¹CHÚA nói cùng Mô-se, ²“Hãy bảo dân Ít-ra-en quay lại về hướng Bi Ha-hi-rốt và đóng trại giữa Mi-đôn và Hồng hải. Đóng trại đối ngang Ba-anh Xê-phôn, trên bờ biển. ³Vua Ai-cập sẽ nghĩ, ‘Bọn Ít-ra-en bị lạc đường, mắc kẹt trong sa mạc rồi.’ ⁴Ta sẽ khiến cho nhà vua ương ngạnh trở lại, để người rượt đuổi theo dân Ít-ra-en; nhưng ta sẽ đánh bại nhà vua và đoàn quân của người. Như thế ta sẽ được tôn kính và người Ai-cập sẽ biết rằng ta là CHÚA.” Dân Ít-ra-en làm theo như điều Mô-se dặn bảo.

Vua Ai-cập đuổi theo dân Ít-ra-en

⁵Khi vua Ai-cập được báo cáo là dân Ít-ra-en đã ra đi, thì vua và các quần thần đổi ý. Họ hỏi nhau, “Chúng ta đã làm gì vậy? Chúng ta đã để dân Ít-ra-en ra đi. Vậy là mình mất một lũ nô lệ rồi!”
⁶Nên nhà vua chuẩn bị chiến xa và kéo đạo quân theo mình. ⁷Vua mang theo sáu trăm quân xa tốt nhất cùng với tất cả các chiến xa của Ai-cập, mỗi quân xa có một sĩ quan điều khiển⚓. ⁸CHÚA khiến cho vua Ai-cập trở nên ương ngạnh, nên người đuổi theo dân Ít-ra-en đang ra đi trong đắc thắng.
⁹Người Ai-cập cùng với tất cả ngựa, lính lái quân xa, và đạo quân đuổi theo dân Ít-ra-en. Chúng đuổi kịp dân Ít-ra-en trong khi họ đang cắm trại bên bờ Hồng hải, gần Bi Ha-hi-rốt và Ba-anh Xê-phôn.
¹⁰Khi dân Ít-ra-en thấy vua và đạo quân rượt theo mình thì họ đâm hoảng liền kêu cứu cùng CHÚA. ¹¹Họ hỏi Mô-se, “Ông đã làm gì cho chúng tôi đây? Tại sao ông mang chúng tôi ra khỏi Ai-cập để bỏ xác trong sa mạc? Xứ Ai-cập không đủ mồ chôn chúng tôi hay sao?” ¹²Chúng tôi đã bảo ông hồi còn ở Ai-cập là, “Để mặc chúng tôi; thà chúng tôi ở lại làm nô lệ cho người Ai-cập hơn là phải chết trong sa mạc nầy.”
¹³Nhưng Mô-se đáp, “Đừng sợ! Hãy đứng yên chứng kiến, CHÚA sẽ giải cứu các ngươi hôm nay. Những người Ai-cập thấy hôm nay, các ngươi sẽ không còn thấy họ nữa. ¹⁴Các ngươi chỉ việc bình tĩnh; CHÚA sẽ chiến đấu cho các ngươi.”
¹⁵Rồi CHÚA bảo Mô-se, “Tại sao các con kêu cứu cùng ta? Hãy bảo dân Ít-ra-en cứ đi tới. ¹⁶Hãy giơ gậy con ra trên biển để nó rẽ làm đôi cho dân chúng đi trên đất khô. ¹⁷Ta sẽ làm cho người Ai-cập ương ngạnh, để họ đuổi theo người Ít-ra-en, nhưng ta sẽ được tôn kính khi ta đánh bại nhà vua, hết các tài xế quân xa cùng mọi quân xa. ¹⁸Khi ta đánh bại nhà vua, các tài xế quân xa và tất cả quân xa thì người Ai-cập sẽ biết ta là CHÚA.”

Chúa đánh bại đạo quân Ai-cập

¹⁹Lúc đó thiên sứ của Thượng Đế, thường đi trước mặt dân Ít-ra-en, quay trở lại phía sau. Còn trụ mây, thường đi trước dân chúng, thì lại đứng phía sau họ. ²⁰Nên trụ mây đứng giữa dân Ai-cập và dân Ít-ra-en, khiến cho phía Ai-cập thì tối mà phía dân Ít-ra-en thì sáng, và suốt đêm ấy trụ mây phân cách hai đoàn quân.
²¹Mô-se giơ tay lên trên biển. Đêm đó CHÚA mang đến một ngọn gió đông mạnh dồn biển lại, khiến biển trở thành đất khô. Nước biển chia làm đôi, ²²và dân Ít-ra-en đi qua biển trên đất khô, các vách nước chắn ở bên phải và bên trái họ. ²³Sau đó ngựa, quân xa, và các tài xế quân xa của nhà vua theo họ đi xuống biển. ²⁴Đến sáng, từ trụ mây và trụ lửa CHÚA nhìn xuống trông thấy đạo quân Ai-cập liền khiến họ kinh hoảng. ²⁵Ngài khóa bánh xe các quân xa khiến họ phải vất vả điều khiển. Người Ai-cập la lớn, “Thôi chúng ta hãy tránh xa dân Ít-ra-en! CHÚA đang chiến đấu cho chúng chống lại Ai-cập.”
²⁶Sau đó CHÚA bảo Mô-se, “Hãy giơ tay con ra trên biển để nước ào trở lại lấp người Ai-cập, quân xa và các tài xế.”
²⁷Mô-se liền giơ tay ra trên biển, đến sáng sớm biển trở lại vị trí cũ. Người Ai-cập tìm cách chạy trốn nhưng CHÚA xô họ xuống biển sâu. ²⁸Nước tràn trở lại lấp xuống biển các quân xa, tài xế, và toàn thể đạo quân của vua đã đuổi theo dân Ít-ra-en. Không ai sống sót.
²⁹Nhưng dân Ít-ra-en băng qua biển như đi trên đất khô, nước tạo thành vách bên phải và bên trái họ. ³⁰Vậy trong ngày đó CHÚA giải cứu dân Ít-ra-en khỏi tay người Ai-cập. Dân Ít-ra-en nhìn thấy người Ai-cập nằm chết la liệt trên bờ biển. ³¹Khi dân Ít-ra-en thấy quyền năng lớn lao mà CHÚA đã dùng để nghịch lại người Ai-cập thì họ kính sợ CHÚA, tin cậy Ngài cùng Mô-se, tôi tớ Ngài.

¹Then the Lord said to Moses, ²“Tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp near Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea. They are to encamp by the sea, directly opposite Baal Zephon. ³Pharaoh will think, ‘The Israelites are wandering around the land in confusion, hemmed in by the desert.’ ⁴And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.” So the Israelites did this.
⁵When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them and said, “What have we done? We have let the Israelites go and have lost their services!” ⁶So he had his chariot made ready and took his army with him. ⁷He took six hundred of the best chariots, along with all the other chariots of Egypt, with officers over all of them. ⁸The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out boldly. ⁹The Egyptians—all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots, horsemen⚓ and troops—pursued the Israelites and overtook them as they camped by the sea near Pi Hahiroth, opposite Baal Zephon.
¹⁰As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. ¹¹They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? ¹²Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”
¹³Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. ¹⁴The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
¹⁵Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. ¹⁶Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. ¹⁷I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. ¹⁸The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.”
¹⁹Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, ²⁰coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.
²¹Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, ²²and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.
²³The Egyptians pursued them, and all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and horsemen followed them into the sea. ²⁴During the last watch of the night the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion. ²⁵He jammed⚓ the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt.”
²⁶Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.” ²⁷Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing toward⚓ it, and the Lord swept them into the sea. ²⁸The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.
²⁹But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. ³⁰That day the Lord saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. ³¹And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.
