-sơ-ra-ên để đặt danh Ta ngự đời đời. ⁸Nếu họ cẩn thận làm theo tất cả những gì Ta đã truyền cho họ, và vâng theo tất cả Kinh Luật mà Môi-se, tôi tớ Ta, đã truyền cho họ, thì Ta sẽ không để cho chân của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên phải lang thang ra khỏi xứ mà Ta đã ban cho tổ phụ họ nữa đâu.” ⁹Nhưng họ không chịu nghe. Ma-na-se đã dẫn dắt họ đi sai lạc, khiến họ phạm nhiều tội lỗi hơn tất cả các nước mà CHÚA đã hủy diệt trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.
¹⁰Chúa đã dùng các tôi tớ Ngài là các tiên tri phán dạy họ: ¹¹“Bởi vì vua Ma-na-se đã làm những việc gớm ghiếc nầy, vua đã làm những việc gian tà hơn tất cả người A-mô-rít đã làm trước vua, vua đã gây cho Y-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội thờ các hình tượng của vua làm ra. ¹²Vậy nên, CHÚA là Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên phán như vầy: ‘Ta sẽ giáng những tai vạ xuống trên Giê-ru-sa-lem và Giu-đa đến nỗi ai nghe đến sẽ lùng bùng lỗ tai. ¹³Ta sẽ giăng trên Giê-ru-sa-lem thước dây đã đo Sa-ma-ri, và sẽ dùng dây dọi đã áp dụng cho nhà A-háp. Ta sẽ chùi sạch Giê-ru-sa-lem như người ta chùi một cái dĩa, chùi sạch nó rồi úp nó xuống. ¹⁴Ta sẽ vứt bỏ những gì còn sót lại của di sản Ta, mà phó chúng vào tay những kẻ thù của chúng. Chúng sẽ trở thành một miếng mồi, một chiến lợi phẩm cho những kẻ thù của chúng. ¹⁵Bởi vì chúng đã làm những việc tội lỗi trước mặt Ta, chọc cho Ta giận, kể từ khi tổ tiên chúng ra khỏi Ai-cập và mãi cho đến ngày nay.’ ”
¹⁶Ngoài ra, Ma-na-se còn làm đổ máu nhiều người vô tội, cho đến khi vua làm ngập Giê-ru-sa-lem với máu vô tội từ đầu nầy đến đầu kia, ngoài những tội vua đã làm để gây cho Giu-đa phạm tội, khiến cho họ làm những điều tội lỗi trước mặt CHÚA.
¹⁷Những việc khác của Ma-na-se, tất cả những việc vua làm, những tội lỗi vua phạm, há không được chép trong sách Sử Ký của Các Vua Giu-đa sao? ¹⁸Ma-na-se an giấc cùng các tổ phụ mình và được chôn trong vườn ngự uyển ở hoàng cung, tức trong vườn U-xa. A-môn, con trai vua, lên ngôi kế vị.

A-môn Trị Vì Giu-đa

¹⁹A-môn được hai mươi hai tuổi khi lên ngôi làm vua. Vua trị vì được hai năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Thân mẫu vua là bà Mê-su-lê-mết, con gái của Ha-rút, cháu của Giô-ba. ²⁰Vua làm điều tội lỗi trước mặt CHÚA như Ma-na-se, cha vua, đã làm. ²¹Vua đi theo mọi đường lối mà cha vua đã đi, phục vụ các thần tượng mà cha vua đã phục vụ và vua thờ phượng chúng. ²²Vua lìa bỏ CHÚA là Đức Chúa Trời của tổ tiên vua, và không đi theo các đường lối Chúa.
²³Các tôi tớ của A-môn lập mưu phản nghịch vua, và hạ sát vua ngay trong cung điện. ²⁴Nhưng dân trong xứ xử tử tất cả những người đã lập mưu và giết vua A-môn. Rồi dân trong xứ lập Giô-si-a, con trai vua, lên ngôi kế vị.
²⁵Tất cả những việc khác của vua A-môn làm, há chẳng được chép trong sách Sử Ký của Các Vua Giu-đa sao? ²⁶Vua được chôn trong mộ của mình, trong vườn U-xa. Rồi Giô-si-a, con trai vua, lên ngôi kế vị.
