Sự Chết Của Vua Sau-lơ Và Các Con Trai Vua
1Quân Phi-li-tin giao chiến với quân Y-sơ-ra-ên. Quân Y-sơ-ra-ên thua chạy, bỏ lại những người chết trên núi Ghinh-bô-a.
2Quân Phi-li-tin bám sát vua Sau-lơ và các con vua. Chúng giết được Giô-na-than, A-bi-na-đáp, và Manh-ki-sua là các con vua Sau-lơ.
3Thế trận áp đảo vua Sau-lơ dữ dội. Mấy tên bắn cung bắn trúng vua, vua bị trọng thương.
4Vua Sau-lơ bảo người vác binh khí cho mình: “Hãy rút gươm ngươi ra đâm cho ta chết đi, kẻo bọn không cắt bì kia đến đâm ta chết và sỉ nhục ta.” Nhưng người vác binh khí từ chối vì quá sợ. Vua Sau-lơ liền rút gươm ra, lao mình vào mũi gươm.
5Người vác binh khí thấy vua Sau-lơ chết rồi, cũng lao mình vào mũi gươm của mình, cùng chết với vua.
6Thế là vua Sau-lơ, ba người con của vua, người vác binh khí của vua, và tất cả những người của vua đều chết ngày hôm ấy.
7Khi dân Y-sơ-ra-ên bên kia thung lũng và bên kia sông Giô-đanh thấy quân Y-sơ-ra-ên trốn chạy và vua Sau-lơ và các con vua đều chết, họ cũng bỏ các thành mình trốn đi. Quân Phi-li-tin đến chiếm cứ các thành đó.
8Ngày hôm sau, quân Phi-li-tin đến lục soát các tử thi, thấy vua Sau-lơ và ba con vua đều ngã chết trên đỉnh núi Ghinh-bô-a.
9Chúng cắt đầu vua và tước lột khí giới vua, gởi đi khắp xứ Phi-li-tin, loan báo tin mừng trong các miếu thờ thần tượng của họ và trong dân chúng.
10Chúng đặt khí giới vua trong miếu thờ Ách-ta-rốt, còn xác vua chúng treo trên tường thành Bết-san.
11Khi dân thành Gia-bết ở Ga-la-át hay được cách quân Phi-li-tin đối xử với vua Sau-lơ,
12tất cả các dũng sĩ trong thành ra đi suốt đêm, gỡ xác vua Sau-lơ và các con vua khỏi tường thành Bết-san, đem về Gia-bết hỏa táng.
13Họ lấy cốt chôn dưới gốc cây thánh liễu tại Gia-bết và kiêng ăn bảy ngày.

The Tragic End of Saul and His Sons
1Now ⚓the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell slain on Mount ⚓Gilboa.
2Then the Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons. And the Philistines killed ⚓Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons.
3⚓The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him, and he was severely wounded by the archers.
4⚓Then Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest ⚓these uncircumcised men come and thrust me through and abuse me.”
But his armorbearer would not, ⚓for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and ⚓fell on it.
5And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword, and died with him.
6So Saul, his three sons, his armorbearer, and all his men died together that same day.
7And when the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, and those who were on the other side of the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8So it happened the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9And they cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and sent word throughout the land of the Philistines, to ⚓proclaim it in the temple of their idols and among the people.
10⚓Then they put his armor in the temple of the ⚓Ashtoreths, and ⚓they fastened his body to the wall of ⚓Beth Shan.
11⚓Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
12⚓all the valiant men arose and traveled all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth Shan; and they came to Jabesh and ⚓burned them there.
13Then they took their bones and ⚓buried them under the tamarisk tree at ⚓Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
