¹Y-David kơp phung tahan tĭng păng, jêh ri dơm kôranh ma du rbăn nuyh, jêh ri kôranh ma du rhiăng nuyh. ²Y-David prơh hăn phung tahan, du kô̆ tâm pe Y-Jôap mât uănh, du kô̆ tâm pe Y-Abisai, kon buklâu Y-Sêruya, oh Y-Jôap mât uănh, du kô̆ tâm pe Y-Itai buklâu Hitit mât gai. Jêh ri hađăch lah ma phung tahan, "Gâp nơm tâm ban lĕ mra hăn ndrel ma khân may." ³Ƀiălah phung tahan lah, "May mâu mra hăn ôh, yorlah tơlah hên du, khân păng mâu mra chrê ma hên ôh. Tơlah du n'gul phung hên khĭt, khân păng mâu mra chrê ma hên lĕ; ƀiălah may jêng du rmưn hên. Pônây, ueh lơn may gŭ tâm ƀon, prơh bu hăn kơl hên. ⁴Hađăch lah ma khân păng, "Moh nau gâp mra ƀư khân may mĭn jêng ueh lơn." Pônây, hađăch dâk ta meng mpông pêr dôl lĕ rngôch phung tahan du luh hăn phung rhiăng nuyh jêh ri phung rbăn nuyh. ⁵Hađăch ntĭnh ma Y-Jôap, ma Y-Abisai, jêh ri ma Y-Itai, "Yor ma gâp, ăn khân may ƀư ma nau rdơ̆ ma bu ndăm Y-Apsalôm." Lĕ rngôch phung ƀon lan iăt tơlah hađăch ntĭnh ma lĕ rngôch phung tahan nau ƀư ma Y-Apsalôm.
⁶Pôri phung tahan du luh hăn tâm mir tâm lơh đah phung Israel; jêh ri khân păng lơh ta nklang krŏng Êphraim. ⁷Phung oh mon Y-David dơi đah phung tahan Israel; jêh ri nar nây geh nau tâm nkhĭt âk ngăn, bar rmưn nuyh. ⁸Nau tâm lơh glom lam n'gor bri nây, jêh ri nar nây geh âk bunuyh khĭt roh tâm bri âk lơn đah nau khĭt ma tak đao.
⁹Phung oh mon Y-David tâm mâp đah Y-Apsalôm ncho du mlâm seh bri; jêh ri seh bri hăn ngor tâm dâng n'gĭng si mbâl, jêh ri păng văk chhŏk yông ta nây dôl seh bri păng nsan nchuăt. ¹⁰Geh du huê bunuyh saơ nau nây jêh ri mbơh ma Y-Jôap, lah: "Gâp lĕ saơ jêh Y-Apsalôm văk yông ta kalơ tơm si." ¹¹Y-Jôap lah ma nơm mbơh ma păng nây, "Moh may lah! may hŏ saơ păng hĕ? Mâm ƀư may mâu sreh păng tô̆p ta neh? Tơlah may lĕ ƀư jêh kơt nĕ gâp mra ăn ma may jê̆t glo prăk jêh ri du njăr rse vân bŭt." ¹²Ƀiălah bu klâu nây lah ma Y-Jôap, "Nđâp tơlah may ăn ma gâp kuăn du rbăn glo prăk kađôi lĕ, gâp mâu yơr ôh ti gâp ƀư ma kon bu klâu hađăch. Yorlah hên tăng jêh nau hađăch ntĭnh ma may, ma Y-Abisai, jêh ri ma Y-Itai, 'Yor gâp king nau rêh bu klâu ndăm Y-Apsalôm! ¹³Bi tơlah gâp ƀư lơi ma nau rêh păng, (jêh ri mâu geh du ntĭl ndơ ndâp ôh ma hađăch), pôri may nơm mra tâm rdâng đah gâp." ¹⁴Y-Jôap lah: "Gâp mâu hôm gơih ôh dĭl jêh gŭ ta aơ iăt nau may." Păng sŏk pe tong hăr, jêh ri ntâp tâm play nuih Y-Apsalôm dôl ôbăl hôm rêh ta kalơ tơm si. ¹⁵Jêh ri jê̆t nuyh bu klâu ndăm djôt ndơ Y-Jôap tâm lơh gŭ jŭm Y-Apsalôm, sreh jêh ri nkhĭt ôbăl.
¹⁶Jêh nây Y-Jôap uh nŭng, phung ƀon lan lĕ bah jêh tĭng phung tahan Israel; yorlah Y-Jôap nkân khân păng. ¹⁷Khân păng sŏk Y-Apsalôm jêh ri mƀăr ôbăl tâm ntu brŏng tâm krŏng, jêh ri bun ta kalơ păng dăp lŭ ăn mpưm. Jêh ri lĕ rngôch phung Israel, ăp nơm phung Israel nchuăt du sĭt ngih vâl păng nơm.
¹⁸Y-Apsalôm dôl hôm rêh, geh ndâk ma păng nơm du mlâm gâng kra tâm Rlŭng Hađăch yorlah păng lah: Gâp mâu geh kon buklâu prăp ndray ma amoh gâp." Păng ntơ gâng kra nây, sŏk amoh păng nơm dơm ta gâng nây; kŏ tât nar aơ bu hôm e ntơ jêng gâng kra Y-Apsalôm.
¹⁹Jêh ri Y-Ahimas kon bu klâu Y-Sadôk lah, "Ăn gâp nchuăt mbơh ma hađăch nau Yêhôva tâm rklaih jêh păng tă bơh nau dơi phung rlăng păng." ²⁰Y-Jôap lah ma păng, "May mâu mra mbơh nau mbe mban aơ, du nar êng may mra ƀư; nau aơ nau mhe mhan mâu jêng ueh ôh, yorlah kon hađăch lĕ khĭt jêh. ²¹Y-Jôap lah ma Y-Kus: "Hăn hom nkoch nau aơ ma hađăch nau may lĕ saơ jêh." Y-Kus mbah Y-Jôap, jêh nây nchuăt hăn. ²²Rnôk nây Y-Ahimas, kon buklâu Y-Sadôk lah ma Y-Jôap, "Kađôi moh nau tât, ăn gâp nchuăt mbơh tâm ban lĕ tĭng ndô̆ bu klâu Y-Kus." Y-Jôap lah: "Moh ir dât, Hơi nô, yorlah may mâu mra geh nau nkhôm ôh yor nau mhe mhan nây?" ²³Păng lah: "Kađôi lĕ moh nau tât, gâp mra nchuăt lĕ." Pôri Y-Jôap lah ma păng, "Nchuăt hom, "Pôri Y-Ahimas nchuăt tĭng trong neh lâng, jêh ri păng rlet bu klâu Y-Kus.
²⁴Y-David gŭ vah vang bar blah mpông pêr. Bi tahan gŭ gak, hao kalơ chor mpông pêr, ta kalơ mpêr, n'gơr măt uănh, saơ du huê bunuyh nchuăt ran. ²⁵Tahan gŭ gak kuăl huy jêh ri lah ma hađăch. Hađăch lah: "Nơm nây tâm ban lĕ leo nau mhe mhan." ²⁷Nơm gŭ gak lah, "Saơ bunuyh nchuăt lor, nâm bu săk jăn Y-Ahimas, kon buklâu Y-Sadôk." Hađăch lah: "Păng jêng du huê bunuyh ueh, jêh ri păng văch mbơh nau mhe mhan ueh." ²⁸Rnôk nây Y-Ahimas nter huy, ma hađăch, "Lĕ rngôch nau jêng ueh." Jêh ri păng chŭn panăp hađăch muh măt păng ta neh jêh ri lah: "Mŏt ton ma Yêhôva Brah Ndu may, nơm jao jêh phung bunuyh yơr ti tâm rdâng đah kôranh gâp hađăch." ²⁹Hađăch lah, "Mâm ƀư ueh lĕ ma buklâu ndăm Y-Apsalôm?" Y-Ahimas plơ̆ sĭt lah: "Tơlah Y-Jôap prơh hăn oh mon may, gâp saơ bu ƀư nau drơu drơu hâu ngăn, ƀiălah gâp mâu gĭt ôh moh nau nây jêng." ³⁰Hađăch lah ma păng, "Veh dâk ta aơ." Pôri păng veh jêh ri kâp ta nây. ³¹Aơ buklâu Y-Kus tât lĕ jêh ri lah: "Nau mhe mhan ueh ma kôranh gâp hađăch! Yorlah Yêhôva tâm rklaih jêh may nar aơ tă bơh nau dơi lĕ rngôch phung dâk tâm rdâng đah may." ³²Hađăch lah ma buklâu Y-Kus, "Mâm ƀư, ueh lĕ ma buklâu ndăm Y-Apsalôm?" Buklâu Y-Kus plơ̆ sĭt lah, "Ăn phung rlăng đah kôranh gâp hađăch jêh ri lĕ rngôch phung dâk tâm rdâng đah may ŭch ƀư mhĭk jêng nâm bu buklâu ndăm nây lĕ!" ³³Jêh ri hađăch phit nuih n'hâm hâu ngăn, jêh ri hao tâm jrô ta kalơ mpông pêr jêh ri nhĭm. Dôl păng chuat păng lah: "Hơi kon buklâu gâp Y-Apsalôm, kon buklâu gâp, kon buklâu gâp Y-Apsalôm! Ueh lơn gâp khĭt ntrok may! Hơi Y-Apsalôm kon buklâu gâp! Kon buklâu gâp!"

Absalom’s Defeat and Death

¹And David numbered the people who were with him, and ⚓set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them. ²Then David sent out one third of the people under the hand of Joab, ⚓one third under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, and one third under the hand of ⚓Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, “I also will surely go out with you myself.”
³⚓But the people answered, “You shall not go out! For if we flee away, they will not care about us; nor if half of us die, will they care about us. But you are worth ten thousand of us now. For you are now more help to us in the city.”
⁴Then the king said to them, “Whatever seems best to you I will do.” So the king stood beside the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands. ⁵Now the king had commanded Joab, Abishai, and Ittai, saying, “Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom.” ⚓And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains orders concerning Absalom.
⁶So the people went out into the field of battle against Israel. And the battle was in the ⚓woods of Ephraim. ⁷The people of Israel were overthrown there before the servants of David, and a great slaughter of twenty thousand took place there that day. ⁸For the battle there was scattered over the face of the whole countryside, and the woods devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
⁹Then Absalom met the servants of David. Absalom rode on a mule. The mule went under the thick boughs of a great terebinth tree, and ⚓his head caught in the terebinth; so he was left hanging between heaven and earth. And the mule which was under him went on. ¹⁰Now a certain man saw it and told Joab, and said, “I just saw Absalom hanging in a terebinth tree!”
¹¹So Joab said to the man who told him, “You just saw him! And why did you not strike him there to the ground? I would have given you ten shekels of silver and a belt.”
¹²But the man said to Joab, “Though I were to receive a thousand shekels of silver in my hand, I would not raise my hand against the king’s son. ⚓For in our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, ‘Beware lest anyone touch the young man Absalom!’ ¹³Otherwise I would have dealt falsely against my own life. For there is nothing hidden from the king, and you yourself would have set yourself against me.”
¹⁴Then Joab said, “I cannot linger with you.” And he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through Absalom’s heart, while he was still alive in the midst of the terebinth tree. ¹⁵And ten young men who bore Joab’s armor surrounded Absalom, and struck and killed him.
¹⁶So Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing Israel. For Joab held back the people. ¹⁷And they took Absalom and cast him into a large pit in the woods, and ⚓laid a very large heap of stones over him. Then all Israel ⚓fled, everyone to his tent.
¹⁸Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and set up a pillar for himself, which is in ⚓the King’s Valley. For he said, ⚓“I have no son to keep my name in remembrance.” He called the pillar after his own name. And to this day it is called Absalom’s Monument.

David Hears of Absalom’s Death

¹⁹Then ⚓Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, “Let me run now and take the news to the king, how the Lord has avenged him of his enemies.”
²⁰And Joab said to him, “You shall not take the news this day, for you shall take the news another day. But today you shall take no news, because the king’s son is dead.” ²¹Then Joab said to the Cushite, “Go, tell the king what you have seen.” So the Cushite bowed himself to Joab and ran.
²²And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said again to Joab, “But whatever happens, please let me also run after the Cushite.”
So Joab said, “Why will you run, my son, since you have no news ready?”
²³“But whatever happens,” he said, “let me run.”
So he said to him, “Run.” Then Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain, and outran the Cushite.
²⁴Now David was sitting between the ⚓two gates. And the watchman went up to the roof over the gate, to the wall, lifted his eyes and looked, and there was a man, running alone. ²⁵Then the watchman cried out and told the king. And the king said, “If he is alone, there is news in his mouth.” And he came rapidly and drew near.
²⁶Then the watchman saw another man running, and the watchman called to the gatekeeper and said, “There is another man, running alone!”
And the king said, “He also brings news.”
²⁷So the watchman said, “I think the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.”
And the king said, “He is a good man, and comes with ⚓good news.”
²⁸So Ahimaaz called out and said to the king, “All is well!” Then he bowed down with his face to the earth before the king, and said, ⚓“Blessed be the Lord your God, who has delivered up the men who raised their hand against my lord the king!”
²⁹The king said, “Is the young man Absalom safe?”
Ahimaaz answered, “When Joab sent the king’s servant and me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I did not know what it was about.”
³⁰And the king said, “Turn aside and stand here.” So he turned aside and stood still.
³¹Just then the Cushite came, and the Cushite said, “There is good news, my lord the king! For the Lord has avenged you this day of all those who rose against you.”
³²And the king said to the Cushite, “Is the young man Absalom safe?”
So the Cushite answered, “May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise against you to do harm, be like that young man!”

David’s Mourning for Absalom

³³Then the king was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went, he said thus: ⚓“O my son Absalom—my son, my son Absalom—if only I had died in your place! O Absalom my son, ⚓my son!”
