Đa-vít đương trị vì tại Hếp-rôn chiếm lấy thành Giê-ru-sa-lem

¹ Lúc ấy, cả Y-sơ-ra-ên đều nhóm đến cùng Đa-vít tại Hếp-rôn, mà nói rằng: Kìa, chúng tôi vốn là xương thịt của ông. ² Khi trước dầu Sau-lơ còn cai trị chúng tôi, thì ông đã dẫn Y-sơ-ra-ên vào ra; và Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của ông có phán cùng ông rằng: Ngươi sẽ chăn nuôi dân ta là Y-sơ-ra-ên, làm quan tướng chúng nó. ³ Ấy vậy, các trưởng lão Y-sơ-ra-ên đến cùng vua ở Hếp-rôn; Đa-vít bèn lập giao ước với chúng tại Hếp-rôn trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va; đoạn, chúng xức dầu cho Đa-vít làm vua trên Y-sơ-ra-ên, y như lời của Đức Giê-hô-va đã cậy Sa-mu-ên phán ra vậy.
⁴ Đa-vít và cả dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, ấy là Giê-bu; ở đó có người Giê-bu-sít, là dân của xứ.⚓ ⁵ Dân cư Giê-bu nói cùng Đa-vít rằng: Ngươi sẽ chẳng hề vào đây. Dầu vậy, Đa-vít chiếm lấy đồn lũy Si-ôn, ấy là thành Đa-vít.
⁶ Đa-vít nói rằng: Hễ ai hãm đánh dân Giê-bu-sít trước hết, ắt sẽ được làm trưởng và làm tướng. Vậy, Giô-áp, con trai Xê-ru-gia, đi lên đánh trước hết, nên được làm quan trưởng. ⁷ Đa-vít ở trong đồn; vậy nên gọi là thành Đa-vít. ⁸ Người xây tường thành bốn phía, từ Mi-lô cho đến khắp chung quanh; còn phần thành dư lại thì Giô-áp sửa sang. ⁹ Đa-vít càng ngày càng cường thạnh; vì Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân ở cùng người.
¹⁰ Đây là những kẻ làm tướng các lính mạnh dạn của Đa-vít, và đã phò giúp người được ngôi nước, cùng với cả Y-sơ-ra-ên, lập người lên làm vua, y như lời Đức Giê-hô-va đã phán về Y-sơ-ra-ên. ¹¹ Nầy là số các lính mạnh dạn của Đa-vít: Gia-sô-bê-am, con trai của Hác-mô-ni, làm đầu các tướng; ấy là người dùng giáo mình mà giết ba trăm người trong một lượt. ¹² Sau người có Ê-lê-a-sa, con trai của Đô-đô, ở A-hô-a, là một người trong ba người mạnh dạn. ¹³ Người nầy ở cùng Đa-vít nơi Pha-đa-mim, khi quân Phi-li-tin nhóm lại đặng giao chiến. Ở đó có một đám ruộng mạch nha, và dân sự đều chạy trốn khỏi mặt dân Phi-li-tin. ¹⁴ Còn họ đều đứng trong ruộng binh vực nó, và đánh hơn dân Phi-li-tin, và Đức Giê-hô-va khiến cho họ đặng sự thắng trận rất lớn.
¹⁵ Trong bọn ba mươi người làm tướng, có ba người đi xuống hang đá A-đu-lam, đến cùng Đa-vít. Còn đạo quân Phi-li-tin đóng trại tại trong trũng Rê-pha-im. ¹⁶ Lúc ấy Đa-vít ở trong đồn, và có phòng binh của dân Phi-li-tin ở Bết-lê-hem. ¹⁷ Đa-vít ước ao rằng: Than ôi! chớ gì ai ban cho ta nước uống của giếng bên cửa thành Bết-lê-hem! ¹⁸ Vậy, ba người nầy xông ngang qua trại Phi-li-tin múc nước trong giếng bên cửa thành Bết-lê-hem, đem về cho Đa-vít uống; song người chẳng chịu uống, bèn rảy nước ấy ra trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, ¹⁹ mà nói rằng: Cầu Chúa giữ lấy tôi, đừng để tôi làm sự nầy; tôi hẳn không uống huyết của ba người nầy, đã liều thân mình đặng đem nước đến. Vì cớ ấy nên người không chịu uống. Ấy là công việc của ba người mạnh dạn đó đã làm.
²⁰ Lại có A-bi-sai, em của Giô-áp, làm đầu trong ba người mạnh dạn; người dùng giáo mình mà giết ba trăm người, nên nổi danh tiếng trong ba người ấy. ²¹ Trong ba người mạnh dạn ấy, người sang trọng hơn, được làm trưởng của họ, song chẳng bằng ba người trước.
²² Lại có Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa ở Cáp-xê-ên, là một người mạnh dạn đã làm nhiều công việc cả thể; người đã giết hai người Mô-áp mạnh bạo hơn hết; trong kỳ sa tuyết, người xuống một cái hố giết một con sư tử. ²³ Người cũng đánh giết một người Ê-díp-tô cao năm thước; người Ê-díp-tô cầm nơi tay cây giáo lớn bằng trục máy dệt, còn Bê-na-gia xuống đón người, cầm một cây gậy, rút lấy giáo khỏi tay người Ê-díp-tô, dùng giáo nó mà giết nó. ²⁴ Ấy là công việc Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa, đã làm, được nổi danh tiếng trong ba người mạnh dạn. ²⁵ Trong ba mươi người mạnh dạn, người được sang trọng hơn hết, song chẳng bằng ba người trước. Đa-vít nhận người vào bàn mật nghị mình.
²⁶ Lại có các người mạnh dạn trong đạo binh, là: A-sa-ên, em của Giô-áp; Ên-ca-nan, con trai của Đô-đô ở Bết-lê-hem; ²⁷ Sa-mốt, người Ha-rôn; Hê-lết, người Pha-lôn; ²⁸ Y-ra, con trai của Y-kết ở Thê-kô-a; A-bi-ê-xe ở A-na-tốt; ²⁹ Si-bê-cai ở Hu-sa; Y-lai ở A-hô-a; ³⁰ Ma-ha-rai ở Nê-tô-pha; Hê-lết, con trai của Ba-a-na ở Nê-tô-pha; ³¹ Y-tai, con trai Ri-bai ở Ghi-bê-a, thành của con cháu Bên-gia-min; Bê-na-gia ở Phi-ra-thôn; ³² Hu-rai ở Na-ha-lê-Ga-ách; A-bi-ên ở A-ra-ba; ³³ Ách-ma-vết ở Ba-hu-rim; Ê-li-ác-ba ở Sa-anh-bôn; ³⁴ Bê-ne-ha-sem ở Ghi-xôn; Giô-na-than, con trai Sa-ghê ở Ha-ra; ³⁵ A-hi-giam, con trai Sa-ca ở Ha-ra; Ê-li-pha, con trai U-rơ; ³⁶ Hê-phe ở Mê-kê-ra; A-hi-gia ở Pha-lôn; ³⁷ Hết-rô ở Cạt-mên; Na-a-rai, con trai E-bai; ³⁸ Giô-ên em của Na-than; Mi-bê-ha, con trai của Ha-gơ-ri; Xê-léc là người Am-môn; ³⁹ Na-ha-rai ở Bê-ê-rốt, là kẻ vác binh khí của Giô-áp, con trai của Xê-ru-gia; ⁴⁰ Y-ra ở Giê-the; Ga-rép cũng ở Giê-the; ⁴¹ U-ri người Hê-tít; Xa-bát, con trai Ạc-lai; ⁴² A-đi-na, con trai của Si-xa, người Ru-bên, làm trưởng dòng Ru-bên, và có ba mươi binh chiến ở với người; ⁴³ Ha-nan, con trai của Ma-a-ca; Giô-sa-phát ở Mê-then; ⁴⁴ U-xia ở Ách-ta-rốt; Sa-ma và Giê-hi-ên, con trai của Hô-tam ở A-rô-e; ⁴⁵ Giê-đi-a-ên, con trai của Sim-ri; Giô-ha, anh em người dân Thi-sít; ⁴⁶ Ê-li-ên ở Ma-ha-vim; Giê-ri-bai và Giô-sa-via, con trai của Ên-na-am; Gít-ma là người Mô-áp; ⁴⁷ Ê-li-ên, Ô-bết, và Gia-a-si-ên, là người Mết-sô-ba.

David Made King over All Israel

¹Then ⚓all Israel came together to David at Hebron, saying, “Indeed we are your bone and your flesh. ²Also, in time past, even when Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the Lord your ⚓God said to you, ‘You shall ⚓shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over My people Israel.’ ” ³Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And ⚓they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by ⚓Samuel.

The City of David

⁴And David and all Israel ⚓went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, ⚓where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land. ⁵But the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You shall not come in here!” Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David). ⁶Now David said, “Whoever attacks the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain.” And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and became chief. ⁷Then David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the City of David. ⁸And he built the city around it, from the Millo to the surrounding area. Joab repaired the rest of the city. ⁹So David ⚓went on and became great, and the Lord of hosts was with ⚓him.

The Mighty Men of David

¹⁰Now ⚓these were the heads of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, according to ⚓the word of the Lord concerning Israel.
¹¹And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: ⚓Jashobeam the son of a Hachmonite, ⚓chief of the captains; he had lifted up his spear against three hundred, killed by him at one time.
¹²After him was Eleazar the son of ⚓Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men. ¹³He was with David at Pasdammim. Now there the Philistines were gathered for battle, and there was a piece of ground full of barley. So the people fled from the Philistines. ¹⁴But they stationed themselves in the middle of that field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. So the Lord brought about a great victory.
¹⁵Now three of the thirty chief men ⚓went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the army of the Philistines encamped ⚓in the Valley of Rephaim. ¹⁶David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem. ¹⁷And David said with longing, “Oh, that someone would give me a drink of water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!” ¹⁸So the three broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless David would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord. ¹⁹And he said, “Far be it from me, O my God, that I should do this! Shall I drink the blood of these men who have put their lives in jeopardy? For at the risk of their lives they brought it.” Therefore he would not drink it. These things were done by the three mighty men.
²⁰⚓Abishai the brother of Joab was chief of another three. He had lifted up his spear against three hundred men, killed them, and won a name among these three. ²¹⚓Of the three he was more honored than the other two men. Therefore he became their captain. However he did not attain to the first three.
²²Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from Kabzeel, who had done many deeds. ⚓He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day. ²³And he killed an Egyptian, a man of great height, five cubits tall. In the Egyptian’s hand there was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, wrested the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear. ²⁴These things Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did, and won a name among three mighty men. ²⁵Indeed he was more honored than the thirty, but he did not attain to the first three. And David appointed him over his guard.
²⁶Also the mighty warriors were⚓Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem, ²⁷Shammoth the Harorite, ⚓Helez the Pelonite, ²⁸⚓Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, ⚓Abiezer the Anathothite, ²⁹Sibbechai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite, ³⁰⚓Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite, ³¹Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah, of the sons of Benjamin, ⚓Benaiah the Pirathonite, ³²Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite, ³³Azmaveth the Baharumite, Eliahba the Shaalbonite, ³⁴the sons of Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shageh the Hararite, ³⁵Ahiam the son of Sacar the Hararite, Eliphal the son of Ur, ³⁶Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite, ³⁷Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the son of Ezbai, ³⁸Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Hagri, ³⁹Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite (the armorbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah), ⁴⁰Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite, ⁴¹⚓Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai, ⁴²Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite (a chief of the Reubenites) and thirty with him, ⁴³Hanan the son of Maachah, Joshaphat the Mithnite, ⁴⁴Uzzia the Ashterathite, Shama and Jeiel the sons of Hotham the Aroerite, ⁴⁵Jediael the son of Shimri, and Joha his brother, the Tizite, ⁴⁶Eliel the Mahavite, Jeribai and Joshaviah the sons of Elnaam, Ithmah the Moabite, ⁴⁷Eliel, Obed, and Jaasiel the Mezobaite.
