Vision of the Locusts

¹Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, He formed locust swarms at the beginning of the late crop; indeed it was the late crop after the king’s mowings. ²And so it was, when they had finished eating the grass of the land, that I said:
“O Lord God, forgive, I pray!
⚓Oh, that Jacob may stand,
For he is small!”
³So⚓the Lord relented concerning this.
“It shall not be,” said the Lord.

Vision of the Fire

⁴Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, the Lord God called for conflict by fire, and it consumed the great deep and devoured the territory. ⁵Then I said:
“O Lord God, cease, I pray!
⚓Oh, that Jacob may stand,
For he is small!”
⁶So the Lord relented concerning this.
“This also shall not be,” said the Lord God.

Vision of the Plumb Line

⁷Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord stood on a wall made with a plumb line, with a plumb line in His hand. ⁸And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?”
And I said, “A plumb line.”
Then the Lord said:
“Behold, ⚓I am setting a plumb line
In the midst of My people Israel;
⚓I will not pass by them anymore.
⁹⚓The high places of Isaac shall be desolate,
And the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste.
⚓I will rise with the sword against the house of Jeroboam.”

Amaziah’s Complaint

¹⁰Then Amaziah the ⚓priest of ⚓Bethel sent to ⚓Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words. ¹¹For thus Amos has said:
‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
And Israel shall surely be led away ⚓captive
From their own land.’ ”
¹²Then Amaziah said to Amos:
“Go, you seer!
Flee to the land of Judah.
There eat bread,
And there prophesy.
¹³But ⚓never again prophesy at Bethel,
⚓For it is the king’s sanctuary,
And it is the royal residence.”
¹⁴Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah:
“I was no prophet,
Nor was I ⚓a son of a prophet,
But I was a ⚓sheepbreeder
And a tender of sycamore fruit.
¹⁵Then the Lord took me as I followed the flock,
And the Lord said to me,
‘Go, ⚓prophesy to My people Israel.’
¹⁶Now therefore, hear the word of the Lord:
You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel,
And ⚓do not spout against the house of Isaac.’
¹⁷“Therefore⚓ thus says the Lord:
⚓‘Your wife shall be a harlot in the city;
Your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword;
Your land shall be divided by survey line;
You shall die in a ⚓defiled land;
And Israel shall surely be led away captive
From his own land.’ ”

Nạn cào cào

¹Chúa cho tôi thấy một khải tượng: Chúa đang chuẩn bị một đạo quân cào cào đông đảo để tàn phá hoa mầu sinh ra sau mùa gặt thứ nhất (dành cho nhà vua). ²Sau khi cào cào ăn hết ngũ cốc và cỏ xanh trong xứ, tôi cầu nguyện khẩn thiết: "Thưa Chúa là Chân Thần, con van xin Ngài! Xin tha tội cho dân tộc con! Nước con⚓ quá nhỏ, làm sao chịu đựng nổi cuộc đoán phạt này!" ³Chúa liền đổi ý, phán rằng: "Ta sẽ không giáng tai họa ấy!"

Ngọn lửa kinh hồn

⁴Chúa cho tôi thấy một ngọn lửa lớn cháy phừng lên để đoán phạt dân Ta. Lửa đã làm cạn các dòng sông⚓ và bắt đầu đốt tan cả đất nước. ⁵Tôi liền cầu nguyện: Thưa Chúa là Chân Thần, con van xin Ngài. Xin Chúa ngừng tay! Nước con⚓ quá nhỏ, làm sao chịu đựng nổi cuộc đoán phạt này!" ⁶Chúa liền đổi ý, phán rằng: "Ta sẽ không giáng tai họa ấy!"

Dây chì

⁷Chúa lại cho tôi thấy một khải tượng khác: Chúa đứng trên một bức tường thẳng đứng, tay cầm dây chì, ⁸Chúa hỏi: "A-mốt, con thấy gì?" Tôi thưa: "Con thấy Chúa cầm dây chì." Chúa tiếp: "Này, Ta đặt một dây chì giữa dân Ta là dân Y-sơ-ra-ên. Ta không dung thứ nó được nữa, phải đoán phạt. ⁹Các bàn thờ tế lễ trên các đỉnh núi đồi của Y-sác bị phá tan, các đền miễu của Y-sơ-ra-ên sẽ bị tiêu diệt và Ta vùng dậy chống đánh và lật đổ triều đại của vua Giê-rô-bô-am trong cuộc chiến tranh"⚓
¹⁰A-ma-xia, thầy tế lễ của thành phố Bê-tên, nghe A-mốt truyền bá lời Chúa, liền báo cáo với vua Giê-rô-bô-am: "A-mốt là một tên phản quốc; nó đang âm mưu ám sát đức vua! Không thể nào dung túng được nữa. Nó sẽ xúi toàn dân nổi loạn. ¹¹Nó dám bảo đức vua sẽ bị giết và nhân dân sẽ bị lưu đày đi xa!"
¹²A-ma-xia lại sai thủ hạ đến dọa A-mốt: "Này, ông tiên tri gàn! Cút đi cho khuất mắt! Cứ trốn qua xứ Giu-đa mà nói tiên tri! ¹³Đừng ở đây mà lải nhải những khải tượng chướng tai! Vì đây là trung tâm tôn giáo của đất nước, là lãnh thổ Đền thờ của đức vua!
¹⁴Nhưng A-mốt đáp: "Thật ra, tôi vốn không phải là tiên tri, cũng không phải con nhà tiên tri. Tôi chỉ là một kẻ chăn cừu và tỉa sung.⚓ ¹⁵Nhưng Chúa đã bắt tôi ra khỏi bầy cừu và bảo tôi: "Hãy đi nói tiên tri cho dân tộc Y-sơ-ra-ên! ¹⁶Bây giờ ông hãy nghe lời Chúa phán! Vì ông bảo: "Đừng nói tiên tri nghịch vói dân Y-sơ-ra-ên," ¹⁷nên Chúa đáp: "Này, vợ ngươi sẽ trở thành gái mãi dâm trong thành phố này, con trai, con gái ngươi sẽ bị tàn sát; đất ruộng ngươi sẽ bị người ta cướp đoạt để chia nhau. Chính ngươi sẽ chết tại đất khách quê người; nhân dân Y-sơ-ra-ên sẽ bị lưu đày đi xa."
