Cain Murders Abel

¹Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the Lord.” ²Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now ⚓Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. ³And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit ⚓of the ground to the Lord. ⁴Abel also brought of ⚓the firstborn of his flock and of ⚓their fat. And the Lord respected ⚓Abel and his offering, ⁵but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.
⁶So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? ⁷If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
⁸Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and ⚓killed him.
⁹Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?”
He said, ⚓“I do not know. Am I ⚓my brother’s keeper?”
¹⁰And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood ⚓cries out to Me from the ground. ¹¹So now ⚓you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. ¹²When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.”
¹³And Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear! ¹⁴Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; ⚓I shall be ⚓hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that⚓anyone who finds me will kill me.”
¹⁵And the Lord said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him ⚓sevenfold.” And the Lord set a ⚓mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.

The Family of Cain

¹⁶Then Cain ⚓went out from the ⚓presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. ¹⁷And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Ē´noch. And he built a city, ⚓and called the name of the city after the name of his son—Ē´noch. ¹⁸To Ē´noch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech.
¹⁹Then Lamech took for himself ⚓two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. ²⁰And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. ²¹His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute. ²²And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
²³Then Lamech said to his wives:
“Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
Wives of Lamech, listen to my speech!
For I have killed a man for wounding me,
Even a young man for hurting me.
²⁴⚓If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold,
Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”

A New Son

²⁵And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and ⚓named him Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” ²⁶And as for Seth, ⚓to him also a son was born; and he named him Ē´nosh. Then men began ⚓to call on the name of the Lord.

该隐和亚伯

¹那人和他妻子夏娃同房，夏娃就怀孕，生了该隐⚓，她说：“我靠耶和华得了一个男的。” ²她又生了该隐的弟弟亚伯。亚伯是牧羊的；该隐是耕地的。 ³过了一些日子，该隐拿地里的出产为供物献给耶和华； ⁴亚伯也把他羊群中头生的和羊的脂肪献上。耶和华看中了亚伯和他的供物， ⁵却看不中该隐和他的供物。该隐就非常生气，沉下脸来。 ⁶耶和华对该隐说：“你为什么生气呢？你为什么沉下脸来呢？ ⁷你若做得对，岂不仰起头来吗？你若做得不对，罪就伏在门前。它想要控制你，你却要制伏它。”
⁸该隐与他弟弟亚伯说话。 ⚓二人正在田间时，该隐起来攻击他弟弟亚伯，把他杀了。 ⁹耶和华对该隐说：“你弟弟亚伯在哪里？”他说：“我不知道！我岂是看守我弟弟的吗？” ¹⁰耶和华说：“你做了什么事呢？你弟弟血的声音从地里向我哀号。 ¹¹现在你必从这地受诅咒，这地开了口，从你手里接受你弟弟的血。 ¹²你耕种土地，它不再给你效力；你必流离飘荡在地上。” ¹³该隐对耶和华说：“我的惩罚太重，过于我所能承当的。 ¹⁴看哪，今日你赶我离开这块土地，不能见你的面；我必流离飘荡在地上，凡遇见我的必杀我。” ¹⁵耶和华对他说：“既然如此，凡杀该隐的，必遭报七倍。”耶和华就给该隐立一个记号，免得人遇见他就杀他。 ¹⁶于是该隐离开了耶和华的面，去住在伊甸东边挪得⚓之地。

该隐的后代

¹⁷该隐与妻子同房，她就怀孕，生了以诺。该隐建造一座城，就照他儿子的名字称那城为以诺。 ¹⁸以诺生以拿，以拿生米户雅利，米户雅利生玛土撒利，玛土撒利生拉麦。 ¹⁹拉麦娶了两个妻子：一个名叫亚大，一个名叫洗拉。 ²⁰亚大生雅八；雅八是住帐棚、牧养牲畜之人的祖师。 ²¹雅八的兄弟名叫犹八；他是所有弹琴吹箫之人的祖师。 ²²洗拉又生了土八．该隐；他是打造各样铜器铁器的工匠。土八．该隐的妹妹是拿玛。 ²³拉麦对他两个妻子说：
亚大、洗拉啊，听我的声音；
拉麦的妻子啊，侧耳听我的言语：
大人伤我，我把他杀了；
小孩损我，我把他害了⚓。
²⁴若杀该隐，遭报七倍，
杀拉麦的，必遭报七十七倍。

塞特和以挪士

²⁵亚当又与妻子同房，她就生了一个儿子，给他起名叫塞特，说：“上帝给我立了另一个子嗣代替亚伯，因为该隐杀了他。” ²⁶塞特也生了一个儿子，起名叫以挪士。那时候，人开始求告耶和华的名。
