Abraham’s Faith Confirmed

¹Now it came to pass after these things that ⚓God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”
And he said, “Here I am.”
²Then He said, “Take now your son, ⚓your only son Isaac, whom you ⚓love, and go ⚓to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a ⚓burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
³So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. ⁴Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. ⁵And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will ⚓come back to you.”
⁶So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and ⚓laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. ⁷But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!”
And he said, “Here I am, my son.”
Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
⁸And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the ⚓lamb for a ⚓burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.
⁹Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and ⚓laid him on the altar, upon the wood. ¹⁰And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
¹¹But the ⚓Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”
So he said, “Here I am.”
¹²And He said, ⚓“Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for ⚓now I know that you fear God, since you have not ⚓withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
¹³Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. ¹⁴And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
¹⁵Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, ¹⁶and said: ⚓“By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— ¹⁷blessing I will ⚓bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants ⚓as the stars of the heaven ⚓and as the sand which is on the seashore; and ⚓your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. ¹⁸⚓In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, ⚓because you have obeyed My voice.” ¹⁹So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose and went together to ⚓Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.

The Family of Nahor

²⁰Now it came to pass after these things that it was told Abraham, saying, “Indeed ⚓Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor: ²¹⚓Huz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father ⚓of Aram, ²²Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel.” ²³And ⚓Bethuel begot Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother. ²⁴His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Thahash, and Maachah.

Đức Chúa Trời thử nghiệm đức tin của Áp-ra-ham

¹Sau các việc đó, Đức Chúa Trời thử nghiệm Áp-ra-ham. Ngài gọi ông: “Áp-ra-ham!” Ông thưa: “Dạ, có con đây.”⚓ ²Đức Chúa Trời phán: “Hãy dẫn con trai của con, đứa con một mà con yêu dấu, là Y-sác, đi đến đất Mô-ri-a. Tại đó, con hãy dâng đứa trẻ làm tế lễ thiêu trên một trong những ngọn núi mà Ta sẽ chỉ cho con.”⚓
³Vậy Áp-ra-ham dậy sớm, thắng lừa và đem hai đầy tớ cùng con mình là Y-sác đi theo. Ông cũng chặt củi để dùng cho tế lễ thiêu rồi lên đường đi đến nơi mà Đức Chúa Trời đã chỉ dẫn.
⁴Đến ngày thứ ba, Áp-ra-ham ngước mắt lên và thấy địa điểm đó từ đằng xa. ⁵Ông nói với hai đầy tớ: “Các ngươi ở lại đây với con lừa, ta và đứa trẻ sẽ đi đến chỗ kia để thờ phượng rồi sẽ trở lại.” ⁶Áp-ra-ham lấy củi dùng cho tế lễ thiêu chất trên Y-sác, con mình, còn ông cầm lửa và dao trong tay, rồi hai cha con cùng đi. ⁷Y-sác nói với Áp-ra-ham, cha mình: “Thưa cha!” Ông đáp: “Con ơi! Cha đây.” Y-sác hỏi: “Củi và lửa đã sẵn sàng, nhưng chiên con ở đâu để dâng tế lễ thiêu?” ⁸Áp-ra-ham nói: “Con ơi! Chính Đức Chúa Trời sẽ cung cấp chiên con cho tế lễ thiêu.” Rồi cả hai cha con cùng tiếp tục đi.
⁹Khi đã đến nơi Đức Chúa Trời chỉ định, Áp-ra-ham lập tại đó một bàn thờ, xếp củi lên rồi trói Y-sác con mình lại, đặt lên đống củi trên bàn thờ.⚓ ¹⁰Áp-ra-ham đưa tay ra cầm lấy dao để giết con mình. ¹¹Nhưng thiên sứ của Đức Giê-hô-va từ trời gọi ông: “Áp-ra-ham, Áp-ra-ham!” Ông thưa: “Có con đây.” ¹²Thiên sứ bảo: “Đừng ra tay hại đứa trẻ và cũng không được làm gì nó cả. Bây giờ, Ta biết rằng con thật lòng kính sợ Đức Chúa Trời vì con không tiếc con mình với Ta, dù là đứa con duy nhất của con.” ¹³Áp-ra-ham ngước mắt nhìn và thấy một con chiên đực, sừng mắc trong bụi cây. Áp-ra-ham bắt con chiên đực đó dâng làm tế lễ thiêu thay cho con trai mình. ¹⁴Áp-ra-ham gọi địa điểm đó là “Giê-hô-va Cung Ứng.”⚓ Vì vậy, ngày nay người ta còn nói: “Trên núi của Đức Giê-hô-va điều ấy sẽ được cung ứng”⚓
¹⁵Thiên sứ của Đức Giê-hô-va từ trời gọi Áp-ra-ham lần thứ nhì ¹⁶và bảo: “Đức Giê-hô-va phán: Vì con đã làm điều nầy, không tiếc con mình, dù là đứa con duy nhất của con, nên Ta lấy chính mình mà thề rằng,⚓ ¹⁷Ta sẽ ban phước dồi dào cho con, làm cho dòng dõi con đông như sao trời, nhiều như cát biển, và dòng dõi con sẽ chiếm được cổng thành quân địch.⚓ ¹⁸Tất cả các dân tộc trên thế giới đều sẽ nhờ dòng dõi con mà được phước, vì con đã vâng lời Ta.”⚓
¹⁹Áp-ra-ham trở lại chỗ hai người đầy tớ; họ đứng dậy và cùng nhau trở về Bê-e Sê-ba. Áp-ra-ham tiếp tục sống tại Bê-e Sê-ba.

Dòng dõi của Na-cô. – Rê-bê-ca ra đời

²⁰Sau các việc đó, người ta báo cho Áp-ra-ham: “Nầy, Minh-ca cũng sinh con cho em ông là Na-cô. ²¹Con trưởng là Út-xơ, các con thứ là Bu-xơ, Kê-mu-ên là cha của A-ram, ²²Kê-sết, Ha-xô, Phin-đát, Dít-láp và Bê-tu-ên.” ²³Bê-tu-ên là cha của Rê-bê-ca. Đó là tám người con trai mà Minh-ca sinh cho Na-cô, em của Áp-ra-ham. ²⁴Còn người vợ bé tên là Rê-u-ma cũng sinh Tê-ba, Ga-ham, Ta-hách và Ma-a-ca.
