Sắm sửa cất đền thờ

¹ Vả, Sa-lô-môn định cất một cái đền cho danh Đức Giê-hô-va, và một cái cung cho nước mình. ² Sa-lô-môn bèn lựa bảy vạn người bưng gánh, tám vạn người thợ đẽo đá trên núi, và ba ngàn sáu trăm người đốc công.
³ Sa-lô-môn sai đến Hi-ram, vua Ty-rơ, mà nói rằng: Vua đã hậu đãi Đa-vít, cha tôi, cung cấp cây bá hương cho người đặng cất cái cung để người ở; xin vua cũng hãy đãi tôi như thế. ⁴ Nầy tôi toan cất một đền cho danh Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời tôi, biệt đền ấy riêng ra thánh cho Ngài, đặng xông nhũ hương trước mặt Ngài, bày bánh trần thiết luôn luôn, dâng của lễ thiêu về buổi sáng và về buổi chiều, hoặc trong ngày sa-bát, ngày mồng một, hay là trong những ngày lễ định của Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời chúng tôi; điều đó vốn là một lệ định cho Y-sơ-ra-ên đến đời đời. ⁵ Đức Chúa Trời chúng tôi vốn cao sang, vượt qua hết các thần; nên cái đền tôi toan cất sẽ nguy nga. ⁶ Chớ thì ai có sức xây cất cho Chúa một cái đền; vì trời và đến đỗi trời của các từng trời còn chẳng chứa Ngài được thay! Vậy tôi là ai, mà cất được một cái đền cho Chúa? Cất nó chẳng qua là để xông hương tại trước mặt Ngài đó thôi.⚓ ⁷ Vậy bây giờ, vua hãy sai đến cùng tôi một người giỏi về nghề chế đồ vàng, bạc, đồng, sắt, thạo dệt bằng chỉ tím, đỏ và xanh, cùng biết chạm trổ đủ nghề, để làm việc với những người tài giỏi ở bên tôi, tại Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem, mà Đa-vít, cha tôi, đã sắm sẵn. ⁸ Cũng hãy lấy ở Li-ban gỗ bá hương, gỗ tòng, và gỗ bạch đàn hương mà gởi đến cho tôi; vì tôi vẫn biết rằng các tôi tớ vua đều thạo đốn cây trên Li-ban; nầy các tôi tớ tôi cũng sẽ giúp đỡ các tôi tớ vua, ⁹ đặng lo đốn sắm sửa cây gỗ cho nhiều; vì cái đền mà tôi toan cất sẽ nguy nga lạ kỳ. ¹⁰ Tôi sẽ cấp cho các tôi tớ vua, là những kẻ đốn cây, hai vạn cô-rơ⚓ lúa miến giã rồi, hai vạn cô-rơ lúa mạch, hai vạn bát⚓ rượu, và hai vạn bát dầu.
¹¹ Hi-ram, vua Ty-rơ, bèn viết thơ gởi cho Sa-lô-môn, mà rằng: Vì cớ Đức Giê-hô-va yêu thương dân sự mình, nên Ngài đã lập vua làm vua trên chúng. ¹² Hi-ram lại nói: Ngợi khen Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, là Đấng dựng nên trời đất, vì Ngài đã ban cho vua Đa-vít một con trai khôn ngoan, dẽ dặt, thông minh, để cất một cái đền cho Ngài và một cái cung cho nước người. ¹³ Bây giờ, tôi sai đến cho vua một người khéo, có trí thông sáng, là Hu-ram-A-bi, ¹⁴ con trai của người đàn bà về chi phái Đan, cha người là dân Ty-rơ; người giỏi về nghề chế đồ vàng, bạc, đồng, sắt, đá, và gỗ, thạo dệt chỉ tím, xanh, và đỏ sậm, cùng chỉ gai trắng xe mịn, cũng biết làm các thứ chạm trổ, và tạo ra đủ thứ vật xảo mà người ta sẽ biểu nó làm. Nó sẽ làm việc với những thợ khéo của thân phụ vua là Đa-vít chúa tôi. ¹⁵ Vậy bây giờ xin chúa tôi hãy gởi cho các tôi tớ chúa lúa miến, lúa mạch, dầu, và rượu, mà chúa tôi đã nói đến; ¹⁶ còn chúng tôi sẽ đốn gỗ tại trên Li-ban theo số bao nhiêu vua cần dùng, rồi kết thành bè đem ra biển đến Gia-phô; đoạn vua sẽ chở lên Giê-ru-sa-lem.
¹⁷ Sa-lô-môn bèn điểm soát các người ngoại quốc ở trong nước Y-sơ-ra-ên, tùy theo số Đa-vít, cha người, đã điểm soát; thấy được mười lăm vạn ba ngàn sáu trăm người. ¹⁸ Trong số đó người đặt bảy vạn người làm kẻ khiêng gánh, tám vạn người đẽo đá trên núi, và ba ngàn sáu trăm người đốc công, đặng sai khiến dân chúng làm việc.

Solomon Prepares to Build the Temple

¹Then Solomon ⚓determined to build a temple for the name of the Lord, and a royal house for himself. ²⚓Solomon selected seventy thousand men to bear burdens, eighty thousand to quarry stone in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them.
³Then Solomon sent to Hiram king of Tyre, saying:
⚓As you have dealt with David my father, and sent him cedars to build himself a house to dwell in, so deal with me. ⁴Behold, ⚓I am building a temple for the name of the Lord my God, to dedicate it to Him, ⚓to burn before Him sweet incense, for ⚓the continual showbread, for ⚓the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the ⚓Sabbaths, on the New Moons, and on the set feasts of the Lord our God. This is an ordinance forever to Israel.
⁵And the temple which I build will be great, for ⚓our God is greater than all gods. ⁶⚓But who is able to build Him a temple, since heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him? Who am I then, that I should build Him a temple, except to burn sacrifice before Him?
⁷Therefore send me at once a man skillful to work in gold and silver, in bronze and iron, in purple and crimson and blue, who has skill to engrave with the skillful men who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, ⚓whom David my father provided. ⁸⚓Also send me cedar and cypress and algum logs from Lebanon, for I know that your servants have skill to cut timber in Lebanon; and indeed my servants will be with your servants, ⁹to prepare timber for me in abundance, for the temple which I am about to build shall be great and wonderful.
¹⁰⚓And indeed I will give to your servants, the woodsmen who cut timber, twenty thousand kors of ground wheat, twenty thousand kors of barley, twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.
¹¹Then Hiram king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon:
⚓Because the Lord loves His people, He has made you king over them.
¹²Hiram also said:
⚓Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, ⚓who made heaven and earth, for He has given King David a wise son, endowed with prudence and understanding, who will build a temple for the Lord and a royal house for himself!
¹³And now I have sent a skillful man, endowed with understanding, Huram my master craftsman ¹⁴⚓(the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre), skilled to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple and blue, fine linen and crimson, and to make any engraving and to accomplish any plan which may be given to him, with your skillful men and with the skillful men of my lord David your father.
¹⁵Now therefore, the wheat, the barley, the oil, and the wine which ⚓my lord has spoken of, let him send to his servants. ¹⁶⚓And we will cut wood from Lebanon, as much as you need; we will bring it to you in rafts by sea to Joppa, and you will carry it up to Jerusalem.
¹⁷⚓Then Solomon numbered all the aliens who were in the land of Israel, after the census in which ⚓David his father had numbered them; and there were found to be one hundred and fifty-three thousand six hundred. ¹⁸And he made ⚓seventy thousand of them bearers of burdens, eighty thousand stonecutters in the mountain, and three thousand six hundred overseers to make the people work.
