Giô-a-cha làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên
1Vào năm thứ hai mươi ba đời trị vì của Giô-ách, con A-cha-xia, vua Giu-đa, thì Giô-a-cha, con Giê-hu, lên làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Sa-ma-ri, và trị vì mười bảy năm.
2Vua làm điều ác dưới mắt Đức Giê-hô-va, đi theo các tội lỗi của Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai Nê bát, là tội đã gây cho Y-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội; vua không từ bỏ tội ấy.
3Vì thế, cơn thịnh nộ của Đức Giê-hô-va nổi lên cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, Ngài phó họ vào tay Ha-xa-ên, vua A-ram, và vào tay Bên Ha-đát, con trai Ha-xa-ên, suốt thời trị vì của hai vua đó.
4Nhưng khi Giô-a-cha khẩn xin ân huệ của Đức Giê-hô-va thì Đức Giê-hô-va nhậm lời vua, vì Ngài đã thấy cảnh dân Y-sơ-ên bị vua A-ram áp bức.
5Đức Giê-hô-va ban cho Y-sơ-ra-ên một vị cứu tinh giải thoát họ khỏi tay dân A-ram. Vậy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên lại được sống trong lều trại của mình như trước.
6Tuy nhiên, họ vẫn không từ bỏ tội lỗi của nhà Giê-rô-bô-am, là tội đã gây cho Y-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội; họ cứ phạm tội đó, đến nỗi trụ thờ nữ thần A-sê-ra còn đứng sừng sững tại Sa-ma-ri.
7Chúa không để lại gì cho quân lực của Giô-a-cha ngoài năm mươi kỵ binh, mười chiến xa, và mười nghìn bộ binh. Vì vua A-ram đã tiêu diệt và nghiền nát quân Y-sơ-ra-ên như bụi trong sân đập lúa.
8Chẳng phải các việc khác của Giô-a-cha, tất cả những gì vua đã làm, và thế lực của vua đều được chép trong sách lịch sử các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên sao?
9Giô-a-cha an giấc cùng các tổ phụ mình và được an táng tại Sa-ma-ri. Giô-ách, con vua, lên ngai kế vị.
Giô-ách làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên
10Vào năm thứ ba mươi bảy đời trị vì của Giô-ách, vua Giu-đa, thì Giô-ách, con trai Giô-a-cha, lên làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Sa-ma-ri, và trị vì mười sáu năm.
11Vua làm điều ác dưới mắt Đức Giê-hô-va, không từ bỏ tội lỗi của Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai Nê-bát, là tội đã gây cho Y-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội; vua cứ đi theo con đường tội lỗi ấy.
12Chẳng phải các việc khác của Giô-ách, tất cả những gì vua đã làm, và chiến công của vua trong cuộc chiến với A-ma-xia, vua Giu-đa, đều được chép trong sách lịch sử các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên sao?
13Giô-ách an giấc cùng các tổ phụ mình, rồi Giê-rô-bô-am lên ngai kế vị. Giô-ách được an táng tại Sa-ma-ri cùng với các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.
Ê-li-sê qua đời
14Ê-li-sê lâm bệnh, và do bệnh ấy ông phải qua đời. Trước đó, Giô-ách, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, xuống thăm ông, khóc trước mặt ông và kêu than: “Cha tôi ơi! Cha tôi ơi! Chiến xa và kỵ binh của Y-sơ-ra-ên!”⚓
15Ê-li-sê nói với vua: “Xin vua lấy cung và tên ra đây.” Giô-ách lấy cung và tên.
16Ê-li-sê lại nói với vua Y-sơ-ra-ên: “Vua hãy giương cung lên.” Vua liền giương cung. Rồi Ê-li-sê đặt tay mình trên tay vua
17và nói: “Hãy mở cửa sổ về hướng đông.” Giô-ách mở cửa ra. Ê-li-sê lại nói: “Hãy bắn.” Vua liền bắn. Bấy giờ, Ê-li-sê nói: “Ấy là mũi tên chiến thắng của Đức Giê-hô-va, tức là mũi tên chiến thắng quân A-ram; vì vua sẽ đánh quân A-ram tại A-phéc, cho đến khi tận diệt chúng.”
18Ê-li-sê nói tiếp: “Xin vua hãy cầm lấy các mũi tên.” Vua liền cầm lấy. Ê-li-sê lại bảo vua Y-sơ-ra-ên: “Hãy đập xuống đất.” Giô-ách đập ba lần, rồi ngừng lại.
19Người của Đức Chúa Trời nổi giận với vua và nói: “Nếu vua đã đập năm hoặc sáu lần thì mới có thể đánh quân A-ram cho đến khi tận diệt chúng. Nhưng bây giờ, vua sẽ chỉ đánh bại quân A-ram được ba lần mà thôi.”
20Ê-li-sê qua đời và được an táng. Trong thời ấy, những toán quân Mô-áp cướp phá thường xâm nhập xứ sở vào dịp đầu năm.
21Một lần kia, người ta đang đem một người chết đi chôn thì thấy một toán quân đến cướp phá, họ liền ném người chết vào mộ của Ê-li-sê rồi bỏ đi. Vừa khi chạm đến hài cốt của Ê-li-sê thì người chết sống lại và đứng trên chân mình.
Giô-ách thắng dân A-ram
22Ha-xa-ên, vua A-ram, áp bức dân Y-sơ-ra-ên suốt thời gian trị vì của Giô-a-cha.
23Nhưng Đức Giê-hô-va vẫn làm ơn cho họ. Ngài thương xót và đoái xem họ vì giao ước mà Ngài đã lập với Áp-ra-ham, Y-sác, và Gia-cốp. Ngài không muốn tiêu diệt họ, và cho đến nay, vẫn không loại bỏ họ khỏi mặt Ngài.
24Khi vua A-ram là Ha-xa-ên băng hà, và con vua là Bên Ha-đát kế vị,
25thì Giô-ách, con Giô-a-cha, lấy lại từ tay Bên Ha-đát, con trai Ha-xa-ên, các thành mà vua ấy đã đánh chiếm được trong cuộc chiến với vua cha là Giô-a-cha. Giô-ách đánh bại Bên Ha-đát ba lần, và khôi phục các thành của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

Jehoahaz Reigns in Israel
1In the twenty-third year of ⚓Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, ⚓Jehoahaz the son of Jehu became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.
2And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the ⚓sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin. He did not depart from them.
3Then ⚓the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel, and He delivered them into the hand of ⚓Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of ⚓Ben-Hadad the son of Hazael, all their days.
4So Jehoahaz ⚓pleaded with the Lord, and the Lord listened to him; for ⚓He saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.
5⚓Then the Lord gave Israel a deliverer, so that they escaped from under the hand of the Syrians; and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as before.
6Nevertheless they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin, but walked in them; ⚓and the wooden image also remained in Samaria.
7For He left of the army of Jehoahaz only fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand foot soldiers; for the king of Syria had destroyed them ⚓and made them ⚓like the dust at threshing.
8Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
9So Jehoahaz rested with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. Then Joash his son reigned in his place.
Jehoash Reigns in Israel
10In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.
11And he did evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, but walked in them.
12⚓Now the rest of the acts of Joash, ⚓all that he did, and ⚓his might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
13So Joash ⚓rested with his fathers. Then Jeroboam sat on his throne. And Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
Death of Elisha
14Elisha had become sick with the illness of which he would die. Then Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over his face, and said, “O my father, my father, ⚓the chariots of Israel and their horsemen!”
15And Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and some arrows.” So he took himself a bow and some arrows.
16Then he said to the king of Israel, “Put your hand on the bow.” So he put his hand on it, and Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.
17And he said, “Open the east window”; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot”; and he shot. And he said, “The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you must strike the Syrians at ⚓Aphek till you have destroyed them.”
18Then he said, “Take the arrows”; so he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground”; so he struck three times, and stopped.
19And the man of God was angry with him, and said, “You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria till you had destroyed it!⚓But now you will strike Syria only three times.”
20Then Elisha died, and they buried him. And the ⚓raiding bands from Moab invaded the land in the spring of the year.
21So it was, as they were burying a man, that suddenly they spied a band of raiders; and they put the man in the tomb of Elisha; and when the man was let down and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.
Israel Recaptures Cities from Syria
22And ⚓Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23But the Lord was ⚓gracious to them, had compassion on them, and ⚓regarded them, ⚓because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not yet destroy them or cast them from His presence.
24Now Hazael king of Syria died. Then Ben-Hadad his son reigned in his place.
25And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz recaptured from the hand of Ben-Hadad, the son of Hazael, the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. ⚓Three times Joash defeated him and recaptured the cities of Israel.
