The Land Divided West of the Jordan
1These are the areas which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, ⚓which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel distributed as an inheritance to them.
2Their inheritance was⚓by lot, as the Lord had commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe.
3⚓For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe on the other side of the Jordan; but to the Levites he had given no inheritance among them.
4For ⚓the children of Joseph were two tribes: Manasseh and Ephraim. And they gave no part to the Levites in the land, except ⚓cities to dwell in, with their common-lands for their livestock and their property.
5⚓As the Lord had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did; and they divided the land.
Caleb Inherits Hebron
6Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the ⚓Kenizzite said to him: “You know ⚓the word which the Lord said to Moses the man of God concerning ⚓you and me in Kadesh Barnea.
7I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord⚓sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart.
8Nevertheless ⚓my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly ⚓followed the Lord my God.
9So Moses swore on that day, saying, ⚓‘Surely the land ⚓where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’
10And now, behold, the Lord has kept me ⚓alive, ⚓as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old.
11⚓As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both ⚓for going out and for coming in.
12Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how ⚓the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. ⚓It may be that the Lordwill be with me, and ⚓I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.”
13And Joshua ⚓blessed him, ⚓and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance.
14⚓Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he ⚓wholly followed the Lord God of Israel.
15And ⚓the name of Hebron formerly was Kirjath Arba (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim).
⚓Then the land had rest from war.

Chia Đất Phía Tây Sông Giô-đanh
1Đây là địa phận mà dân Y-sơ-ra-ên nhận làm cơ nghiệp trong đất Ca-na-an, theo sự phân chia của thầy tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa, Giô-suê, con trai Nun, và các trưởng chi tộc Y-sơ-ra-ên.
2Họ bắt thăm chia đất cho chín chi tộc rưỡi như CHÚA đã dùng Môi-se truyền bảo.
3Môi-se đã cấp cơ nghiệp cho hai chi tộc rưỡi tại phía đông sông Giô-đanh nhưng không cấp cơ nghiệp nào cho người Lê-vi cả,
4vì dòng dõi của Giô-sép đã trở thành hai chi tộc là Ma-na-se và Ép-ra-im. Người Lê-vi không nhận được phần đất nào nhưng chỉ được các thành để cư trú và các đồng cỏ cho bầy bò bầy chiên của họ.
5Vậy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên chia đất đúng như CHÚA đã truyền bảo Môi-se.
Ca-lép Được Đất Hếp-rôn
6Lúc ấy, người Giu-đa đến gần Giô-suê tại Ghinh-ganh, và Ca-lép, con trai Giê-phu-nê, người Kê-nít nói: “Ông biết điều CHÚA đã phán về tôi và về ông qua Môi-se, người của Đức Chúa Trời, tại Ca-đê Ba-nê-a.
7Khi Môi-se, đầy tớ của CHÚA, ở Ca-đê Ba-nê-a sai tôi đi thám sát đất nước này, tôi được bốn mươi tuổi. Tôi trở về báo cáo cách trung thực đúng theo lòng tôi,
8nhưng các anh em tôi là những người cùng đi với tôi đã làm cho lòng dân rã rời chán nản. Tuy nhiên, tôi đã hết lòng theo CHÚA, là Đức Chúa Trời tôi.
9Hôm ấy, Môi-se đã thề với tôi: ‘Vùng đất nào bàn chân ngươi đạp đến sẽ là cơ nghiệp của ngươi và con cháu ngươi đời đời, vì ngươi đã hết lòng theo CHÚA là Đức Chúa Trời ta.’
10Đúng như lời CHÚA đã phán hứa, Ngài đã gìn giữ tôi còn sống suốt bốn mươi lăm năm từ lúc Ngài phán dạy Môi-se điều ấy suốt thời gian Y-sơ-ra-ên lưu lạc trong sa mạc; CHÚA đã bảo tồn mạng sống tôi cho đến bây giờ, và ngày nay tôi được tám mươi lăm tuổi.
11Ngày nay tôi vẫn còn mạnh khỏe như ngày Môi-se sai tôi ra đi; tôi vẫn còn tràn đầy sinh lực xung phong ra trận như ngày trước.
12Bây giờ xin ông cấp cho tôi xứ đầy đồi núi này mà CHÚA đã hứa ban cho tôi hôm ấy. Chính ông đã nghe báo cáo rằng dân khổng lồ A-na-kim vẫn còn ở đó, và các thành của họ đều rộng lớn và kiên cố, nhưng nhờ CHÚA giúp đỡ, tôi sẽ đánh đuổi chúng ra như Ngài đã phán.”
13Giô-suê bèn chúc phước cho Ca-lép, con trai Giê-phu-rê, và cấp cho ông miền Hếp-rôn làm cơ nghiệp.
14Vậy, Hếp-rôn thuộc quyền sở hữu của Ca-lép, con trai Giê-phu-nê, người Kê-nít, từ đó đến nay, vì người đã hết lòng theo CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên.
15(Hếp-rôn vốn được gọi là Ki-ri-át A-ra-ba, theo tên của A-ra-ba, là người khổng lồ nổi danh nhất trong vòng người A-na-kim).
Từ đó, đất nước được thái bình, không còn chiến tranh.
