Jephthah
1Now ⚓Jephthah the Gileadite was ⚓a mighty man of valor, but he was the son of a harlot; and Gilead begot Jephthah.
2Gilead’s wife bore sons; and when his wife’s sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out, and said to him, “You shall have ⚓no inheritance in our father’s house, for you are the son of another woman.”
3Then Jephthah fled from his brothers and dwelt in the land of ⚓Tob; and ⚓worthless men banded together with Jephthah and went out raiding with him.
4It came to pass after a time that the ⚓people of Ammon made war against Israel.
5And so it was, when the people of Ammon made war against Israel, that the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob.
6Then they said to Jephthah, “Come and be our commander, that we may fight against the people of Ammon.”
7So Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, ⚓“Did you not hate me, and expel me from my father’s house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?”
8⚓And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “That is why we have ⚓turned again to you now, that you may go with us and fight against the people of Ammon, and be ⚓our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
9So Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “If you take me back home to fight against the people of Ammon, and the Lord delivers them to me, shall I be your head?”
10And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, ⚓“The Lord will be a witness between us, if we do not do according to your words.”
11Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him ⚓head and commander over them; and Jephthah spoke all his words ⚓before the Lord in Mizpah.
12Now Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the people of Ammon, saying, ⚓“What do you have against me, that you have come to fight against me in my land?”
13And the king of the people of Ammon answered the messengers of Jephthah, ⚓“Because Israel took away my land when they came up out of Egypt, from ⚓the Arnon as far as ⚓the Jabbok, and to the Jordan. Now therefore, restore those lands peaceably.”
14So Jephthah again sent messengers to the king of the people of Ammon,
15and said to him, “Thus says Jephthah: ⚓‘Israel did not take away the land of Moab, nor the land of the people of Ammon;
16for when Israel came up from Egypt, they walked through the wilderness as far as the Red Sea and ⚓came to Kadesh.
17Then ⚓Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, “Please let me pass through your land.” ⚓But the king of Edom would not heed. And in like manner they sent to the ⚓king of Moab, but he would not consent. So Israel ⚓remained in Kadesh.
18And they ⚓went along through the wilderness and ⚓bypassed the land of Edom and the land of Moab, came to the east side of the land of Moab, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon. But they did not enter the border of Moab, for the Arnon was the border of Moab.
19Then ⚓Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him, “Please ⚓let us pass through your land into our place.”
20⚓But Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his territory. So Sihon gathered all his people together, encamped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
21And the Lord God of Israel ⚓delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they ⚓defeated them. Thus Israel gained possession of all the land of the Amorites, who inhabited that country.
22They took possession of ⚓all the territory of the Amorites, from the Arnon to the Jabbok and from the wilderness to the Jordan.
23‘And now the Lord God of Israel has dispossessed the Amorites from before His people Israel; should you then possess it?
24Will you not possess whatever ⚓Chemosh your god gives you to possess? So whatever ⚓the Lord our God takes possession of before us, we will possess.
25And now, are you any better than ⚓Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever strive against Israel? Did he ever fight against them?
26While Israel dwelt in ⚓Heshbon and its villages, in ⚓Aroer and its villages, and in all the cities along the banks of the Arnon, for three hundred years, why did you not recover them within that time?
27Therefore I have not sinned against you, but you wronged me by fighting against me. May the Lord, ⚓the Judge, ⚓render judgment this day between the children of Israel and the people of Ammon.’ ”
28However, the king of the people of Ammon did not heed the words which Jephthah sent him.
Jephthah’s Vow and Victory
29Then ⚓the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh, and passed through Mizpah of Gilead; and from Mizpah of Gilead he advanced toward the people of Ammon.
30And Jephthah ⚓made a vow to the Lord, and said, “If You will indeed deliver the people of Ammon into my hands,
31then it will be that whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the people of Ammon, ⚓shall surely be the Lord’s, ⚓and I will offer it up as a burnt offering.”
32So Jephthah advanced toward the people of Ammon to fight against them, and the Lord delivered them into his hands.
33And he defeated them from Aroer as far as ⚓Minnith—twenty cities—and to Abel Keramim, with a very great slaughter. Thus the people of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.
Jephthah’s Daughter
34When Jephthah came to his house at ⚓Mizpah, there was ⚓his daughter, coming out to meet him with timbrels and dancing; and she was his only child. Besides her he had neither son nor daughter.
35And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he ⚓tore his clothes, and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low! You are among those who trouble me! For I ⚓have given my word to the Lord, and ⚓I cannot go back on it.”
36So she said to him, “My father, if you have given your word to the Lord, ⚓do to me according to what has gone out of your mouth, because ⚓the Lord has avenged you of your enemies, the people of Ammon.”
37Then she said to her father, “Let this thing be done for me: let me alone for two months, that I may go and wander on the mountains and bewail my virginity, my friends and I.”
38So he said, “Go.” And he sent her away for two months; and she went with her friends, and bewailed her virginity on the mountains.
39And it was so at the end of two months that she returned to her father, and he ⚓carried out his vow with her which he had vowed. She knew no man.
And it became a custom in Israel
40that the daughters of Israel went four days each year to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite.

3Cỗ ngkíq Yêp-thê dễq tễ tỗp sễm ai án; chơ ỡt tâng vil Top ễn. Ỡt tâng vil ki án táq yớu ratoi cớp máh cũai hũat; chơ máh cũai ki puai tantun án.
4Toâq ntun ễn, tỗp Amôn aloŏh ngê ễ pỡq chíl cũai I-sarel.
5Bo mbỡiq rachíl, máh cũai sốt tỗp Ki-liat pỡq coâiq Yêp-thê tễ vil Top,
6cớp pai neq: “Sễq mới cỡt sốt tahan hếq! Dŏq yỗn tỗp hái chíl riap tỗp Amôn.”
7Yêp-thê ta‑ỡi neq: “Tỗp anhia kêt lứq cứq, cớp khoiq tuih cứq yỗn dễq tễ dống mpoaq cứq, lứq tỡ? Ma sanua, tữ anhia ramóh ŏ́c croŏq criat, nŏ́q anhia toâq ravoât cứq?”
8Máh cũai sốt ki ta‑ỡi neq: “Tỗp hếq toâq trỗ nâi la cỗ ễq mới pỡq chíl tỗp Amôn parnơi cớp hếq, cớp ễq mới cỡt cũai radững dũ náq tỗp Ki-liat.”
9Yêp-thê ta‑ỡi neq: “Khân anhia yỗn cứq chu loah pỡ dống cứq dŏq rachíl cớp tỗp Amôn, cớp Yiang Sursĩ táq yỗn cứq chíl riap, ngkíq cứq têq cỡt sốt tỗp anhia tỡ?”
10Tỗp alới ta‑ỡi neq: “Lứq ngkíq! Sễq Yiang Sursĩ toâp dáng cớp hữm tễ ranáq nâi.”
11Yuaq ngkíq, Yêp-thê ma píh chu cớp cũai sốt tỗp Ki-liat; chơ máh cũai proai chóh án yỗn cỡt sốt dŏq ayông tahan tỗp alới. Ma Yêp-thê ruaih loah nheq santoiq án khoiq pai choâng moat Yiang Sursĩ pỡ vil Mit-ba.
12Chơ Yêp-thê ớn ranễng án pỡq atỡng puo cũai Amôn neq: “Ŏ́c ntrớu mới tỡ bữn bũi chóq tỗp hếq? Cỗ nŏ́q mới toâq chíl talốh cruang cutễq hếq?”
13Puo cũai Amôn ta‑ỡi ranễng Yêp-thê neq: “Bo cũai I-sarel loŏh tễ cruang Ê-yip-tô, tỗp alới cheng ndỡm cutễq tỗp hếq, noap tễ crỗng Ar-nôn toau toâq crỗng Yaboc, ĩt dếh crỗng Yôr-dan hỡ. Sanua, sễq tỗp anhia culáh loah máh cutễq ki dŏq tỗp hái têq ỡt ratoi loah.”
14Yêp-thê ớn cũai ranễng ki pỡq loah ramóh puo tỗp Amôn
15cớp ta‑ỡi neq: “Cũai I-sarel tỡ bữn cheng cutễq tỗp Mô-ap cớp tỗp Amôn.
16Bo cũai I-sarel loŏh tễ cruang Ê-yip-tô, tỗp alới pỡq pha ntốq aiq bân dỡq mưt Cusâu, chơ toâq pỡ cruang Cadet.
17Tỗp alới ớn ranễng pỡq ramóh puo Ê-dôm sễq pha cutễq án. Ma puo ki tỡ yỗn. Chơ tỗp alới sễq pỡq pha cutễq puo cũai Mô-ap ễn, ma puo ki tỡ yỗn tê. Ngkíq yuaq cũai I-sarel ỡt dỡ pỡ Cadet.
18Vớt ki, tỗp alới pỡq chu ntốq aiq, viel cruang cutễq Ê-dôm cớp cruang Mô-ap coah crỗng Ar-nôn. Tỗp alới táq ntốq ỡt dỡ tâng ki, ma tỡ bữn clong crỗng Ar-nôn, cỗ ntốq ki la raloan cutễq tỗp Mô-ap.
19Chơ cũai I-sarel ớn ranễng alới pỡq ramóh Si-hôn, puo cũai Amô-rit, la cỡt sốt tâng vil Hê-sabôn, cớp sễq pỡq pha cutễq án, yuaq ễ pỡq chu cutễq tỗp alới bữm.
20Ma puo Si-hôn tỡ yỗn, dếh án dững máh tahan pỡq ỡt crŏ́q pỡ vil Yahat, chơ rachíl cớp tỗp I-sarel.
21Ma Yiang Sursĩ, Ncháu tỗp I-sarel, táq yỗn tỗp I-sarel chíl riap puo Si-hôn cớp máh tahan án. Yuaq ngkíq, ma tỗp I-sarel bữn ndỡm nheq cutễq tỗp Amô-rit ỡt tâng cruang ki.
22Tỗp alới bữn ndỡm nheq cutễq, noap tễ crỗng Ar-nôn coah angia pưn toau toâq crỗng Yaboc coah angia pỡng; cớp tễ ntốq aiq coah angia mandang loŏh toau toâq crỗng Yôr-dan angia mandang pât.
23Ranáq nâi Yiang Sursĩ, Ncháu cũai I-sarel, toâp tuih tỗp Amô-rit yỗn dễq, dŏq cũai proai I-sarel ễn ndỡm cruang cutễq ki.
24Ma nŏ́q mới yoc ễ cheng ĩt loah? Mới têq cỡt sốt máh cutễq yiang Khê-môt chiau yỗn mới. Machớng ki tê, tỗp hếq ễ cỡt sốt máh cutễq Yiang Sursĩ khoiq chiau yỗn tỗp hếq ndỡm.
25Mới chanchớm mới la pla hỡn tễ Balac con samiang Si-pôr, puo cũai Mô-ap, tỡ? Án tỡ nai ralỗih cớp cũai I-sarel, cớp án tỡ nai rachíl ratáq cớp tỗp hếq.
26Khoiq pái culám cumo chơ tỗp I-sarel cỡt sốt vil Hê-sabôn cớp vil Arô-er, dếh vil cớt ỡt mpễr ki hỡ, cớp máh vil ỡt mpễr pứh crỗng Ar-nôn. Khoiq dũn cumo chơ, mới tỡ bữn cheng ĩt loah.
27Cứq tỡ nai táq lôih ntrớu chóq mới, ma mới toâp táq lôih chóq cứq; atĩ mới toâp ễ chíl cứq. Ngkíq, sễq Yiang Sursĩ rasữq tễ ranáq nâi; yỗn án rasữq cũai I-sarel cớp cũai Amôn.”
28Ma puo cũai Amôn tỡ bữn tamứng santoiq Yêp-thê pai.
29Chơ Raviei Yiang Sursĩ cỡt sốt tâng mứt pahỡm Yêp-thê; án pỡq pha cruang Ki-liat cớp cruang Ma-nasê. Moâm ki án píh chu loah pỡ vil Mit-ba, cruang Ki-liat. Tễ ki án pỡq chíl chu cruang cutễq tỗp Amôn.
30Yêp-thê parkhán chóq Yiang Sursĩ neq: “Khân anhia yỗn cứq chíl riap tỗp Amôn,
31cứq ễ chiau sang acán ntrớu ca loŏh nhũang tễ dống cứq ễ ramóh cứq, cỡt crơng bốh chiau sang yỗn anhia.”
32Chơ Yêp-thê clong dỡq pỡq chu tỗp Amôn, cớp Yiang Sursĩ chuai án chíl riap tỗp alới.
33Án chíl tỗp alới tễ vil Arô-er toau toâq pỡ raloan cutễq vil Mi-nit; án cheng bữn bar chít vil; chơ luat pỡ raloan cutễq tỗp Aben Kê-ramim. Ranáq rachíl toâr lứq, ma tỗp I-sarel chíl riap tỗp Amôn.
Con Cumũr Yêp-thê
34Toâq Yêp-thê píh chu dống án tâng vil Mit-ba, con cumũr án loŏh roap ỡn mpoaq án chu, cớp puan sarai puai sưong sacơr cớt. Yêp-thê bữn con ống muoi lám nâi toâp.
35Bo án hữm con án, án háq au bữm cỗ sâng ngua lứq tâng mứt, cớp án pai neq: “Ơiq con ơi! Mứt cứq mpoaq sâng yarĩaq lứq! Nŏ́q con táq yỗn cứq mpoaq ramóh ŏ́c túh arức lứq? Cứq mpoaq khoiq parkhán cớp Yiang Sursĩ chơ; ngkíq cứq tỡ têq ĩt loah parnai parkhán ki.”
36Niang ki pai cớp mpoaq án neq: “Khân mpoaq khoiq parkhán cớp Yiang Sursĩ chơ, cóq mpoaq táq ariang mpoaq khoiq parkhán; yuaq Yiang Sursĩ khoiq chuai yỗn mpoaq carláh dỡq chóq tỗp Amôn ca par‑ũal tỗp hái.”
37Ma niang sễq tễ mpoaq án neq: “Cứq con sễq muoi ramứh tễ mpoaq, sễq mpoaq yỗn cứq con ỡt bar casâi ễn dŏq pỡq chu cóh king dŏq nhiam tanúh parnơi cớp yớu cứq, yuaq cứq la mansễm plot ma cóq cuchĩt.”
38Yêp-thê yỗn án pỡq bar casâi. Niang cớp yớu án pỡq nhiam tanúh tâng máh cóh, yuaq niang noâng la mansễm plot ma cóq cuchĩt.
39Toâq dũ bar casâi, án píh chu loah pỡ mpoaq án. Mpoaq án táq ariang án khoiq parkhán cớp Yiang Sursĩ chơ. Yuaq ngkíq, án cuchĩt bo noâng cumũr plot o.
Noap tễ tangái ki, ranáq nâi cỡt rit yỗn máh cũai I-sarel sanhữ níc.
40Dũ cumo tỗp cumũr cóq loŏh nhiam tanúh pỗn tangái yỗn con cumũr Yêp-thê tễ cruang Ki-liat.
