1And the people of the land took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and made him king in Jerusalem in place of his father.
Jehoahaz King of Judah
2Jehoahaz⚓ was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. 3The king of Egypt dethroned him in Jerusalem and imposed on Judah a levy of a hundred talents⚓ of silver and a talent⚓ of gold. 4The king of Egypt made Eliakim, a brother of Jehoahaz, king over Judah and Jerusalem and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim. But Necho took Eliakim’s brother Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt.

5Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God. 6Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked him and bound him with bronze shackles to take him to Babylon. 7Nebuchadnezzar also took to Babylon articles from the temple of the Lord and put them in his temple⚓ there. 8The other events of Jehoiakim’s reign, the detestable things he did and all that was found against him, are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. And Jehoiachin his son succeeded him as king.

9Jehoiachin was eighteen⚓ years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months and ten days. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 10In the spring, King Nebuchadnezzar sent for him and brought him to Babylon, together with articles of value from the temple of the Lord, and he made Jehoiachin’s uncle,⚓ Zedekiah, king over Judah and Jerusalem.

11Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. 12He did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke the word of the Lord. 13He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him take an oath in God’s name. He became stiff-necked and hardened his heart and would not turn to the Lord, the God of Israel. 14Furthermore, all the leaders of the priests and the people became more and more unfaithful, following all the detestable practices of the nations and defiling the temple of the Lord, which he had consecrated in Jerusalem.
The Fall of Jerusalem
15The Lord, the God of their ancestors, sent word to them through his messengers again and again, because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place. 16But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the Lord was aroused against his people and there was no remedy. 17He brought up against them the king of the Babylonians,⚓ who killed their young men with the sword in the sanctuary, and did not spare young men or young women, the elderly or the infirm. God gave them all into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar. 18He carried to Babylon all the articles from the temple of God, both large and small, and the treasures of the Lord’s temple and the treasures of the king and his officials. 19They set fire to God’s temple and broke down the wall of Jerusalem; they burned all the palaces and destroyed everything of value there. 20He carried into exile to Babylon the remnant, who escaped from the sword, and they became servants to him and his successors until the kingdom of Persia came to power. 21The land enjoyed its sabbath rests; all the time of its desolation it rested, until the seventy years were completed in fulfillment of the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah. 22In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing: 23“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: “ ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of his people among you may go up, and may the Lord their God be with them.’ ”

1Dân trong xứ tôn Giô-a-cha, con trai vua Giô-si-a lên làm vua kế vị vua cha tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. 2Vua Giô-a-cha được hai mươi ba tuổi khi lên ngôi; vua trị vì ba tháng tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. 3Bấy giờ vua Ai-cập truất ngôi vua Giô-a-cha ở Giê-ru-sa-lem và bắt nước Giu-đa triều cống 3.4 tấn bạc⚓ và 34kg vàng.⚓4Vua Ai-cập lập Ê-li-a-kim, anh vua Giô-a-cha lên làm vua Giu-đa tại Giê-ru-sa-lem và đổi tên người thành Giê-hô-gia-kim; vua Nê-cô cũng bắt vua Giô-a-cha đem về Ai-cập. 5Vua Giê-hô-gia-kim lên ngôi lúc hai mươi lăm tuổi; người trị vì tại Giê-ru-sa-lem mười một năm; người làm điều ác trước mắt CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời người. 6Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, vua Ba-by-lôn tấn công vua, bắt vua trói lại bằng xích đồng và dẫn về Ba-by-lôn. 7Vua Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa của Ba-by-lôn cũng lấy các vật dụng trong đền thờ CHÚA đem về để trong cung mình ở Ba-by-lôn. 8Những việc khác của vua Giê-hô-gia-kim, những việc ghê tởm người đã làm cùng những việc khác về người, kìa chúng đều được chép trong sách các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa. Giê-hô-gia-kin, con trai vua lên ngôi kế vị. 9Giê-hô-gia-kin lên ngôi làm vua khi được mười tám tuổi;⚓ vua trị vì tại Giê-ru-sa-lem ba tháng mười ngày; vua làm điều ác trước mắt CHÚA. 10Vào đầu năm sau, vua Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa sai người đến bắt, điệu vua về Ba-by-lôn cùng với những vật dụng quí giá trong đền thờ CHÚA. Vua cũng lập Sê-đê-kia, chú người lên làm vua Giu-đa tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. 11Vua Sê-đê-kia lên ngôi khi được hai mươi mốt tuổi; vua trị vì tại Giê-ru-sa-lem mười một năm. 12Vua làm điều ác trước mắt CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời mình và không khiêm nhường trước mặt tiên tri Giê-rê-mi, là người phán lời CHÚA. 13Vua cũng phản nghịch chống lại vua Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, người đã buộc vua nhân danh CHÚA tuyên thệ. Vua trở nên cứng cổ, lòng dạ chai đá, không chịu quay lại với CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên. 14Hơn thế nữa, những thầy tế lễ lãnh đạo và dân chúng ngày càng trở nên bất trung, làm mọi điều ghê tởm như các nước chung quanh; họ làm ô uế đền thờ CHÚA, là đền thờ Ngài đã để riêng ra thánh tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.
Giê-ru-sa-lem Sụp Đổ
15CHÚA, Đức Chúa trời của tổ phụ họ đã nhiều lần sai các sứ giả Ngài đến với chúng vì Ngài thương xót dân Ngài và nơi Ngài ngự. 16Nhưng chúng nhạo báng các sứ giả của Đức Chúa Trời, khinh thường lời Chúa, chế giễu các tiên tri của Ngài, vì thế cơn thịnh nộ của CHÚA nổi lên trừng phạt dân chúng, không còn phương cứu chữa. 17CHÚA cho vua Ba-by-lôn đến trừng phạt chúng; vua này dùng gươm giết những thanh niên trong nơi thánh; người không tha mạng thanh niên, thiếu nữ, người già, kẻ yếu ớt; Ngài trao tất cả chúng nó vào tay vua. 18Vua lấy tất cả vật dụng lớn nhỏ trong đền thờ Đức Chúa Trời, các kho báu của đền thờ CHÚA, các kho báu của vua và của các quan, đem hết về Ba-by-lôn. 19Quân Ba-by-lôn đốt đền thờ Đức Chúa Trời; phá hủy tường thành Giê-ru-sa-lem; thiêu đốt mọi cung điện và báu vật trong thành. 20Những kẻ sống sót thoát nạn gươm đao, thì bị vua bắt đem qua Ba-by-lôn làm nô lệ cho vua và cho con cháu vua cho đến thời vương quốc Ba-tư tể trị. 21Điều này xảy ra để ứng nghiệm lời CHÚA cậy tiên tri Giê-rê-mi phán rằng, xứ được hưởng bù những ngày Sa-bát, tức là trọn những ngày xứ sở bị hoang tàn, nó được nghỉ ngơi đến bảy mươi năm trọn. 22Vào năm thứ nhất dưới triều Si-ru, vua Ba-tư; lời CHÚA cậy tiên tri Giê-rê-mi phán được ứng nghiệm. CHÚA tác động tâm trí Si-ru, vua Ba-tư, để vua công bố trên toàn vương quốc và bằng sắc chỉ rằng: 23Vua Si-ru nước Ba-tư tuyên bố như vầy: “CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời trên trời đã ban cho ta mọi vương quốc dưới đất và Ngài lập ta để xây cho Ngài một đền thờ tại Giê-ru-sa-lem trong xứ Giu-đa. Vậy ai trong vòng các ngươi là dân của Ngài, nguyện xin CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời ngươi ở cùng ngươi, hãy tiến lên.”
