Promises to Abram
1Now the ⚓Lord had said to Abram:
“Get ⚓out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
2⚓I will make you a great nation;
⚓I will bless you
And make your name great;
⚓And you shall be a blessing.
3⚓I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in ⚓you all the families of the earth shall be ⚓blessed.”
4So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
5Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and ⚓the people whom they had acquired in ⚓Haran, and they ⚓departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.
6Abram ⚓passed through the land to the place of Shechem, ⚓as far as the terebinth tree of Moreh. ⚓And the Canaanites were then in the land.
7⚓Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, ⚓“To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an ⚓altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
8And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and ⚓called on the name of the Lord.
9So Abram journeyed, ⚓going on still toward the South.
Abram in Egypt
10Now there was ⚓a famine in the land, and Abram ⚓went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine was⚓severe in the land.
11And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Indeed I know that you are⚓a woman of beautiful countenance.
12Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they ⚓will kill me, but they will let you live.
13⚓Please say you are my ⚓sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you.”
14So it was, when Abram came into Egypt, that the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very beautiful.
15The princes of Pharaoh also saw her and commended her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s house.
16He ⚓treated Abram well for her sake. He ⚓had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and female servants, female donkeys, and camels.
17But the Lord⚓plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.
18And Pharaoh called Abram and said, ⚓“What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?
19Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’? I might have taken her as my wife. Now therefore, here is your wife; take her and go your way.”
20⚓So Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they sent him away, with his wife and all that he had.

Áp-ram Được Chúa Chọn
1CHÚA bảo Áp-ram: “Con hãy rời bỏ quê hương, dân con và nhà cha con để đi đến xứ Ta sẽ chỉ cho.
2Ta sẽ làm cho con thành một nước lớn.
Ta sẽ ban phước lành cho con
Và làm nổi danh con
Và con sẽ thành một nguồn phước.
3Ta sẽ ban phước lành cho ai chúc phước con
Và rủa sả kẻ nào nguyền rủa con;
Tất cả các dân tộc trên thế giới
Sẽ nhờ con mà được phước.”
Áp-ram Di Cư Qua Ca-na-an
4Áp-ram ra đi đúng theo lời CHÚA truyền bảo. Lót cùng đi với ông. Áp-ram được bảy mươi lăm tuổi khi ông rời bỏ Cha-ran.
5Áp-ram đem Sa-rai vợ mình, Lót, cháu mình, tất cả tài sản ông tạo được và các tôi tớ ông đã có được ở Cha-ran ra đi, và đến xứ Ca-na-an.
6Áp-ram đi qua trong xứ đến tận thành Si-chem, tại cây sồi của Mô-rê. Dân Ca-na-an đang ở tại đó.
7CHÚA hiện ra, nói với Áp-ram: “Ta sẽ ban cho dòng giống con đất nước này!” Tại đây Áp-ram lập một bàn thờ CHÚA, Đấng đã hiện ra với ông.
8Từ đó, Áp-ram đến vùng đồi núi ở phía đông Bê-tên và hạ trại ở đó. Ông lập một bàn thờ tại đó, Bê-tên ở phía tây và A-hi ở phía đông và ông cầu khẩn danh CHÚA.
9Áp-ram tiếp tục di chuyển, tiến xuống phía nam.
10Xứ này bị nạn đói, Áp-ram xuống Ai-cập kiều ngụ vì nạn đói rất trầm trọng.
11Khi sắp vào Ai-cập, Áp-ram nói với Sa-rai, vợ mình: “Anh biết em là người đàn bà đẹp.
12Khi người Ai-cập thấy em, họ sẽ nói đấy là vợ nó; rồi họ sẽ giết anh và để em sống.
13Xin em hãy nói em là em gái anh để vì cớ em mà họ đối xử tốt với anh và để anh khỏi mất mạng vì em.”
14Áp-ram vào Ai-cập, dân Ai-cập thấy người đàn bà này rất đẹp.
15Các quan lớn trong triều đình của Pha-ra-ôn cũng thấy Sa-rai và ca tụng trước Pha-ra-ôn, nên nàng bị đem vào cung Pha-ra-ôn.
16Vì Sa-rai, vua biệt đãi Áp-ram, ban thưởng nhiều chiên, bò, lừa⚓ lạc đà và cả nô lệ nam nữ nữa.
17Nhưng vì cớ Sa-rai, vợ Áp-ram, CHÚA trừng phạt Pha-ra-ôn và hoàng tộc Ai-cập làm cho họ bị bịnh dịch trầm trọng.
18Pha-ra-ôn cho gọi Áp-ram vào và nói: “Nhà ngươi làm gì cho ta vậy? Sao không nói cho ta biết rằng Sa-rai là vợ ngươi?
19Sao lại bảo nàng là em gái ngươi để ta đã lấy nàng làm vợ? Vậy bây giờ vợ ngươi đây, hãy dẫn nàng đi đi!”
20Vua sai quần thần đưa Áp-ram, vợ người và tất cả tài sản đi.
