Rô-bô-am từ bỏ luật pháp của Đức Chúa Trời. – Si-sắc xâm lăng nước Giu-đa
(I Vua 14:25-28)
5Nhà tiên tri Sê-ma-gia đến gặp Rô-bô-am và các nhà lãnh đạo Giu-đa đang tập trung tại Giê-ru-sa-lem để trốn khỏi Si-sắc. Ông nói với họ: “Đức Giê-hô-va phán: ‘Các ngươi đã lìa bỏ Ta nên Ta phó các ngươi vào tay Si-sắc.’”
6Bấy giờ, các nhà lãnh đạo của Y-sơ-ra-ên và vua đều hạ mình xuống mà nói rằng: “Đức Giê-hô-va là công chính.”
7Khi Đức Giê-hô-va thấy họ hạ mình xuống thì có lời Đức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Sê-ma-gia rằng: “Chúng đã hạ mình xuống nên Ta sẽ không tiêu diệt chúng, nhưng sẽ giải cứu chúng một phần; và Ta sẽ không dùng tay Si-sắc mà trút cơn thịnh nộ của Ta trên Giê-ru-sa-lem.
8Tuy nhiên, chúng sẽ phải phục dịch hắn để biết thế nào là phục vụ Ta và thế nào là phục dịch các nước khác.”
9Si-sắc, vua Ai Cập, kéo lên đánh Giê-ru-sa-lem, chiếm đoạt các báu vật trong đền thờ Đức Giê-hô-va và trong cung vua. Vua ấy cướp sạch các báu vật, kể cả những khiên bằng vàng mà Sa-lô-môn đã làm.⚓
10Vua Rô-bô-am làm các khiên bằng đồng để thay thế, và giao cho các quan chỉ huy thị vệ canh giữ cửa hoàng cung.
11Mỗi khi vua vào trong đền thờ Đức Giê-hô-va thì quân thị vệ mang các khiên ấy ra, rồi sau đó đem cất lại trong kho của quân thị vệ.
12Vì Rô-bô-am hạ mình xuống, nên cơn thịnh nộ của Đức Giê-hô-va quay khỏi vua và vua không bị tiêu diệt hoàn toàn; và Giu-đa cũng còn hưởng những điều tốt lành.
Rô-bô-am qua đời
13Vua Rô-bô-am củng cố được ngai vàng và trị vì tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Khi lên ngôi, Rô-bô-am được bốn mươi mốt tuổi; vua cai trị mười bảy năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, tức là thành mà Đức Giê-hô-va đã chọn trong các bộ tộc Y-sơ-ra-ên để đặt danh Ngài tại đó. Mẹ vua tên là Na-a-ma, người Am-môn.
14Rô-bô-am làm điều ác vì không hết lòng tìm cầu Đức Giê-hô-va.
15Các việc của Rô-bô-am đã làm từ đầu đến cuối đều được chép trong sách của nhà tiên tri Sê-ma-gia và nhà tiên kiến Y-đô theo cách chép gia phả. Rô-bô-am và Giê-rô-bô-am luôn giao tranh với nhau.
16Rô-bô-am an giấc cùng tổ phụ mình và được an táng trong thành Đa-vít. Con vua là A-bi-gia lên kế vị.

Egypt Attacks Judah
1Now ⚓it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom and had strengthened himself, that ⚓he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel along with him.
2⚓And it happened in the fifth year of King Rehoboam that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the Lord,
3with twelve hundred chariots, sixty thousand horsemen, and people without number who came with him out of Egypt—⚓the Lubim and the Sukkiim and the Ethiopians.
4And he took the fortified cities of Judah and came to Jerusalem.
5Then ⚓Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah, who were gathered together in Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said to them, “Thus says the Lord: ‘You have forsaken Me, and therefore I also have left you in the hand of Shishak.’ ”
6So the leaders of Israel and the king ⚓humbled themselves; and they said, ⚓“The Lordis righteous.”
7Now when the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, ⚓the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance. My wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
8Nevertheless ⚓they will be his servants, that they may distinguish ⚓My service from the service of the kingdoms of the nations.”
9⚓So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house; he took everything. He also carried away the gold shields which Solomon had ⚓made.
10Then King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place, and committed them⚓to the hands of the captains of the guard, who guarded the doorway of the king’s house.
11And whenever the king entered the house of the Lord, the guard would go and bring them out; then they would take them back into the guardroom.
12When he humbled himself, the wrath of the Lord turned from him, so as not to destroy him completely; and things also went well in Judah.
The End of Rehoboam’s Reign
13Thus King Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem and reigned. Now ⚓Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he became king; and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, ⚓the city which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put His name there. His mother’s name was Naamah, an ⚓Ammonitess.
14And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.
15The acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, ⚓and of Iddo the seer concerning genealogies? ⚓And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days.
16So Rehoboam rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David. Then ⚓Abijah his son reigned in his place.
