1Now all ⚓the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was⚓in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the ⚓scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded Israel.
2So Ezra the priest brought ⚓the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could hear with understanding ⚓on the first day of the seventh month.
3Then he ⚓read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law.
4So Ezra the scribe stood on a platform of wood which they had made for the purpose; and beside him, at his right hand, stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Urijah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah; and at his left hand Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
5And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people ⚓stood up.
6And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God.
Then all the people ⚓answered, “Amen, Amen!” while ⚓lifting up their hands. And they ⚓bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
7Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, ⚓helped the people to understand the Law; and the people ⚓stood in their place.
8So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading.
9⚓And Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, ⚓“This day is holy to the Lord your God; ⚓do not mourn nor weep.” For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law.
10Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, ⚓and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
11So the Levites quieted all the people, saying, “Be still, for the day is holy; do not be grieved.”
12And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to ⚓send portions and rejoice greatly, because they ⚓understood the words that were declared to them.
The Feast of Tabernacles
13Now on the second day the heads of the fathers’ houses of all the people, with the priests and Levites, were gathered to Ezra the scribe, in order to understand the words of the Law.
14And they found written in the Law, which the Lord had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in ⚓booths during the feast of the seventh month,
15and ⚓that they should announce and proclaim in all their cities and ⚓in Jerusalem, saying, “Go out to the mountain, and ⚓bring olive branches, branches of oil trees, myrtle branches, palm branches, and branches of leafy trees, to make booths, as it is written.”
16Then the people went out and brought them and made themselves booths, each one on the ⚓roof of his house, or in their courtyards or the courts of the house of God, and in the open square of the ⚓Water Gate ⚓and in the open square of the Gate of Ephraim.
17So the whole assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and sat under the booths; for since the days of Joshua the son of Nun until that day the children of Israel had not done so. And there was very ⚓great gladness.
18Also ⚓day by day, from the first day until the last day, he read from the Book of the Law of God. And they kept the feast ⚓seven days; and on the ⚓eighth day there was a sacred assembly, according to the prescribed manner.

Dân Chúng Tụ Họp Lại Nghe Đọc Và Giải Nghĩa Kinh Luật
1Bấy giờ toàn dân nhất trí tụ họp lại tại quảng trường trước cổng Nước. Họ xin thầy tế lễ Ê-xơ-ra thông thạo về Kinh Luật đem ra cuộn da đã chép Kinh Luật Môi-se mà CHÚA đã truyền dạy cho Y-sơ-ra-ên.
2Ngày mồng một tháng bảy, thầy tế lễ Ê-xơ-ra đem Kinh Luật ra trước hội chúng bao gồm cả nam lẫn nữ cùng hết thảy những người có khả năng thông hiểu những gì họ nghe.
3Tại quảng trường trước cổng Nước, từ rạng đông cho đến trưa, ông đọc cho cả nam lẫn nữ cùng những người có khả năng hiểu biết nghe. Toàn dân lắng tai nghe đọc Kinh Luật.
4Thầy tế lễ thông thạo Kinh Luật Ê-xơ-ra đứng trên một bục gỗ cao⚓ đóng nhơn dịp này. Đứng bên phải ông có Ma-ti-thia, Sê-ma, A-na-gia, U-ri-gia, Hinh-ki-gia, và Ma-a-xê-gia. Bên trái có Phê-đa-gia, Mi-sa-ên, Manh-ki-gia, Ha-sum, Hạch-ba-đa-na, Xa-cha-ri, và Mê-su-lam.
5Vì Ê-xơ-ra đứng cao hơn họ, nên khi ông mở cuốn kinh ra, toàn dân đều thấy, và đứng dậy.
6Ê-xơ-ra ca tụng CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời vĩ đại. Toàn dân giơ tay lên, đáp lại: “A-men! A-men!” rồi quỳ gối, sấp mặt xuống đất, thờ lạy CHÚA.
7Những người Lê-vi là Giê-sua, Ba-ni, Sê-rê-bia, Gia-min, A-cúp, Sa-bê-thai, Hô-đi-gia, Ma-a-xê-gia, Kê-li-ta, A-xa-ria, Giô-xa-bát, Ha-nan, và Bê-la-gia giải thích cho dân chúng hiểu rõ Kinh Luật trong khi dân chúng ai nấy đứng nguyên tại chỗ mình.
8Họ đọc Kinh Luật của Đức Chúa Trời, đọc và giải nghĩa từng phân đoạn⚓ cho nên dân chúng hiểu lời họ đọc.
9Vì cả dân chúng đều khóc khi nghe những lời trong Kinh Luật nên tổng trấn Nê-hê-mi, thầy tế lễ Ê-xơ-ra, và những người Lê-vi đang giải thích cho dân chúng thông hiểu Kinh Luật, nói với họ: “Xin ông bà anh chị chớ buồn rầu, cũng đừng than khóc, vì hôm nay là ngày thánh cho CHÚA.”
10Ê-xơ-ra nói tiếp: “Ông bà anh chị hãy về ăn của ngon,⚓ uống vật ngọt,⚓ và hãy san sẻ thức ăn⚓ cho những người không có chuẩn bị, vì hôm nay là ngày thánh cho Chúa chúng ta. Xin ông bà anh chị chớ sầu thảm, vì niềm vui trong CHÚA là sức mạnh của ông bà anh chị.”
11Người Lê-vi cũng khuyên lơn dân chúng: “Xin ông bà anh chị an tâm. Vì hôm nay là ngày thánh, xin ông bà anh chị đừng sầu não nữa.”
12Toàn thể dân chúng ra về, ăn, uống, và san sẻ cho người không có. Họ ăn mừng trọng thể vì họ hiểu được những lời truyền dạy cho họ.
Cử Hành Lễ Lều Tạm
13Qua ngày mồng hai, các trưởng tộc trong dân chúng, các thầy tế lễ và người Lê-vi tụ họp chung quanh thầy tế lễ thông thạo Kinh Luật Ê-xơ-ra để học hỏi những lời răn dạy trong Kinh Luật.
14Họ thấy có ghi chép trong Kinh Luật, CHÚA truyền dạy qua Môi-se rằng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên phải ở trong lều suốt thời gian lễ trong tháng bảy,
15và phải rao thông báo khắp các thành thị và thành Giê-ru-sa-lem như vầy: “Hãy lên đồi, mang về những nhành lá cây ô-liu, cây thông, cây sim, cây kè, và nhánh những loài cây rậm lá để dựng lều y như đã chép.”
16Thế là dân chúng lên đồi, mang lá về dựng lều: người thì dựng ngay trên mái nhà mình, kẻ thì dựng trong sân nhà, kẻ khác trong sân đền thờ Đức Chúa Trời, kẻ kia tại quảng trường bên cổng Nước, kẻ nọ tại quảng trường bên cổng Ép-ra-im.
17Toàn hội chúng những người trở về từ chốn phu tù đều dựng lều và ở trong lều. Từ thời Giô-suê, con trai Nun, cho đến nay, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên chưa từng làm như vậy. Mọi người đều hoan hỉ.
18Ê-xơ-ra⚓ đọc Kinh Luật của Đức Chúa Trời mỗi ngày, từ ngày đầu đến ngày cuối. Họ giữ lễ trong bảy ngày. Đến ngày thứ tám, họ cử hành lễ bế mạc cách trọng thể, và nghỉ mọi công việc, theo như quy định.
