Giô-a-cha làm vua Ít-ra-en
1Giô-a-cha, con Giê-hu lên ngôi vua cai trị Ít-ra-en ở Xa-ma-ri vào năm thứ hai mươi ba đời Giô-ách, con A-cha-xia, đang làm vua Giu-đa. Giô-a-cha cai trị mười bảy năm.
2Ông làm điều ác trước mặt CHÚA. Giô-a-cha phạm những tội giống như Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai Nê-bát đã phạm. Giê-rô-bô-am xúi giục dân Ít-ra-en phạm tội, Giô-a-cha cũng phạm tội y như thế.
3Nên CHÚA nổi giận cùng Ít-ra-en và trao họ vào tay Ha-xa-ên, vua A-ram cùng con trai người là Bên-ha-đát trong một thời gian khá lâu.
Chúa tỏ lòng thương xót đối với Ít-ra-en
4Sau đó Giô-a-cha van xin CHÚA. Ngài nghe lời vua. CHÚA nhìn thấy sự khốn khổ của Ít-ra-en. Ngài thấy A-ram ngược đãi họ ra sao.
5Ngài ban cho Ít-ra-en một người giải cứu nên họ thoát khỏi tay người A-ram. Dân Ít-ra-en lại được ở trong nhà cửa mình như trước,
6nhưng họ không ngưng phạm những tội như gia đình Giê-rô-bô-am đã phạm. Người đã xúi dân Ít-ra-en phạm tội, và họ tiếp tục phạm những tội đó. Họ cũng để thần tượng A-sê-ra đứng y nguyên tại Xa-ma-ri.
7Trong hàng ngũ quân đội Giô-a-cha không còn lại gì cả ngoại trừ năm mươi lính cỡi ngựa, mười quân xa và mười ngàn bộ binh. Vua A-ram đã tiêu diệt họ, biến họ ra như trấu.
8Mọi việc khác Giô-a-cha làm, những chiến công của ông đều được ghi trong sách sử ký của các vua Ít-ra-en.
9Giô-a-cha qua đời và được chôn ở Xa-ma-ri. Con trai vua là Giê-hô-ách lên kế vị.
Giê-hô-ách làm vua Ít-ra-en
10Giê-hô-ách, con Giô-a-cha lên ngôi vua Ít-ra-en vào năm thứ ba mươi bảy đời Giô-ách, vua Giu-đa. Ông cai trị mười sáu năm.
11Ông làm điều ác trước mặt CHÚA. Ông phạm những tội mà Giê-rô-bô-am, con Nê-bát đã phạm. Giê-rô-bô-am hướng dẫn dân Ít-ra-en phạm tội, Giê-hô-ách cũng làm y như thế.
12Mọi việc khác ông làm, những chiến công của ông như trận đánh giữa ông với A-ma-xia, vua Giu-đa, đều được ghi trong sách sử ký các vua Ít-ra-en.
13Giê-hô-ách qua đời. Giê-rô-bô-am lên ngôi kế vị. Giê-hô-ách được chôn ở Xa-ma-ri cùng với các vua Ít-ra-en.
Giê-hô-ách thăm Ê-li-sê
14Lúc đó Ê-li-sê bị đau. Trước khi ông qua đời, Giê-hô-ách vua Ít-ra-en đến thăm và khóc than cho ông. Giê-hô-ách khóc, “Cha tôi ôi, cha tôi ôi! Có phải nay là thời kỳ của quân xa và lính cỡi ngựa của Ít-ra-en không?”⚓
15Ê-li-sê bảo Giê-hô-ách, “Hãy lấy cung tên.”
Vậy ông lấy cung và tên.
16Ê-li-sê bảo, “Hãy giương cung lên.” Giê-hô-ách liền giương cung. Rồi Ê-li-sê đặt tay ông trên tay vua.
17Ê-li-sê bảo, “Hãy mở cửa sổ phía đông ra.” Giê-hô-ách liền mở cửa sổ. Ê-li-sê-liền bảo, “Hãy bắn đi.”
Giê-hô-ách bắn. Ê-li-sê tiếp, “Đó là tên của CHÚA chiến thắng A-ram! Ngươi sẽ đánh bại quân A-ram ở A-phéc cho đến khi tận diệt chúng nó.”
18Ê-li-sê bảo tiếp, “Hãy lấy tên.” Giê-hô-ách liền lấy tên. Ê-li-sê bảo, “Hãy đập xuống đất.”
Giê-hô-ách liền đập xuống đất ba lần rồi ngừng.
19Người của CHÚA nổi giận cùng vua. Ê-li-sê bảo, “Đáng lẽ ngươi phải đập năm sáu lần thì mới tận diệt quân A-ram được. Nhưng bây giờ ngươi chỉ thắng được chúng có ba lần thôi.”
Việc lạ xảy ra ở mộ Ê-li-sê
20Sau đó Ê-li-sê qua đời và được chôn cất.
Trong lúc đó có những toán dân Mô-áp đi quấy phá đất đai vào mùa xuân.
21Có lần một số người Ít-ra-en đang chôn cất một xác, bỗng nhiên họ thấy quân Mô-áp đến. Người Ít-ra-en liền quăng xác vào mộ Ê-li-sê. Khi xác ấy đụng đến xương cốt Ê-li-sê, thì xác chết sống lại, và đứng lên.
Giê-hô-ách chiếm lại
các thành phố Ít-ra-en
22Trong suốt thời gian Giô-a-cha làm vua, Ha-xa-ên, vua A-ram, thường hay quấy nhiễu dân Ít-ra-en.
23Nhưng CHÚA rất nhân từ cùng Ít-ra-en; Ngài thương xót họ và giúp đỡ họ vì giao ước của Ngài với Áp-ra-ham, Y-sác, và Gia-cốp. Cho đến nay Ngài không hề tiêu diệt họ hay gạt bỏ họ khỏi mặt Ngài.
24Khi Ha-xa-ên, vua A-ram, qua đời thì Bên-ha-đát, con trai ông, lên nối ngôi.
25Trong một trận đánh, Ha-xa-ên chiếm các thành từ Giô-a-cha, cha Giê-hô-ách. Nay Giê-hô-ách chiếm lại các thành đó từ Bên-ha-đát, con của Ha-xa-ên. Ông đánh bại Bên-ha-đát ba lần và lấy lại các thành của Ít-ra-en.

Jehoahaz Reigns in Israel
1In the twenty-third year of ⚓Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, ⚓Jehoahaz the son of Jehu became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.
2And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the ⚓sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin. He did not depart from them.
3Then ⚓the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel, and He delivered them into the hand of ⚓Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of ⚓Ben-Hadad the son of Hazael, all their days.
4So Jehoahaz ⚓pleaded with the Lord, and the Lord listened to him; for ⚓He saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.
5⚓Then the Lord gave Israel a deliverer, so that they escaped from under the hand of the Syrians; and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as before.
6Nevertheless they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin, but walked in them; ⚓and the wooden image also remained in Samaria.
7For He left of the army of Jehoahaz only fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand foot soldiers; for the king of Syria had destroyed them ⚓and made them ⚓like the dust at threshing.
8Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
9So Jehoahaz rested with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. Then Joash his son reigned in his place.
Jehoash Reigns in Israel
10In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.
11And he did evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, but walked in them.
12⚓Now the rest of the acts of Joash, ⚓all that he did, and ⚓his might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
13So Joash ⚓rested with his fathers. Then Jeroboam sat on his throne. And Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
Death of Elisha
14Elisha had become sick with the illness of which he would die. Then Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over his face, and said, “O my father, my father, ⚓the chariots of Israel and their horsemen!”
15And Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and some arrows.” So he took himself a bow and some arrows.
16Then he said to the king of Israel, “Put your hand on the bow.” So he put his hand on it, and Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.
17And he said, “Open the east window”; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot”; and he shot. And he said, “The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you must strike the Syrians at ⚓Aphek till you have destroyed them.”
18Then he said, “Take the arrows”; so he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground”; so he struck three times, and stopped.
19And the man of God was angry with him, and said, “You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria till you had destroyed it!⚓But now you will strike Syria only three times.”
20Then Elisha died, and they buried him. And the ⚓raiding bands from Moab invaded the land in the spring of the year.
21So it was, as they were burying a man, that suddenly they spied a band of raiders; and they put the man in the tomb of Elisha; and when the man was let down and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.
Israel Recaptures Cities from Syria
22And ⚓Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23But the Lord was ⚓gracious to them, had compassion on them, and ⚓regarded them, ⚓because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not yet destroy them or cast them from His presence.
24Now Hazael king of Syria died. Then Ben-Hadad his son reigned in his place.
25And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz recaptured from the hand of Ben-Hadad, the son of Hazael, the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. ⚓Three times Joash defeated him and recaptured the cities of Israel.
