A-cha-xia, vua Giu-đa
1Dân chúng Giê-ru-sa-lem chọn A-cha-xia, con trai út của Giô-ram làm vua thế ông. Các quân cướp bóc đi theo quân Á-rập đến tấn công trại quân Giô-ram đã giết tất cả các anh của A-cha-xia. Vậy A-cha-xia bắt đầu trị vì Giu-đa.
2A-cha-xia được hai mươi hai tuổi khi lên ngôi và trị vì⚓ một năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Mẹ ông tên A-tha-lia, cháu gái Ôm-ri.
3A-cha-xia đi theo con đường của gia đình A-háp, vì mẹ vua xúi giục làm ác.
4A-cha-xia làm điều ác trước mặt CHÚA y như gia đình A-háp. Gia đình ấy cố vấn cho A-cha-xia sau khi cha vua qua đời, và những lời khuyên bậy bạ của họ khiến vua chết.
5Vì nghe theo lời khuyên của họ nên A-cha-xia cùng với Giô-ram con trai A-háp, vua Ít-ra-en, kéo quân đến đánh Ha-xa-ên, vua A-ram ở Ra-mốt trong Ghi-lê-át. Quân A-ram gây cho Giô-ram bị thương.
6Vì vậy Giô-ram trở về Ghít-rê-ên để chữa lành các vết thương ông bị ở Ra-mốt trong Ghi-lê-át khi đánh nhau với Ha-xa-ên, vua A-ram.
A-cha-xia⚓, con Giô-ram, vua Giu-đa đến thăm Giô-ram, con trai A-háp, ở Ghít-rê-ên vì Giô-ram bị thương.
7Thượng-Đế khiến A-cha-xia chết đang khi viếng thăm Giô-ram. A-cha-xia đến nơi và cùng với Giô-ram đi ra gặp Giê-hu, con trai Nim-si, người mà CHÚA đã chỉ định để tiêu diệt gia đình A-háp.
8Trong khi Giê-hu đang trừng phạt gia đình A-háp thì ông gặp các lãnh tụ Giu-đa và các con trai của những thân nhân vua A-cha-xia là những người phục vụ A-cha-xia, Giê-hu liền giết sạch.
9Rồi Giê-hu đi tìm A-cha-xia. Những người của Giê-hu tìm được vua đang trốn trong Xa-ma-ri nên họ giải vua về cho Giê-hu. Rồi họ giết và chôn vua. Họ nói, “A-cha-xia là một trong các con cháu của Giô-sa-phát, Giô-sa-phát hết lòng vâng theo CHÚA.” Không ai trong gia đình A-cha-xia còn đủ sức cầm quyền trên nước Giu-đa nữa.
A-tha-lia và Giô-ách
10Khi A-tha-lia, mẹ A-cha-xia, thấy con mình đã chết liền giết sạch gia đình nhà vua.
11Nhưng Giê-hô-sê-ba, con gái vua Giô-ram, lén bồng Giô-ách, con trai A-cha-xia khỏi các con trai khác của vua sắp bị giết, đem giấu cậu bé và vú nuôi trong một phòng ngủ. Vậy Giê-hô-sê-ba, con gái vua Giô-ram, và chị của A-cha-xia, vợ của thầy tế lễ Giê-hô-gia-đa, giấu Giô-ách nên A-tha-lia không giết cậu được.
12Cậu trốn giữa đám họ ở trong đền thờ của Thượng Đế suốt sáu năm. Trong khi đó A-tha-lia cai trị trên xứ.

Ahaziah Reigns in Judah
1Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made ⚓Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place, for the raiders who came with the ⚓Arabians into the camp had killed all the ⚓older sons. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, reigned.
2Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was⚓Athaliah the granddaughter of Omri.
3He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother advised him to do wickedly.
4Therefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord, like the house of Ahab; for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction.
5He also followed their advice, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.
6⚓Then he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which he had received at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
7His going to Joram ⚓was God’s occasion for Ahaziah’s downfall; for when he arrived, ⚓he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, ⚓whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.
8And it happened, when Jehu was ⚓executing judgment on the house of Ahab, and ⚓found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s brothers who served Ahaziah, that he killed them.
9⚓Then he searched for Ahaziah; and they caught him (he was hiding in Samaria), and brought him to Jehu. When they had killed him, they buried him, “because,” they said, “he is the son of ⚓Jehoshaphat, who ⚓sought the Lord with all his heart.”
So the house of Ahaziah had no one to assume power over the kingdom.
Athaliah Reigns in Judah
10⚓Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs of the house of Judah.
11But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took ⚓Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were being murdered, and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah so that she did not kill him.
12And he was hidden with them in the house of God for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.
