The Tragic End of Saul and His Sons
1Now ⚓the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell slain on Mount ⚓Gilboa.
2Then the Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons. And the Philistines killed ⚓Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons.
3⚓The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him, and he was severely wounded by the archers.
4⚓Then Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest ⚓these uncircumcised men come and thrust me through and abuse me.”
But his armorbearer would not, ⚓for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and ⚓fell on it.
5And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword, and died with him.
6So Saul, his three sons, his armorbearer, and all his men died together that same day.
7And when the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, and those who were on the other side of the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8So it happened the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9And they cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and sent word throughout the land of the Philistines, to ⚓proclaim it in the temple of their idols and among the people.
10⚓Then they put his armor in the temple of the ⚓Ashtoreths, and ⚓they fastened his body to the wall of ⚓Beth Shan.
11⚓Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
12⚓all the valiant men arose and traveled all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth Shan; and they came to Jabesh and ⚓burned them there.
13Then they took their bones and ⚓buried them under the tamarisk tree at ⚓Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

Cái chết của Sau-lơ
1Quân Phi-li-tin lại đánh dân Ít-ra-en. Người Ít-ra-en chạy trốn trước mặt họ. Nhiều người Ít-ra-en bị giết trên núi Ghinh-bô-a.
2Quân Phi-li-tin tấn công Sau-lơ và các con ông dữ dội. Họ giết các con ông là Giô-na-than, A-bi-na-đáp, và Manh-ki-sua.
3Trận chiến diễn ra vô cùng khốc liệt quanh Sau-lơ. Các lính cầm cung bắn trúng ông khiến ông bị thương nặng.
4Ông bảo viên sĩ quan mang áo giáp mình rằng, “Hãy rút gươm ngươi và giết ta đi. Ta không muốn bọn không chịu cắt dương bì chế diễu và giết ta.” Nhưng viên sĩ quan đó sợ không dám làm. Cho nên Sau-lơ rút gươm ra và đè người trên mũi gươm rồi chết.
5Khi viên sĩ quan thấy Sau-lơ chết thì cũng lấy gươm và đè người trên mũi gươm chết theo Sau-lơ.
6Vậy Sau-lơ, ba con trai, và viên sĩ quan vác áo giáp của ông cùng chết trong ngày đó.

7Khi dân Ít-ra-en ở đối ngang thung lũng Ghít-rê-ên và những người ở đối ngang sông Giô-đanh thấy đạo quân Ít-ra-en đã bỏ chạy, còn Sau-lơ và các con ông đã chết thì họ cũng bỏ thành chạy trốn. Rồi người Phi-li-tin vào ở trong các thành đó.
8Hôm sau quân Phi-li-tin trở lại lượm các vật quí giá từ các xác chết thì chúng thấy Sau-lơ và ba con trai ông chết trên núi Ghinh-bô-a.
9Chúng cắt đầu Sau-lơ và tháo áo giáp ông ra. Rồi chúng sai sứ giả đi khắp xứ Phi-li-tin loan tin trong đền thờ các thần của chúng và cho dân chúng hay.
10Chúng để áo giáp Sau-lơ trong đền thờ thần Át-tô-rết và treo xác ông trên tường thành Bết-San⚓.
11Khi dân Gia-be Ghi-lê-át nghe việc người Phi-li-tin làm cho Sau-lơ,
12thì các dũng sĩ Gia-be đi trọn đêm đến Bết-San. Họ gỡ xác Sau-lơ và các con trai ông khỏi tường thành Bết-San và mang về Gia-be rồi hỏa thiêu các xác đó.
13Họ lấy xương các người đó đem chôn dưới gốc cây me ở Gia-be. Sau đó dân Gia-be cữ ăn bảy ngày.
