Ê-li được cất lên trời
1Khi Đức Giê-hô-va sắp đem Ê-li lên trời trong một cơn gió lốc, Ê-li và Ê-li-sê rời Ghinh-ganh.
2Ê-li nói với Ê-li-sê: “Hãy ở lại đây, vì Đức Giê-hô-va sai ta đi đến Bê-tên.” Nhưng Ê-li-sê thưa: “Con chỉ Đức Giê-hô-va hằng sống và chỉ mạng sống thầy mà thề, con không rời khỏi thầy đâu.” Vậy, họ đi xuống Bê-tên.
3Môn đồ của các nhà tiên tri ở Bê-tên đến hỏi Ê-li-sê: “Anh có biết rằng ngày nay Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ đem thầy của anh lên khỏi anh chăng?” Ông đáp: “Tôi biết chứ! Các anh hãy im lặng.”
4Ê-li lại nói với Ê-li-sê: “Nầy Ê-li-sê, hãy ở lại đây, vì Đức Giê-hô-va sai ta đi đến Giê-ri-cô.” Nhưng Ê-li-sê đáp: “Con chỉ Đức Giê-hô-va hằng sống và chỉ mạng sống thầy mà thề, con không rời khỏi thầy đâu.” Vậy, họ đi đến Giê-ri-cô.
5Môn đồ của các nhà tiên tri ở Giê-ri-cô đến gần Ê-li-sê, và hỏi: “Anh có biết rằng ngày nay Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ đem thầy của anh lên khỏi anh chăng?” Ông đáp: “Tôi biết chứ! Các anh hãy im lặng.”

7Có năm mươi người trong số môn đồ của các nhà tiên tri đi theo, đứng ở đằng xa, đối diện nơi Ê-li và Ê-li-sê đang đứng bên bờ sông Giô-đanh.
8Ê-li lấy áo choàng của mình, cuộn lại và đập xuống nước. Nước sông rẽ ra hai bên, và hai người đi ngang qua trên đất khô.
9Khi đã qua sông, Ê-li nói với Ê-li-sê: “Hãy xin điều con muốn ta làm cho con, trước khi ta được đem lên khỏi con.” Ê-li-sê thưa: “Xin thần của thầy giáng trên con gấp đôi.”⚓
10Ê-li nói: “Con xin một điều khó. Nhưng nếu con thấy ta lúc được đem lên khỏi con thì sẽ được như thế; nếu không, thì không được.”
11Trong khi họ vừa đi vừa nói chuyện với nhau, kìa, có một chiếc xe bằng lửa và các ngựa lửa phân rẽ hai người, rồi Ê-li lên trời trong một cơn gió lốc.
12Ê-li-sê nhìn thấy thì kêu lên: “Cha của con ơi! Cha của con ơi! Xe và ngựa chiến của Y-sơ-ra-ên!” Rồi ông không còn thấy thầy mình nữa. Ông nắm áo mình xé ra làm hai mảnh.⚓
Ê-li-sê nối tiếp chức vụ của Ê-li
13Ê-li-sê nhặt lấy chiếc áo choàng từ Ê-li rơi xuống. Ông trở về và đứng bên bờ sông Giô-đanh.
14Rồi ông lấy chiếc áo choàng từ Ê-li rơi xuống, đập xuống nước và nói: “Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của Ê-li ở đâu?” Khi Ê-li-sê đập xuống nước giống như Ê-li thì nước liền rẽ ra hai bên, và ông đi ngang qua.
15Khi môn đồ của các nhà tiên tri ở Giê-ri-cô thấy Ê-li-sê từ đằng xa thì nói: “Thần của Ê-li ngự trên Ê-li-sê.” Họ đến đón ông, sấp mình xuống đất trước mặt ông
16và nói: “Nầy, trong số các đầy tớ của ông có năm mươi người lực lưỡng. Xin cho họ đi tìm thầy của ông. Có lẽ Thần của Đức Giê-hô-va đem người lên rồi đặt trên một ngọn núi hoặc trong một thung lũng nào chăng?” Ê-li-sê đáp: “Đừng sai họ đi.”
17Nhưng họ cố nài nỉ mãi đến nỗi ông miễn cưỡng nói: “Hãy sai họ đi đi!” Họ liền sai năm mươi người đi tìm kiếm suốt ba ngày, nhưng chẳng tìm thấy Ê-li.
18Khi họ trở về, Ê-li-sê vẫn ở tại Giê-ri-cô. Ông nói với họ: “Chẳng phải tôi đã bảo các anh đừng đi đó sao?”
Ê-li-sê làm phép lạ
19Dân trong thành nói với Ê-li-sê: “Như chúa đã thấy, địa thế của thành thì tốt, nhưng nước thì độc và đất thì không sinh hoa màu.”
20Ông bảo: “Hãy đem cho tôi một cái bát mới và bỏ muối vào đó.” Vậy họ đem bát muối đến cho ông.
21Ông đi đến nguồn nước, đổ muối xuống và nói: “Đức Giê-hô-va phán thế nầy: ‘Ta đã chữa lành nguồn nước nầy, nó sẽ không còn gây chết chóc hoặc làm cho đất không sinh hoa màu nữa.’”
22Vậy, nước ấy hóa lành cho đến ngày nay, như lời Ê-li-sê đã nói.
Những đứa trẻ bị gấu xé
23Từ đó, Ê-li-sê đi lên Bê-tên. Ông đang đi dọc đường thì có bọn trẻ con trong thành kéo ra chế nhạo ông rằng: “Lão hói đầu, hãy lên! Lão hói đầu, hãy lên!”
24Ông quay lại nhìn và nhân danh Đức Giê-hô-va mà nguyền rủa chúng. Lập tức có hai con gấu cái từ trong rừng đi ra, vồ xé bốn mươi hai đứa trong bọn chúng.
25Từ đó, Ê-li-sê đến núi Cạt-mên, rồi trở về Sa-ma-ri.

Elijah Ascends to Heaven
1And it came to pass, when the Lord was about to ⚓take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with ⚓Elisha from Gilgal.
2Then Elijah said to Elisha, ⚓“Stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to Bethel.”
But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, and ⚓as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they went down to Bethel.
3Now ⚓the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take away your master from over you today?”
And he said, “Yes, I know; keep silent!”
4Then Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to Jericho.”
But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they came to Jericho.
5Now the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take away your master from over you today?”
So he answered, “Yes, I know; keep silent!”
6Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to the Jordan.”
But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So the two of them went on.
7And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood facing them at a distance, while the two of them stood by the Jordan.
8Now Elijah took his mantle, rolled it up, and struck the water; and ⚓it was divided this way and that, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ⚓ground.
9And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?”
Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”
10So he said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.”
11Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly ⚓a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah ⚓went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, ⚓“My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces.
13He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.
14Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the water, ⚓it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.
15Now when the sons of the prophets who were⚓from Jericho saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him, and bowed to the ground before him.
16Then they said to him, “Look now, there are fifty strong men with your servants. Please let them go and search for your master, ⚓lest perhaps the Spirit of the Lord has taken him up and cast him upon some mountain or into some valley.”
And he said, “You shall not send anyone.”
17But when they urged him till he was ⚓ashamed, he said, “Send them!” Therefore they sent fifty men, and they searched for three days but did not find him.
18And when they came back to him, for he had stayed in Jericho, he said to them, “Did I not say to you, ‘Do not go’?”
Elisha Performs Miracles
19Then the men of the city said to Elisha, “Please notice, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the ground barren.”
20And he said, “Bring me a new bowl, and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him.
21Then he went out to the source of the water, and ⚓cast in the salt there, and said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘I have healed this water; from it there shall be no more death or barrenness.’ ”
22So the water remains ⚓healed to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.
23Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up the road, some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!”
24So he turned around and looked at them, and ⚓pronounced a curse on them in the name of the Lord. And two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths.
25Then he went from there to ⚓Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
