Nữ vương nước Sê-ba đến viếng Sa-lô-môn

¹ Khi nữ vương nước Sê-ba nghe đồn danh tiếng của Sa-lô-môn, bèn đi đến Giê-ru-sa-lem, lấy những câu đố mà thử người, bà có người hầu hạ theo rất đông, có những lạc đà chở thuốc thơm, rất nhiều vàng, và đá quí; bà đến cùng Sa-lô-môn, nói với người mọi điều có ở trong lòng mình.⚓ ² Sa-lô-môn đáp các câu hỏi của bà, chẳng câu nào ẩn bí quá cho Sa-lô-môn mà người không giải nghĩa nổi cho bà.
³ Khi nữ vương Sê-ba thấy sự khôn ngoan của Sa-lô-môn, cung điện người đã xây cất, ⁴ những món ăn trên bàn người, nhà cửa các tôi tớ, thứ tự công việc của các quan, và đồ mặc của họ, các quan chước tửu và áo xống của họ, cùng các của lễ thiêu người dâng trong đền Đức Giê-hô-va, thì mất vía, ⁵ bèn nói với vua rằng: Điều tôi nghe nói trong xứ tôi về các lời nói và sự khôn ngoan của vua, thì thật lắm. ⁶ Song trước khi tôi chưa đến đây và chưa thấy tận mắt những điều nầy, thì tôi chẳng tin lời họ; và kìa, người ta chẳng thuật cho tôi nghe đến phân nửa sự khôn ngoan lớn lao của vua; vua thật trổi hơn tiếng đồn tôi đã nghe. ⁷ Các quần thần của vua thật có phước thay! Các tôi tớ vua, hằng đứng chầu trước mặt vua, nghe được sự khôn ngoan của vua, thật có phước thay! ⁸ Đáng ngợi khen thay Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của vua, vì Ngài vui thích vua, đặt vua ngồi trên ngôi của Ngài đặng làm vua cho Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của vua! Bởi vì Đức Chúa Trời của vua yêu mến Y-sơ-ra-ên, đặng làm cho chúng vững bền đến đời đời, nên Ngài đã lập vua làm vua trên chúng, để làm theo sự ngay thẳng và sự công bình.
⁹ Đoạn, bà dâng cho vua một trăm hai mươi ta-lâng vàng, và rất nhiều thuốc thơm, cùng đá quí; chẳng hề có thuốc thơm nào giống như thuốc thơm của nữ vương nước Sê-ba dâng cho vua Sa-lô-môn. ¹⁰ (Các tôi tớ của Hu-ram và tôi tớ của Sa-lô-môn từ Ô-phia chở vàng đến, cũng có chở về gỗ bạch đàn hương và đá quí. ¹¹ Vua dùng gỗ bạch đàn hương ấy mà làm cái thang trong đền của Đức Giê-hô-va, và trong cung điện vua, cùng những đàn cầm đàn sắt cho con hát: Trước kia trong nước Giu-đa, người ta chẳng hề thấy có giống như vậy). ¹² Vua Sa-lô-môn tặng cho nữ vương nước Sê-ba mọi đồ bà ước ao và xin, gấp nhiều hơn đồ bà đã đem dâng cho vua. Đoạn, bà và các đầy tớ bà trở về xứ mình.

Sự giàu có của Sa-lô-môn

¹³ Vàng mà vua Sa-lô-môn nhận được mỗi năm cân đến sáu trăm bảy mươi ta-lâng, ¹⁴ không kể vàng mà các nhà buôn bán rong đem vào, cùng vàng và bạc mà các vua A-ra-bi và quan tổng trấn của xứ đem nộp cho Sa-lô-môn. ¹⁵ Sa-lô-môn làm hai trăm cái khiên lớn bằng vàng đánh dát, cứ mỗi cái dùng sáu trăm siếc-lơ vàng đánh dát, ¹⁶ và ba trăm cái khiên nhỏ bằng vàng đánh dát, cứ mỗi cái dùng ba trăm siếc-lơ vàng; đoạn vua để các khiên ấy nơi cung rừng Li-ban. ¹⁷ Vua cũng làm một cái ngai lớn bằng ngà, và bọc vàng ròng; ¹⁸ cái ngai có sáu nấc lên, và một cái bệ bằng vàng liền với cái ngai; cũng có thanh nâng tay bên này và bên kia của chỗ ngồi, gần thanh nâng tay có hai con sư tử. ¹⁹ Lại có mười hai con sư tử đứng trên sáu nấc, bên hữu và bên tả: Chẳng có nước nào làm ngai giống như vậy. ²⁰ Các đồ dùng để uống của vua Sa-lô-môn đều bằng vàng, và những khí dụng của cung rừng Li-ban cũng đều bằng vàng ròng: Trong đời Sa-lô-môn, chẳng kể bạc ra gì, ²¹ vì vua có đoàn tàu vượt sang Ta-rê-si với các tôi tớ của Hi-ram: Mỗi ba năm một lần, đoàn tàu Ta-rê-si chở đến vàng, bạc, ngà voi, con khỉ và con công.
²² Ấy vậy, vua Sa-lô-môn trổi hơn các vua trên đất về sự khôn ngoan. ²³ Các vua trên đất đều cầu thấy mặt Sa-lô-môn, đặng nghe sự khôn ngoan của người mà Đức Chúa Trời đã để trong lòng người. ²⁴ Cứ hằng năm theo lệ định, chúng đều đem đến vật mình tiến cống, nào những khí dụng bằng bạc, bằng vàng, nào áo xống, binh khí, nào thuốc thơm, ngựa và la. ²⁵ Vua Sa-lô-môn có được bốn ngàn tàu ngựa và xe, cùng một vạn hai ngàn lính kỵ, để trong các thành chứa xe, và gần bên vua, tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.⚓ ²⁶ Người quản trị trên các vua, từ sông cái cho đến xứ Phi-li-tin, và cho đến bờ cõi Ê-díp-tô.⚓ ²⁷ Tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, vua làm cho bạc ra thường như đá sỏi, và cây bá hương nhiều như cây sung mọc ở nơi đồng bằng. ²⁸ Có người đem cho Sa-lô-môn những ngựa từ xứ Ê-díp-tô và từ các nước mà đến.⚓

Sa-lô-môn qua đời

²⁹ Các công việc khác của Sa-lô-môn làm từ đầu đến cuối đều chép trong sách truyện Na-than, là đấng tiên tri, và trong sách tiên tri của A-hi-gia, người Si-lô, cùng trong sách dị tượng của Giê-đô, đấng tiên kiến luận về việc Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai của Nê-bát. ³⁰ Sa-lô-môn trị vì trên cả Y-sơ-ra-ên trong bốn mươi năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. ³¹ Sa-lô-môn an giấc cùng tổ phụ mình, được chôn trong thành của Đa-vít, là cha người; Rô-bô-am, con trai người, cai trị thế cho người.

The Queen of Sheba’s Praise of Solomon

¹Now ⚓when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to Jerusalem to test Solomon with hard questions, having a very great retinue, camels that bore spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones; and when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about all that was in her heart. ²So Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing so difficult for Solomon that he could not explain it to her. ³And when the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, ⁴the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his ⚓cupbearers and their apparel, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of the Lord, there was no more spirit in her.
⁵Then she said to the king: “It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom. ⁶However I did not believe their words until I came and saw with my own eyes; and indeed the half of the greatness of your wisdom was not told me. You exceed the fame of which I heard. ⁷Happy are your men and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom! ⁸Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, setting you on His throne to be king for the Lord your God! Because your God has ⚓loved Israel, to establish them forever, therefore He made you king over them, to do justice and righteousness.”
⁹And she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, spices in great abundance, and precious stones; there never were any spices such as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.
¹⁰Also, the servants of Hiram and the servants of Solomon, ⚓who brought gold from Ophir, brought algum wood and precious stones. ¹¹And the king made walkways of the algum wood for the house of the Lord and for the king’s house, also harps and stringed instruments for singers; and there were none such as these seen before in the land of Judah.
¹²Now King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all she desired, whatever she asked, much more than she had brought to the king. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.

Solomon’s Great Wealth

¹³⚓The weight of gold that came to Solomon yearly was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold, ¹⁴besides what the traveling merchants and traders brought. And all the kings of Arabia and governors of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon. ¹⁵And King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels of hammered gold went into each shield. ¹⁶He also made three hundred shields of hammered gold; three hundred shekels of gold went into each shield. The king put them in the ⚓House of the Forest of Lebanon.
¹⁷Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold. ¹⁸The throne had six steps, with a footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne; there were armrests on either side of the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the armrests. ¹⁹Twelve lions stood there, one on each side of the six steps; nothing like this had been made for any other kingdom.
²⁰All King Solomon’s drinking vessels were gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Not one was silver, for this was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon. ²¹For the king’s ships went to ⚓Tarshish with the servants of Hiram. Once every three years the merchant ships came, bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and monkeys.
²²So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom. ²³And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart. ²⁴Each man brought his present: articles of silver and gold, garments, ⚓armor, spices, horses, and mules, at a set rate year by year.
²⁵Solomon ⚓had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen whom he stationed in the chariot cities and with the king at Jerusalem.
²⁶⚓So he reigned over all the kings ⚓from the River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. ²⁷⚓The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedar trees ⚓as abundant as the sycamores which are in the lowland. ²⁸⚓And they brought horses to Solomon from Egypt and from all lands.

Death of Solomon

²⁹⚓Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the book of Nathan the prophet, in the prophecy of ⚓Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of ⚓Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam the son of Nebat? ³⁰⚓Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years. ³¹Then Solomon rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.
