Christ Born of Mary

¹And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. ²⚓This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. ³So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
⁴Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to ⚓the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, ⚓because he was of the house and lineage of David, ⁵to be registered with Mary, ⚓his betrothed wife, who was with child. ⁶So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. ⁷And ⚓she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Glory in the Highest

⁸Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. ⁹And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, ⚓and they were greatly afraid. ¹⁰Then the angel said to them, ⚓“Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy ⚓which will be to all people. ¹¹⚓For there is born to you this day in the city of David ⚓a Savior, ⚓who is Christ the Lord. ¹²And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
¹³⚓And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
¹⁴“Glory⚓ to God in the highest,
And on earth ⚓peace, ⚓goodwill toward men!”
¹⁵So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” ¹⁶And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. ¹⁷Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. ¹⁸And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. ¹⁹⚓But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. ²⁰Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and ⚓praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.

Circumcision of Jesus

²¹⚓And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called ⚓Jesus, the name given by the angel ⚓before He was conceived in the womb.

Jesus Presented in the Temple

²²Now when ⚓the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord ²³⚓(as it is written in the law of the Lord, ⚓“Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the LORD”), ²⁴and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, ⚓“A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”

Simeon Sees God’s Salvation

²⁵And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, ⚓waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. ²⁶And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not ⚓see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. ²⁷So he came ⚓by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, ²⁸he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:
²⁹“Lord, ⚓now You are letting Your servant depart in peace,
According to Your word;
³⁰For my eyes ⚓have seen Your salvation
³¹Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
³²⚓A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”
³³And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him. ³⁴Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the ⚓fall and rising of many in Israel, and for ⚓a sign which will be spoken against ³⁵(yes, ⚓a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

Anna Bears Witness to the Redeemer

³⁶Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of ⚓Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; ³⁷and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers ⚓night and day. ³⁸And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who ⚓looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

The Family Returns to Nazareth

³⁹So when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. ⁴⁰⚓And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

The Boy Jesus Amazes the Scholars

⁴¹His parents went to ⚓Jerusalem ⚓every year at the Feast of the Passover. ⁴²And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the ⚓custom of the feast. ⁴³When they had finished the ⚓days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it; ⁴⁴but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. ⁴⁵So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. ⁴⁶Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. ⁴⁷And ⚓all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. ⁴⁸So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”
⁴⁹And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be ⚓about ⚓My Father’s business?” ⁵⁰But ⚓they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.

Jesus Advances in Wisdom and Favor

⁵¹Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother ⚓kept all these things in her heart. ⁵²And Jesus ⚓increased in wisdom and stature, ⚓and in favor with God and men.

Đức Chúa Jêsus giáng sinh

(Ma-thi-ơ 1:18-25)

¹Lúc ấy, Sê-sa Au-gút-tơ ra chiếu chỉ kiểm tra dân số trong khắp thiên hạ. ²Đây là cuộc kiểm tra đầu tiên được thực hiện trong thời Qui-ri-ni-u làm tổng đốc xứ Sy-ri. ³Mọi người đều phải trở về nguyên quán để đăng ký. ⁴Vì Giô-sép là dòng dõi nhà Đa-vít nên cũng từ thành Na-xa-rét, miền Ga-li-lê, lên thành Đa-vít, gọi là Bết-lê-hem, thuộc xứ Giu-đê, ⁵để đăng ký tên mình và tên Ma-ri, người đã đính hôn với mình, đang có thai. ⁶Đang khi hai người ở nơi đó thì ngày sinh nở của Ma-ri đã đến. ⁷Nàng sinh con trai đầu lòng, lấy khăn bọc con mình đặt nằm trong máng cỏ, vì quán trọ không còn chỗ cho họ. ⁸Cũng trong vùng ấy, có mấy người chăn chiên trú ngoài đồng, thức đêm canh giữ bầy chiên. ⁹Một thiên sứ của Chúa hiện đến với họ, vinh quang của Chúa chói rạng chung quanh nên họ rất sợ hãi. ¹⁰Nhưng thiên sứ bảo họ: “Đừng sợ! Nầy, ta báo cho các ngươi một tin lành, đây sẽ là niềm vui lớn cho mọi người. ¹¹Vì hôm nay tại thành Đa-vít, một Đấng Cứu Thế, là Đấng Christ,⚓ là Chúa đã được sinh ra cho các ngươi. ¹²Đây là dấu hiệu để các ngươi nhận ra Ngài: Các ngươi sẽ gặp một con trẻ bọc bằng khăn nằm trong máng cỏ.” ¹³Bỗng nhiên, có muôn vàn thiên binh cùng với thiên sứ ấy ngợi ca Đức Chúa Trời rằng:
¹⁴“Vinh danh Thiên Chúa trên trời,
Bình an dưới đất, ân ban cho người!”
¹⁵Sau khi các thiên sứ lìa họ lên trời rồi, các người chăn chiên nói với nhau rằng: “Chúng ta hãy đi đến thành Bết-lê-hem xem việc đã xảy ra mà Chúa cho chúng ta biết.” ¹⁶Vậy, họ vội vàng đi đến đó, gặp Ma-ri, Giô-sép, và thấy con trẻ đang nằm trong máng cỏ. ¹⁷Khi thấy vậy, họ liền thuật lại những lời thiên sứ nói về con trẻ đó. ¹⁸Ai nghe chuyện các người chăn chiên kể cũng đều ngạc nhiên. ¹⁹Còn Ma-ri thì ghi tạc mọi lời ấy và suy ngẫm trong lòng. ²⁰Các người chăn chiên trở về, tôn vinh và ngợi ca Đức Chúa Trời về mọi điều họ đã nghe và thấy, đúng như lời đã bảo trước với họ.
²¹Khi được trọn tám ngày, lúc phải cắt bì cho con trẻ, thì họ đặt tên là Jêsus, là tên thiên sứ đã đặt trước khi con trẻ được thai dựng trong bụng mẹ.⚓

Lễ dâng Chúa nơi đền thờ

²²Khi những ngày thanh tẩy theo luật Môi-se đã mãn, cha mẹ đem con trẻ lên thành Giê-ru-sa-lem để dâng cho Chúa, ²³như đã chép trong luật pháp của Chúa rằng: “Mọi con trai đầu lòng phải biệt ra thánh cho Chúa”, ⚓ ²⁴và dâng một cặp chim gáy, hoặc chim bồ câu con, như luật pháp của Chúa đã truyền. ⚓

Bài ca của Si-mê-ôn. – Nữ tiên tri An-ne

²⁵Lúc ấy, tại thành Giê-ru-sa-lem có một người công chính và đạo đức, tên là Si-mê-ôn. Ông trông đợi sự an ủi của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, và Đức Thánh Linh ngự trên ông. ²⁶Đức Thánh Linh đã cho ông biết trước rằng ông sẽ không chết trước khi thấy Đấng Christ của Chúa. ²⁷Được Thánh Linh cảm thúc, ông vào đền thờ đúng lúc cha mẹ đem con trẻ là Jêsus đến để làm cho Ngài các thủ tục theo luật pháp. ²⁸Ông bồng ẵm con trẻ và ca ngợi Đức Chúa Trời rằng:
²⁹“Lạy Chúa, bây giờ xin Chúa cho đầy tớ Chúa qua đời bình an,
Theo như lời Ngài;
³⁰Vì mắt con đã thấy sự cứu rỗi của Ngài,
³¹Mà Ngài đã chuẩn bị trước mặt muôn dân,
³²Là ánh sáng soi đường cho các dân ngoại,⚓
Và là vinh quang của Y-sơ-ra-ên, tức dân Ngài.”
³³Cha mẹ con trẻ ngạc nhiên về những lời Si-mê-ôn nói về con trẻ. ³⁴Si-mê-ôn chúc phước cho hai vợ chồng và nói với Ma-ri, mẹ con trẻ rằng: “Con trẻ nầy đã được chỉ định để làm cho nhiều người trong Y-sơ-ra-ên vấp ngã hoặc trỗi dậy, và là một dấu hiệu gây nên sự chống đối. ³⁵Còn cô, một thanh gươm cũng sẽ đâm thấu tâm hồn cô, để tư tưởng sâu kín của nhiều người phải lộ ra.”
³⁶Cũng có nữ tiên tri An-ne, con gái của Pha-nu-ên, về bộ tộc A-se, tuổi đã cao. Sau khi kết hôn, bà đã sống với chồng được bảy năm, ³⁷rồi ở góa, đến nay đã tám mươi bốn tuổi. Bà chẳng hề rời khỏi đền thờ, cứ đêm ngày phục vụ Chúa, kiêng ăn và cầu nguyện. ³⁸Vào giờ ấy, bà cũng đến đó, ca ngợi Đức Chúa Trời và nói về con trẻ cho mọi người đang trông đợi sự giải cứu thành Giê-ru-sa-lem.
³⁹Khi đã hoàn tất mọi việc theo luật pháp của Chúa, Giô-sép và Ma-ri trở về thành của mình là Na-xa-rét thuộc miền Ga-li-lê.⚓ ⁴⁰Con trẻ lớn lên và mạnh mẽ; đầy dẫy sự khôn ngoan, và ân điển⚓ của Đức Chúa Trời ở trên Ngài.

Đức Chúa Jêsus lúc mười hai tuổi

⁴¹Hằng năm đến kỳ lễ Vượt Qua, cha mẹ Đức Chúa Jêsus thường đi lên thành Giê-ru-sa-lem.⚓ ⁴²Khi được mười hai tuổi, Ngài cùng cha mẹ đi lên đó dự lễ theo thường lệ. ⁴³Khi các ngày lễ qua rồi, cha mẹ trở về, nhưng cậu bé Jêsus ở lại thành Giê-ru-sa-lem mà cha mẹ Ngài không hay biết. ⁴⁴Họ cứ tưởng là Ngài cùng đi trong đoàn lữ hành, nên sau một ngày đường mới tìm kiếm Ngài trong số bà con và những người quen biết. ⁴⁵Khi không thấy Ngài, ông bà liền trở lại thành Giê-ru-sa-lem để tìm. ⁴⁶Sau ba ngày, họ gặp Ngài trong đền thờ đang ngồi giữa các giáo sư Do Thái giáo, vừa nghe vừa hỏi. ⁴⁷Tất cả những người nghe Ngài đều kinh ngạc về sự hiểu biết và những lời đối đáp của Ngài. ⁴⁸Khi cha mẹ thấy Ngài, thì kinh ngạc và mẹ Ngài nói với Ngài: “Hỡi con, sao con làm cho hai ta ra nông nỗi nầy? Cha con và mẹ đã lo lắng tìm con!” ⁴⁹Ngài thưa: “Sao cha mẹ lại tìm kiếm con? Cha mẹ không biết rằng con phải lo việc Cha con sao?”⚓ ⁵⁰Nhưng hai người không hiểu lời Ngài vừa nói. ⁵¹Ngài đi theo cha mẹ trở về Na-xa-rét và phục tùng họ. Mẹ Ngài ghi khắc mọi lời ấy trong lòng.
⁵²Đức Chúa Jêsus khôn ngoan càng thêm, thân hình càng lớn, càng được đẹp lòng Đức Chúa Trời và người ta.⚓
