Cain Murders Abel

¹Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the Lord.” ²Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now ⚓Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. ³And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit ⚓of the ground to the Lord. ⁴Abel also brought of ⚓the firstborn of his flock and of ⚓their fat. And the Lord respected ⚓Abel and his offering, ⁵but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.
⁶So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? ⁷If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
⁸Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and ⚓killed him.
⁹Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?”
He said, ⚓“I do not know. Am I ⚓my brother’s keeper?”
¹⁰And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood ⚓cries out to Me from the ground. ¹¹So now ⚓you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. ¹²When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.”
¹³And Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear! ¹⁴Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; ⚓I shall be ⚓hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that⚓anyone who finds me will kill me.”
¹⁵And the Lord said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him ⚓sevenfold.” And the Lord set a ⚓mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.

The Family of Cain

¹⁶Then Cain ⚓went out from the ⚓presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. ¹⁷And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Ē´noch. And he built a city, ⚓and called the name of the city after the name of his son—Ē´noch. ¹⁸To Ē´noch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech.
¹⁹Then Lamech took for himself ⚓two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. ²⁰And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. ²¹His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute. ²²And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
²³Then Lamech said to his wives:
“Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
Wives of Lamech, listen to my speech!
For I have killed a man for wounding me,
Even a young man for hurting me.
²⁴⚓If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold,
Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”

A New Son

²⁵And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and ⚓named him Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” ²⁶And as for Seth, ⚓to him also a son was born; and he named him Ē´nosh. Then men began ⚓to call on the name of the Lord.

Chuyện Ca-in và A-bên

¹A-đam ăn ở với Ê-va, vợ mình. Bà có thai, sinh Ca-in. Bà nói: "Nhờ Thượng Đế, tôi sinh được một người." ²Bà lại sinh A- bên, em Ca-in. Lớn lên, A-bên đi chăn chiên, còn Ca-in làm ruộng. ³Đến mùa, Ca- in lấy hoa quả đồng ruộng làm lễ vật dâng lên Chúa Hằng Hữu. ⁴A-bên cũng dâng phần thịt mỡ của chiên đầu lòng. Chúa Hằng Hữu nhận lễ vật của A-bên, ⁵nhưng từ chối lễ vật của Ca-in. Ca-in giận dữ thất vọng đến sạm mặt.⚓
⁶Chúa Hằng Hữu hỏi: "Tại sao con giận? Sao mặt con sạm lại?⚓ ⁷Nếu con làm điều tốt, lẽ nào không được chấp nhận? Nhưng khi làm điều xấu,⚓ hãy coi chừng, vì tội lỗi đang rình rập chờ đợi để hủy diệt con, nhưng con phải thắng nó."
⁸Ca-in rủ A-bên, em mình ra ngoài đồng. Khi hai anh em ra đó, Ca-in liền xông lại giết em mình.
⁹Chúa Hằng Hữu hỏi Ca-in: "A-bên, em con đâu?"
"Con không biết! Con đâu phải người trông nom nó!" Ca-in đáp.
¹⁰Thượng Đế phán: "Con đã làm gì? Tiếng kêu khóc của máu em con chan hòa dưới đất, đã thấu tai Ta; ¹¹Từ nay, con bị đuổi khỏi mảnh đất đã nhuộm máu em con. ¹²Dù con trồng trọt, đất cũng không sinh hoa lợi cho con nữa. Con chỉ là người chạy trốn, kẻ lang thang trên mặt đất."
¹³Ca-in thưa: "Hình phạt ấy nặng quá sức chịu đựng của con. ¹⁴Ngày nay Chúa đuổi con khỏi đồng ruộng này, con là kẻ chạy trốn, lang thang xa lánh mặt Chúa. Nếu có ai gặp con, họ sẽ giết con."
¹⁵Chúa Hằng Hữu đáp: "Ai giết con sẽ bị phạt bảy lần án phạt của con." Chúa Hằng Hữu đánh dấu trên người Ca-in, để ai gặp ông, sẽ không giết. ¹⁶Ca-in lánh mặt Chúa, đến sống tại xứ Nốt, về phía đông Ê-đen.

Dòng dõi Ca-in

¹⁷Ca-in ăn ở với vợ. Bà có thai sinh Hê- nóc. Ca-in xây một thành phố, gọi là Hê-nóc theo tên con.
¹⁸Hê-nóc sinh Y-rát; Y-rát sinh Mê-hu- gia-ên; Mê-hu-gia-ên sinh Mê-tu-sa-ên; Mê- tu-sa-ên sinh Lê-méc.
¹⁹Lê-méc lấy hai vợ: A-đa và Si-la. ²⁰A- đa sinh Gia-banh. Gia-banh là tổ phụ của dân⚓ ở lều, nuôi gia súc. ²¹Em Gia-banh là Giu-banh, tổ phụ của những người⚓ đánh thụ cầm, thổi sáo. ²²Còn Si-la sinh Tu- banh-ca-in, là người rèn các dụng cụ bằng đồng, bằng sắt. Em gái Tu-banh-ca-in là Na-a-ma.⚓
²³Một hôm, Lê-méc nói với A-đa và Si- la: "Này, vợ Lê-méc, hãy nghe! Ta đã giết một người, vì nó đánh ta bị thương và một thiếu niên vì nó làm ta đau đớn. ²⁴Ai giết Ca-in sẽ bị phạt bảy lần, còn ai giết ta, sẽ bị báo thù gấp bảy mươi bảy lần."

Sết ra đời

²⁵Sau đó, A-đam và Ê-va còn sinh một con trai nữa, đặt tên là Sết. Ê-va nói: "Thượng Đế cho tôi một con trai khác thay cho A-bên mà Ca-in đã giết." ²⁶Sết cũng sinh con trai, đặt tên là Ê-nót. Từ đời Ê-nót, người ta bắt đầu cầu nguyện với Chúa Hằng Hữu.
