Thiết lập và thánh hóa ngày thứ bảy
1Như vậy, trời đất và muôn vật đã được sáng tạo xong.
2Ngày thứ bảy, Đức Chúa Trời hoàn tất các công việc Ngài đã làm. Vì thế, vào ngày thứ bảy Ngài nghỉ. Ngài đã làm xong mọi công việc.⚓⚓
3Ngài ban phước cho ngày thứ bảy và thánh hóa ngày đó, vì vào ngày đó Ngài nghỉ sau khi đã làm xong mọi công việc sáng tạo.
4Đó là gốc tích sáng tạo trời và đất.
Vườn Ê-đen
Khi Giê-hô-va⚓ Đức Chúa Trời làm nên trời và đất,
5thì trên đất chưa có bụi cây nào mọc ngoài đồng và cũng chưa có ngọn cỏ nào mọc trong ruộng, vì Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời chưa cho mưa xuống đất, và cũng chưa có người cày xới đất đai.
6Nhưng có hơi nước từ dưới đất bốc lên, tưới khắp mặt đất.
7Bấy giờ, Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời lấy bụi đất nắn nên hình người,⚓ hà sinh khí vào lỗ mũi, thì người trở nên một sinh linh.⚓
8Sau đó, Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời lập một khu vườn tại Ê-đen, ở hướng đông, và đặt người mà Ngài vừa dựng nên ở đó.
9Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời khiến đất mọc lên các thứ cây đẹp mắt và ăn ngon. Giữa vườn có cây sự sống⚓ và cây biết điều thiện, điều ác.⚓
10Một dòng sông từ Ê-đen chảy ra để tưới vườn, và từ đó chia thành bốn nhánh.
11Nhánh thứ nhất là Bi-sôn, nhánh nầy chảy quanh vùng đất Ha-vi-la, là nơi có vàng.
12Vàng ở vùng nầy rất tốt; ở đó còn có nhũ hương và bích ngọc.
13Nhánh sông thứ nhì tên là Ghi-hôn, chảy quanh vùng đất Cút.⚓
14Nhánh sông thứ ba tên là Ti-gơ-rít,⚓ chảy về phía đông lãnh thổ A-si-ri. Còn nhánh sông thứ tư là sông Ơ-phơ-rát.
15Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời đem con người vào trong vườn Ê-đen để canh tác và gìn giữ vườn.
16Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời truyền phán với con người rằng: “Con được tự do ăn hoa quả các thứ cây trong vườn,
17nhưng về trái của cây biết điều thiện và điều ác thì con không được ăn, vì ngày nào con ăn trái cây đó, chắc chắn con sẽ chết.”
Thiết lập hôn nhân
18Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời phán: “Con người ở một mình thì không tốt. Ta sẽ tạo nên một người giúp đỡ thích hợp với nó.”
19Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời lấy đất nắn nên mọi loài thú đồng và chim trời, rồi đưa đến trước mặt con người để xem con người đặt tên chúng là gì, và bất cứ tên nào con người đặt cho mỗi sinh vật đều thành tên riêng của nó.
20A-đam⚓ đặt tên cho mọi loài gia súc và chim trời cùng mọi loài thú rừng; nhưng phần A-đam thì chẳng tìm được một ai giúp đỡ thích hợp với mình.
21Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời khiến cho A-đam ngủ mê, và lấy đi một xương sườn, rồi lấp thịt thế vào.
22Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời dùng chiếc xương sườn đã lấy từ A-đam dựng nên một người nữ và đưa đến cho A-đam.
23A-đam nói:
“Bây giờ mới có người nầy,
Là xương bởi xương tôi, thịt bởi thịt tôi.
Nàng sẽ được gọi là người nữ,
Vì từ người nam mà có.”⚓
24Bởi vậy, người nam sẽ lìa cha mẹ mà gắn bó với vợ mình, và cả hai trở nên một thịt.⚓
25A-đam và vợ, cả hai đều trần truồng nhưng không thấy ngượng ngùng.

1Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
2By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
3Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Adam and Eve
4This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.
5Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth⚓ and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground,
6but streams⚓ came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
7Then the Lord God formed a man⚓ from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
8Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.
9The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters.
11The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.
12(The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin⚓ and onyx are also there.)
13The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.⚓
14The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
15The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
16And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
17but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
18The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
19Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.
20So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam⚓ no suitable helper was found.
21So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs⚓ and then closed up the place with flesh.
22Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib⚓ he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
24That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
25Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
