Đa-vít trị vì Y-sơ-ra-ên

^1-3Ngày nọ, những đại diện của tất cả các đại tộc Y-sơ-ra-ên đến Hếp-rôn, trình bày với Đa-vít: "Chúng tôi là cốt nhục của bệ hạ. Ngay trong thời Sau-lơ còn cai-trị, chính bệ hạ đã lãnh đạo chúng tôi; và Chúa có phán dạy rằng: "Vua sẽ chăn dắt, cai trị Y-sơ-ra-ên." Vậy, Đa-vít kết giao ước với các trưởng lão trước mặt Chúa, và được họ xức dầu làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.
^4,5Lúc này, Đa-vít đã làm vua Giu-đa tại Hếp-rôn được bảy năm rưỡi, bắt đầu từ năm ba mươi tuổi. Sau đấy, Đa-vít làm vua tại Giê-ru-sa-lem ba mươi ba năm nữa, cai trị cả Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa. Vậy Đa-vít làm vua là tổng cộng là bốn mươi năm.
⁶Đa-vít đem quân đi Giê-ru-sa-lem đánh người Giê-bu, thổ dân địa phương này. Họ nói với Đa-vít: "Ông không vào đây được đâu. Người mù và què cũng đủ sức đánh đuổi ông." Vì họ nghĩ rằng Đa-vít không đủ sức tấn công thành. ⁷Nhưng Đa-vít tấn công, chiếm đồn Si-ôn. Đồn này ngày nay được gọi là thành Đa-vít. ⁸Hôm ấy Đa-vít ra lệnh: "Cứ theo cống dẫn nước vào tấn công bọn 'mù' và 'què' Giê-bu, là bọn lòng ta ghét hận." (Và từ đấy có câu: người mù, kẻ què sẽ không được vào nhà). ⁹Vậy vua ngự trong đồn và đặt tên là thành Đa-vít. Vua thực hiện một chương trình kiến trúc chung quanh nơi này bắt đầu từ Mi-lô, cho đến trung tâm thành phố.
¹⁰Thế lực Đa-vít ngày càng bành trướng vì Chúa Hằng Hữu, Thượng Đế Toàn năng ở với ông. ¹¹Hi-ram vua Ty-rơ ngoài việc gửi sứ giả đến, còn gửi gỗ bách hương, thợ mộc, thợ hồ để xây dinh thự cho Đa-vít. ¹²Đa-vít nhận thức rằng việc Chúa lập ông làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên và cho nước cường thịnh chứng tỏ Ngài đã hành động vì lợi ích của Y-sơ-ra-ên, dân Ngài.
¹³Từ ngày ở Hếp-rôn dời về Giê-ru-sa¬-lem, Đa-vít cưới thêm nhiều vợ lẽ, sinh thêm nhiều con. ¹⁴Và đây là tên các con ông sinh tại Giê-ru-sa-lem: Sa-mua, Sô-báp, Na-than, Sa-lô-môn, ¹⁵Íp-ra, Ê-li-sua, Nê-phéc, Gia-phia, ¹⁶Ê-li-sa-ma, Ê-li-a-đa và Ê-li-phê-lết.
¹⁷Nghe tin Đa-vít được xức dầu làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, người Phi-li-tin kéo rốc toàn lực đến tấn công. Nhưng Đa-vít biết được, nên vào đồn. ¹⁸Quân Phi-li-tin kéo đến, tràn ra trong thung lũng Rê-pha-im. ¹⁹Đa-vít cầu hỏi ý Chúa: "Con nên ra đánh quân Phi-li-tin không? Chúa cho con thắng không?" Chúa đáp: "Nên. Ta sẽ cho con thắng." ²⁰Đa-vít đến Ba-anh Phê-rát-sim, đánh bại quân địch. Ông nói: "Như một dòng nước lũ, Chúa đánh thủng phòng tuyến địch trước mặt tôi." Và ông đặt tên noi ấy là Phê-rát-sim. ²¹Người Phi-li-tin chạy trốn, bỏ cả tượng thần mình lại. Quân Đa-vít lấy các tượng đem đi.
²²Nhưng, quân Phi-li-tin quay lại, tràn ra trong thung lũng Rê-pha-im như trước. ²³Đa-vít lại cầu hỏi ý Chúa. Lần này Ngài bảo: "Đừng tiến thẳng tới, nhưng đi vòng sau lưng địch để tấn công bọc hậu ở chặng cây dâu. ²⁴Khi nào nghe tiếng bước trên ngọn cây dâu, con sẽ tấn công địch, vì Chúa đang đi trước con, đánh quân Phi-li-tin." ²⁵Đa-vít vâng lời Chúa, đánh bại quân Phi-li-tin từ Ghê-ba đến Ghê-xe.

David Becomes King Over Israel

¹All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “We are your own flesh and blood. ²In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the Lord said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.’ ”
³When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel.
⁴David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years. ⁵In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.

David Conquers Jerusalem

⁶The king and his men marched to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived there. The Jebusites said to David, “You will not get in here; even the blind and the lame can ward you off.” They thought, “David cannot get in here.” ⁷Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion—which is the City of David.
⁸On that day David had said, “Anyone who conquers the Jebusites will have to use the water shaft to reach those ‘lame and blind’ who are David’s enemies.⚓ ” That is why they say, “The ‘blind and lame’ will not enter the palace.”
⁹David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces⚓ inward. ¹⁰And he became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him.
¹¹Now Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs and carpenters and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David. ¹²Then David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.
¹³After he left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him. ¹⁴These are the names of the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, ¹⁵Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, ¹⁶Elishama, Eliada and Eliphelet.

David Defeats the Philistines

¹⁷When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went down to the stronghold. ¹⁸Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim; ¹⁹so David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?”
The Lord answered him, “Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.”
²⁰So David went to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, the Lord has broken out against my enemies before me.” So that place was called Baal Perazim.⚓ ²¹The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his men carried them off.
²²Once more the Philistines came up and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim; ²³so David inquired of the Lord, and he answered, “Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the poplar trees. ²⁴As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move quickly, because that will mean the Lord has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.” ²⁵So David did as the Lord commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from Gibeon⚓ to Gezer.
