Rước Rương Giao Ước Vào Đền Thờ

¹Bấy giờ Sa-lô-môn triệu tập các trưởng lão của Y-sơ-ra-ên, tất cả các trưởng chi tộc và các trưởng gia tộc trong Y-sơ-ra-ên lại trước mặt vua ở Giê-ru-sa-lem, để rước Rương Giao Ước của Chúa từ thành Đa-vít ở Si-ôn đến Đền Thờ. ²Vào tháng Ê-tha-nim, tức tháng bảy, toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên tụ họp lại quanh vua Sa-lô-môn để dự lễ.
³Khi tất cả các trưởng lão đến, các thầy tế lễ khiêng Rương đi. ⁴Vậy những thầy tế lễ và những người Lê-vi khiêng Rương của Chúa, Lều Tạm là nơi diện kiến với Chúa, và tất cả các vật dụng thánh trong Lều Tạm đem đi. ⁵Vua Sa-lô-môn và toàn thể hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên, tức là những người đã nhóm họp trước mặt vua, hiệp cùng với vua đến trước Rương. Họ dâng hiến chiên và bò nhiều vô kể, nhiều đến độ không thể đếm được.
⁶Rồi các thầy tế lễ thỉnh Rương Giao Ước của Chúa đặt vào vị trí, ở phía bên trong của Đền Thờ, tức là Nơi Chí Thánh, dưới các cánh chê-ru-bim. ⁷Các chê-ru-bim dang cánh ra bên trên Rương; các chê-ru-bim che phủ Rương và các đòn khiêng. ⁸Các đòn khiêng nầy khá dài đến độ ở Nơi Thánh ngay trước Nơi Chí Thánh người ta có thể trông thấy được đầu các đòn khiêng, nhưng ở ngoài thì không thấy được. Các đòn khiêng ấy vẫn còn ở đó cho đến ngày nay. ⁹Trong Rương không có gì khác ngoài hai bảng bằng đá mà Môi-se đã đặt vào đó khi còn ở Hô-rếp, là nơi Chúa đã lập giao ước với dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, khi họ vừa mới ra khỏi Ai-cập.
¹⁰Khi các thầy tế lễ vừa ra khỏi Nơi Thánh, thì có một đám mây bao phủ Đền Thờ của Chúa, ¹¹đến nỗi các thầy tế lễ không thể tiếp tục thi hành nghi lễ vì mây bao phủ và vì vinh hiển của Chúa đầy dẫy khắp Đền Thờ của Chúa.
¹²Bấy giờ Sa-lô-môn nói: “Chúa đã phán rằng Ngài ngự trong mây dày đặc. ¹³Con đã xây cho Ngài một ngôi đền nguy nga tráng lệ, làm một nơi để Ngài ngự đời đời.”

Sa-lô-môn Hiệu Triệu Dân Chúng

¹⁴Đoạn vua quay lại và chúc phước cho hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên, trong khi cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên đang đứng. ¹⁵Vua nói: “Chúc tụng Chúa, là Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, là Đấng dùng tay Ngài làm ứng nghiệm mọi điều Ngài đã hứa với Đa-vít, cha ta. Ngài có phán rằng: ¹⁶‘Từ ngày Ta đem dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ta ra khỏi Ai-cập, Ta không chọn một thành nào trong các chi tộc Y-sơ-ra-ên để xây cất một nhà cho Ta, hầu cho danh Ta sẽ ngự tại đó, nhưng Ta đã chọn Đa-vít để trị vì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ta.’ ¹⁷Đa-vít, cha ta, có ý định xây cất một ngôi đền cho danh Chúa, là Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên. ¹⁸Nhưng Chúa có phán với Đa-vít, cha ta rằng: ‘Ngươi có ý tốt khi muốn xây cất một ngôi đền cho danh Ta; ¹⁹nhưng ngươi sẽ không xây đền ấy cho Ta đâu, nhưng con trai ngươi, do ngươi sinh ra, sẽ xây đền ấy cho danh Ta.’ ²⁰Bây giờ Chúa đã làm thành những lời Ngài đã hứa, vì ta đã đứng thay vào chỗ của Đa-vít, cha ta; ta ngồi trên ngai của Y-sơ-ra-ên, như Chúa đã hứa, và ta cũng đã xây một ngôi đền cho danh Chúa, là Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên. ²¹Đây nầy ta đã làm một chỗ để đặt Rương Giao Ước, trong đó có chứa đựng giao ước của Chúa, mà Ngài đã hứa với các tổ phụ chúng ta, khi Ngài đem họ ra khỏi xứ Ai-cập.”

Sa-lô-môn Cầu Nguyện

²²Bấy giờ Sa-lô-môn đứng trước bàn thờ của Chúa, trước mặt toàn thể hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên, giơ hai tay lên trời ²³và cầu nguyện rằng:
“Lạy Chúa, là Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, chẳng có thần nào giống như Ngài ở trên trời cao kia hay dưới đất thấp nầy. Ngài giữ giao ước và tỏ tình thương đối với các tôi tớ Ngài là những người bước đi cách hết lòng trước mặt Ngài. ²⁴Ngài đã giữ giao ước Ngài phán với tôi tớ Ngài là Đa-vít, cha của con. Điều chính miệng Ngài đã hứa thì ngày nay cánh tay Ngài đã thực hiện.
²⁵Giờ đây, lạy Chúa, là Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, xin Ngài tiếp tục giữ những gì Ngài đã hứa với Đa-vít, cha của con, rằng: ‘Trước mặt Ta, ngươi sẽ không thiếu một kẻ kế vị ngươi để ngồi trên ngôi của Y-sơ-ra-ên, nếu con cháu ngươi biết cẩn thận giữ đúng đường lối chúng, bước đi trước mặt Ta như ngươi đã bước đi trước mặt Ta.’ ²⁶Vậy nên, lạy Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, cầu xin Ngài thực hiện lời nầy mà Ngài đã hứa với tôi tớ Ngài là Đa-vít, cha của con.
²⁷Nhưng Đức Chúa Trời thật có ngự trên đất chăng? Ngay cả trời của các từng trời còn chưa thể chứa Ngài được thay, huống chi là ngôi đền con xây cất cho Ngài đây. ²⁸Lạy CHÚA là Đức Chúa Trời của con, xin đoái đến lời cầu nguyện và nài xin của tôi tớ Ngài; xin đoái nghe lời cầu xin và khẩn nguyện mà tôi tớ Ngài xin dâng lên trước thánh nhan Ngài ngày nay. ²⁹Nguyện mắt Ngài đêm ngày đoái xem ngôi đền nầy, là nơi Ngài đã phán rằng: ‘Danh Ta sẽ ngự tại đó,’ để Ngài nghe lời cầu nguyện của tôi tớ Ngài hướng về nơi đây cầu khẩn. ³⁰Xin Ngài lắng nghe lời cầu xin của tôi tớ Ngài và của con dân Ngài mỗi khi họ hướng về nơi nầy mà cầu nguyện. Từ chốn thiên đàng, nơi Ngài ngự, xin Ngài dủ nghe và tha thứ cho.
³¹Khi có ai phạm tội nghịch lại người lân cận mình, và người ta bắt kẻ ấy phải thề; nếu kẻ ấy đến và thề trước bàn thờ Ngài trong ngôi đền nầy, ³²thì từ chốn thiên đàng xin Ngài lắng nghe, hành động và phân xử các tôi tớ Ngài; xin Ngài kết án kẻ có tội và bắt nó phải cúi đầu chịu lấy hậu quả tội lỗi mình; và xin Ngài minh oan cho người ngay lành và ban thưởng cho họ vì sự vô tội của họ.
³³Khi dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ngài có phạm tội nghịch lại Ngài, rồi bị quân thù đánh bại, nhưng khi họ biết quay về với Ngài, tuyên xưng danh Ngài, cầu nguyện và khẩn xin Ngài trong ngôi đền nầy, ³⁴thì từ chốn thiên đàng, xin Ngài dủ nghe, xin Ngài tha thứ tội cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ngài, và đem họ về lại xứ mà Ngài đã ban cho tổ phụ họ.
³⁵Khi trời đóng lại và không mưa xuống đất bởi vì họ có phạm tội nghịch lại Ngài, nhưng rồi họ hướng về nơi nầy mà cầu nguyện, tuyên xưng danh Ngài, lìa bỏ tội lỗi, vì đã bị Ngài sửa phạt, ³⁶thì từ chốn thiên đàng, xin Ngài dủ nghe, xin Ngài tha thứ tội lỗi của các tôi tớ Ngài, là dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ngài. Cầu xin Ngài chỉ dạy họ con đường tốt mà họ phải đi và ban mưa xuống xứ mà Ngài đã ban cho dân Ngài làm sản nghiệp.
³⁷Khi trong xứ có đói kém, khi họ gặp phải dịch lệ, hạn hán, nấm mốc, cào cào, hay sâu bọ, nếu quân thù có vây hãm thành nào của họ, bất cứ họ bị dịch lệ nào, bất cứ họ bị bịnh tật gì, ³⁸và có cá nhân nào hay toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ngài hết lòng nhận biết nỗi đau đớn của mình mà giơ tay ra hướng về ngôi đền nầy mà cầu nguyện, nài xin, ³⁹thì từ chốn thiên đàng, nơi ngự của Ngài, xin Ngài dủ nghe, tha thứ, hành động, và báo trả cho mỗi người tùy theo điều Ngài biết nơi lòng của họ, và tùy theo những đường lối của họ; vì chỉ một mình Ngài mới biết rõ mọi sự trong lòng mỗi người mà thôi; ⁴⁰hầu cho họ sẽ kính sợ Ngài trọn đời mình và sẽ sống trong xứ mà Ngài đã ban cho tổ phụ họ.
⁴¹Ngoài ra, khi có người ngoại quốc nào, là người không thuộc về dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ngài, từ một xứ xa đến vì nghe uy danh Ngài— ⁴²vì người ta sẽ nghe đại danh của Ngài, cánh tay quyền năng của Ngài, và cánh tay Ngài đã giang ra—khi có một người ngoại quốc đến, hướng về ngôi đền nầy mà cầu nguyện, ⁴³thì từ chốn thiên đàng, nơi ngự của Ngài, xin Ngài dủ nghe, và nhậm mọi lời cầu nguyện người ngoại quốc đó đã cầu xin với Ngài, hầu cho mọi dân trên đất sẽ biết đến danh Ngài và kính sợ Ngài, giống như dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ngài đã làm vậy, và thiên hạ sẽ biết rằng danh của Ngài được kêu cầu nơi nhà nầy, là nhà mà con đã xây.
⁴⁴Khi dân Ngài phải ra chiến trận đánh đuổi quân thù, dù họ đang ở bất cứ nơi nào Ngài sai họ đi, và khi dân Ngài hướng về thành nầy là thành Ngài đã chọn và ngôi đền con đã xây cho danh Ngài mà cầu nguyện với Chúa, ⁴⁵thì từ chốn thiên đàng, nơi ngự của Ngài, xin Ngài dủ nghe lời cầu nguyện và nài xin của họ mà binh vực duyên cớ họ.
⁴⁶Khi họ phạm tội cùng Ngài—vì chẳng ai là không phạm tội—và Ngài giận họ, phó họ cho quân thù, chúng bắt họ lưu đày trong xứ của kẻ thù nghịch, dù xa hay gần; ⁴⁷nhưng nếu đang lúc ở trong xứ lưu đày họ biết hồi tâm sửa đổi, họ ăn năn và kêu cầu với Ngài trong xứ của những kẻ bắt họ đi lưu đày, mà rằng: ‘Chúng con đã phạm tội, chúng con đã sai trật, chúng con đã làm điều gian ác.’ ⁴⁸Nếu họ hết lòng hết linh hồn ăn năn cùng Ngài trong xứ của kẻ thù, là những kẻ bắt họ đi lưu đày, nếu họ hướng về xứ mà Ngài đã ban cho tổ phụ họ, về thành mà Ngài đã chọn, và về ngôi đền mà con đã xây cho danh Ngài mà cầu nguyện, ⁴⁹thì từ chốn thiên đàng, nơi ngự của Ngài, xin Ngài dủ nghe lời cầu nguyện và nài xin của họ mà binh vực duyên cớ họ; ⁵⁰xin Ngài tha thứ cho dân Ngài mọi tội lỗi và mọi vi phạm mà họ đã phạm đối với Ngài; xin Ngài khiến những kẻ đang bắt họ lưu đày tỏ lòng thương xót họ; ⁵¹vì họ là dân Ngài, là cơ nghiệp của Ngài, là những kẻ Ngài đã đem ra từ Ai-cập, từ giữa lò nung chảy sắt.
⁵²Cầu xin mắt Ngài đoái xem lời cầu xin của tôi tớ Ngài, và lời cầu xin của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ngài, xin Ngài lắng nghe họ khi họ kêu cầu Ngài. ⁵³Vì Ngài đã tách họ ra khỏi mọi dân tộc trên đất, để họ làm cơ nghiệp Ngài, như Ngài đã hứa cùng Môi-se, tôi tớ Ngài, khi Ngài đem tổ phụ chúng con ra khỏi Ai-cập, ôi lạy Chúa là Đấng Chủ Tể Tuyệt Đối.”

Vua Sa-lô-môn Chúc Phước Cho Dân

⁵⁴Khi Sa-lô-môn đã dâng lời cầu nguyện nầy và những lời cầu xin nầy lên Chúa xong, vua đứng dậy trước bàn thờ của Chúa, là nơi vua đã quỳ và giơ hai tay lên trời. ⁵⁵Vua đứng dậy, cất tiếng lớn chúc phước cho toàn hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng:
⁵⁶“Chúa tụng Chúa, là Đấng ban cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ngài được an nghỉ như mọi lời Ngài đã hứa. Không một lời nào trong tất cả những lời hứa tốt đẹp mà Ngài đã cậy Môi-se, tôi tớ Ngài, nói ra mà Ngài không làm cho ứng nghiệm. ⁵⁷Nguyện xin CHÚA là Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta ở với chúng ta, như Ngài đã ở với tổ phụ chúng ta. Nguyện xin Ngài đừng lìa và đừng bỏ chúng ta. ⁵⁸Nguyện lòng của chúng ta luôn hướng về Ngài, đi trong mọi đường lối Ngài, vâng giữ những điều răn, luật lệ, và mạng lịnh mà Ngài đã truyền cho tổ phụ chúng ta. ⁵⁹Nguyện những lời của ta đã cầu nguyện trước mặt CHÚA sẽ ở bên cạnh Chúa là Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta ngày và đêm. Nguyện Ngài binh vực duyên cớ của tôi tớ Ngài và dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ngài tùy theo nhu cầu mỗi ngày; ⁶⁰để cho mọi dân tộc trên đất sẽ biết rằng CHÚA là Đức Chúa Trời, không có một chân thần nào khác. ⁶¹Vậy, các ngươi khá hết lòng tận trung với CHÚA là Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta, mà sống theo các luật lệ của Ngài và vâng giữ các điều răn của Ngài, y như đã làm ngày nay.”

Lễ Cung Hiến Đền Thờ

⁶²Rồi vua và toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đang hiệp với vua dâng các sinh tế lên trước mặt Chúa. ⁶³Sa-lô-môn dâng cho Chúa hai mươi hai ngàn con bò và một trăm hai mươi ngàn con chiên làm của lễ tạ ơn. Vậy vua và toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên cung hiến Đền Thờ lên Chúa.
⁶⁴Ngày hôm đó, vua biệt riêng khu vực ở giữa sân trước Đền Thờ của Chúa làm nơi dâng các của lễ thiêu, các của lễ chay, và mỡ của các của lễ tạ ơn, vì bàn thờ bằng đồng trước mặt CHÚA quá nhỏ, không đủ chỗ để nhận các của lễ thiêu, các của lễ chay, và mỡ của các của lễ tạ ơn.
⁶⁵Vậy, lúc ấy Sa-lô-môn và toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên có mặt với vua mừng lễ trước mặt CHÚA là Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta bảy ngày. Thật là một đoàn dân đông đảo, đến từ cửa ải Ha-mát cho đến suối Ai-cập. ⁶⁶Vào ngày thứ tám, vua truyền cho dân chúng ra về. Họ chúc phước cho vua, rồi trở về trại mình, tinh thần vui mừng phấn khởi, vì mọi điều tốt đẹp mà Chúa đã làm cho Đa-vít, tôi tớ Ngài và cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ngài.

The Ark Brought to the Temple

¹Then King Solomon summoned into his presence at Jerusalem the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes and the chiefs of the Israelite families, to bring up the ark of the Lord’s covenant from Zion, the City of David. ²All the Israelites came together to King Solomon at the time of the festival in the month of Ethanim, the seventh month.
³When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the priests took up the ark, ⁴and they brought up the ark of the Lord and the tent of meeting and all the sacred furnishings in it. The priests and Levites carried them up, ⁵and King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel that had gathered about him were before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and cattle that they could not be recorded or counted.
⁶The priests then brought the ark of the Lord’s covenant to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, and put it beneath the wings of the cherubim. ⁷The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its carrying poles. ⁸These poles were so long that their ends could be seen from the Holy Place in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are still there today. ⁹There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt.
¹⁰When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the Lord. ¹¹And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled his temple.
¹²Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud; ¹³I have indeed built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever.”
¹⁴While the whole assembly of Israel was standing there, the king turned around and blessed them. ¹⁵Then he said:
“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his own hand has fulfilled what he promised with his own mouth to my father David. For he said, ¹⁶‘Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built so that my Name might be there, but I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.’
¹⁷“My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel. ¹⁸But the Lord said to my father David, ‘You did well to have it in your heart to build a temple for my Name. ¹⁹Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own flesh and blood—he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.’
²⁰“The Lord has kept the promise he made: I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the Lord promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel. ²¹I have provided a place there for the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he made with our ancestors when he brought them out of Egypt.”

Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication

²²Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven ²³and said:
“Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way. ²⁴You have kept your promise to your servant David my father; with your mouth you have promised and with your hand you have fulfilled it—as it is today.
²⁵“Now Lord, the God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father the promises you made to him when you said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants are careful in all they do to walk before me faithfully as you have done.’ ²⁶And now, God of Israel, let your word that you promised your servant David my father come true.
²⁷“But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built! ²⁸Yet give attention to your servant’s prayer and his plea for mercy, Lord my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day. ²⁹May your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, this place of which you said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that you will hear the prayer your servant prays toward this place. ³⁰Hear the supplication of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.
³¹“When anyone wrongs their neighbor and is required to take an oath and they come and swear the oath before your altar in this temple, ³²then hear from heaven and act. Judge between your servants, condemning the guilty by bringing down on their heads what they have done, and vindicating the innocent by treating them in accordance with their innocence.
³³“When your people Israel have been defeated by an enemy because they have sinned against you, and when they turn back to you and give praise to your name, praying and making supplication to you in this temple, ³⁴then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them back to the land you gave to their ancestors.
³⁵“When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because your people have sinned against you, and when they pray toward this place and give praise to your name and turn from their sin because you have afflicted them, ³⁶then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the right way to live, and send rain on the land you gave your people for an inheritance.
³⁷“When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when an enemy besieges them in any of their cities, whatever disaster or disease may come, ³⁸and when a prayer or plea is made by anyone among your people Israel—being aware of the afflictions of their own hearts, and spreading out their hands toward this temple— ³⁹then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive and act; deal with everyone according to all they do, since you know their hearts (for you alone know every human heart), ⁴⁰so that they will fear you all the time they live in the land you gave our ancestors.
⁴¹“As for the foreigner who does not belong to your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of your name— ⁴²for they will hear of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm—when they come and pray toward this temple, ⁴³then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your own people Israel, and may know that this house I have built bears your Name.
⁴⁴“When your people go to war against their enemies, wherever you send them, and when they pray to the Lord toward the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name, ⁴⁵then hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause.
⁴⁶“When they sin against you—for there is no one who does not sin—and you become angry with them and give them over to their enemies, who take them captive to their own lands, far away or near; ⁴⁷and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captors and say, ‘We have sinned, we have done wrong, we have acted wickedly’; ⁴⁸and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul in the land of their enemies who took them captive, and pray to you toward the land you gave their ancestors, toward the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name; ⁴⁹then from heaven, your dwelling place, hear their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause. ⁵⁰And forgive your people, who have sinned against you; forgive all the offenses they have committed against you, and cause their captors to show them mercy; ⁵¹for they are your people and your inheritance, whom you brought out of Egypt, out of that iron-smelting furnace.
⁵²“May your eyes be open to your servant’s plea and to the plea of your people Israel, and may you listen to them whenever they cry out to you. ⁵³For you singled them out from all the nations of the world to be your own inheritance, just as you declared through your servant Moses when you, Sovereign Lord, brought our ancestors out of Egypt.”
⁵⁴When Solomon had finished all these prayers and supplications to the Lord, he rose from before the altar of the Lord, where he had been kneeling with his hands spread out toward heaven. ⁵⁵He stood and blessed the whole assembly of Israel in a loud voice, saying:
⁵⁶“Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses. ⁵⁷May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us nor forsake us. ⁵⁸May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in obedience to him and keep the commands, decrees and laws he gave our ancestors. ⁵⁹And may these words of mine, which I have prayed before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel according to each day’s need, ⁶⁰so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God and that there is no other. ⁶¹And may your hearts be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time.”

The Dedication of the Temple

⁶²Then the king and all Israel with him offered sacrifices before the Lord. ⁶³Solomon offered a sacrifice of fellowship offerings to the Lord: twenty-two thousand cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats. So the king and all the Israelites dedicated the temple of the Lord.
⁶⁴On that same day the king consecrated the middle part of the courtyard in front of the temple of the Lord, and there he offered burnt offerings, grain offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings, because the bronze altar that stood before the Lord was too small to hold the burnt offerings, the grain offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings.
⁶⁵So Solomon observed the festival at that time, and all Israel with him—a vast assembly, people from Lebo Hamath to the Wadi of Egypt. They celebrated it before the Lord our God for seven days and seven days more, fourteen days in all. ⁶⁶On the following day he sent the people away. They blessed the king and then went home, joyful and glad in heart for all the good things the Lord had done for his servant David and his people Israel.
