Chỉ dụ Ạt-ta-xét-xe
1-6Dưới triều Ạt-ta-xét-xe, hoàng đế Ba-tư, có E-xơ-ra (con Sê-ra-gia, Sê-ra-gia con Hinh-kia, Hinh-kia con Sa-lum, Sa-lum con Xa-đốc, Xa-đốc con A-hi-túp, A-hi-túp con A-ma-ria, A-ma-ria con A-xa-ria, A-xa-ri-ria con Mê-ra-giốt, Mê-ra-giốt con Xê-ra-hi-gia, Xô-ra-hi-gia con U-ri, U-ri con Bu-ki, Bu-ki con A-bi-sua, A-bi-sua con Phi-nê-a, Phi-nê-a con Ê-lê-a-sa, Ê-lê-a-sa con A-rôn, A-rôn là thầy tế lễ đầu tiên,⚓ một trong những người lưu đày từ Ba-by-luân về, là văn sĩ, thông thạo luật Mai-sen do chính Thượng Đế Hằng Hữu ban bố cho Y-sơ-ra-ên. Nhờ Chúa giúp đỡ nên mọi điều E-xơ-ra thỉnh cầu đều được hoàng đế chấp thuận.
7-9Cùng hồi hương với ông có một số thường dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, một số thầy tế lễ, người Lê-vi, ca sĩ, người gác cổng và người phục dịch trong Đền thờ. Họ rời Ba-by-luân ngày mồng một tháng giêng năm thứ bảy, đời Ạt-ta-xét-xe và đến Giê-ru-sa-lem ngày mồng một tháng năm, trong sự dẫn dắt và ban ơn của Thượng Đế.
10E-xơ-ra được Chúa phù hộ vì ông chuyên tâm nghiên cứu, thực hành và dạy luật pháp Chúa cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.
11Vua Ạt-ta-xét-xe có trao cho E-xơ-ra thầy tế lễ và văn sĩ - một bức thư như sau:
12“Ạt-ta-xét-xe, vua các vua, gửi cho E-xơ-ra, thầy tế lễ và nhà giáo luật.
13Ta ban hành sắc lệnh cho phép tất cả thường dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, thầy tế lễ và người Lê-vi ở trong nước ta được trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem cùng với ngươi, nếu họ muốn.
14Ta và bảy vị quân sư sai ngươi đi thăm dò cho biết người Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem có tuân giữ luật pháp của Thượng Đế, đúng như bản sao luật ấy hiện ngươi đang có trong tay, hay không.
15Ngươi cũng sẽ chở về Giê-ru-sa-lem số vàng bạc của ta và các vị quân sư tự ý cung hiến cho Thượng Đế của Y-sơ-ra-ên,
16cùng với số vàng bạc của kiều dân Y-sơ-ra-ên và các thầy tế lễ đang sống tại đất Ba-by-luân tự nguyện hiến dâng cho Đền thờ Thượng Đế mình tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.
17Ngươi sẽ dùng tiền này mua bò, cừu đực, cừu con, lễ vật ngũ cốc, lễ quán để dâng trên bàn thờ trong Đền thờ Thượng Đế tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.
18Vàng bạc còn lại, ngươi và anh em ngươi có thể dùng vào việc khác, miễn là hợp với thánh ý Thượng Đế.
19Các dụng cụ Đền thờ được giao lại cho ngươi, ngươi sẽ đem về Giê-ru-sa-lem, đặt trong Đền, trước mặt Thượng Đế.
20Nếu Đền thờ Thượng Đế cần gì khác, ngươi được phép sử dụng công quỹ cho các chi phí ấy.
21Ta, hoàng đế Ạt-ta-xét-xe ra sắc lệnh truyền cho các giám đốc ngân khố miền Tây sông Cái: Bất kỳ những gì E-xơ-ra, thầy tế lễ và nhà giáo luật của Thượng Đế cần, các ngươi phải sẵn sàng cung cấp,
22cho đến giới hạn một trăm ta lâng⚓ bạc, 10.000 giạ⚓ lúa mì, một trăm thùng⚓ rượu, một trăm thùng dầu; còn muối, không cần giới hạn.
23Và, bất cứ điều gì Thượng Đế bảo là cần cho Đền Thờ, các ngươi phải cung cấp chu đáo. Nếu không, Ngài sẽ giáng họa trên nước, trên hoàng đế và các hoàng tử.
24Ta cũng nói rõ, các thầy tế lễ, người Lê-vi, ca sĩ, người gác cổng, người phục dịch Đền thờ và tất cả những người khác làm việc trong Đền thờ, không phải đóng thuế gì cả.
25Còn ngươi, E-xơ-ra, theo sự khôn ngoan Thượng Đế ban cho ngươi, hãy chỉ định thẩm phán và các viên chức, là những người hiểu biết luật Thượng Đế, để họ cai trị, xét xử nhân dân ở phía Tây sông Cái; nếu có ai không thông thạo luật Thượng Đế, ngươi sẽ dạy cho họ.
26Có ai bất tuân luật Thượng Đế và sắc lệnh hoàng đế, phải lập tức xử trị, bằng án tử hình, lưu đày, tịch biên tài sản, hoặc giam giữ tùy trường hợp."
27Ngợi khen Thượng Đế Hằng Hữu của tổ tiên ta, Ngài đã giục giã lòng hoàng đế lo sửa sang Đền thờ Ngài tại Giê-ru-sa-lem cho tốt đẹp,
28và cho tôi được lòng vua, các quân sư, các quân thần. Nhờ Thượng Đế Hằng Hữu giúp đỡ, tôi phấn khởi kêu gọi các nhà lãnh đạo nhân dân xúc tiến việc hồi hương.

Ezra Comes to Jerusalem
1After these things, during the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,
2the son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,
3the son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,
4the son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,
5the son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest—
6this Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which the Lord, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he asked, for the hand of the Lord his God was on him.
7Some of the Israelites, including priests, Levites, musicians, gatekeepers and temple servants, also came up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.
8Ezra arrived in Jerusalem in the fifth month of the seventh year of the king.
9He had begun his journey from Babylon on the first day of the first month, and he arrived in Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month, for the gracious hand of his God was on him.
10For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel.
King Artaxerxes’ Letter to Ezra
11This is a copy of the letter King Artaxerxes had given to Ezra the priest, a teacher of the Law, a man learned in matters concerning the commands and decrees of the Lord for Israel:
12Artaxerxes, king of kings,
To Ezra the priest, teacher of the Law of the God of heaven:
Greetings.
13Now I decree that any of the Israelites in my kingdom, including priests and Levites, who volunteer to go to Jerusalem with you, may go.
14You are sent by the king and his seven advisers to inquire about Judah and Jerusalem with regard to the Law of your God, which is in your hand.
15Moreover, you are to take with you the silver and gold that the king and his advisers have freely given to the God of Israel, whose dwelling is in Jerusalem,
16together with all the silver and gold you may obtain from the province of Babylon, as well as the freewill offerings of the people and priests for the temple of their God in Jerusalem.
17With this money be sure to buy bulls, rams and male lambs, together with their grain offerings and drink offerings, and sacrifice them on the altar of the temple of your God in Jerusalem.
18You and your fellow Israelites may then do whatever seems best with the rest of the silver and gold, in accordance with the will of your God.
19Deliver to the God of Jerusalem all the articles entrusted to you for worship in the temple of your God.
20And anything else needed for the temple of your God that you are responsible to supply, you may provide from the royal treasury.
21Now I, King Artaxerxes, decree that all the treasurers of Trans-Euphrates are to provide with diligence whatever Ezra the priest, the teacher of the Law of the God of heaven, may ask of you—
22up to a hundred talents⚓ of silver, a hundred cors⚓ of wheat, a hundred baths⚓ of wine, a hundred baths⚓ of olive oil, and salt without limit.
23Whatever the God of heaven has prescribed, let it be done with diligence for the temple of the God of heaven. Why should his wrath fall on the realm of the king and of his sons?
24You are also to know that you have no authority to impose taxes, tribute or duty on any of the priests, Levites, musicians, gatekeepers, temple servants or other workers at this house of God.
25And you, Ezra, in accordance with the wisdom of your God, which you possess, appoint magistrates and judges to administer justice to all the people of Trans-Euphrates—all who know the laws of your God. And you are to teach any who do not know them.
26Whoever does not obey the law of your God and the law of the king must surely be punished by death, banishment, confiscation of property, or imprisonment.⚓
27Praise be to the Lord, the God of our ancestors, who has put it into the king’s heart to bring honor to the house of the Lord in Jerusalem in this way
28and who has extended his good favor to me before the king and his advisers and all the king’s powerful officials. Because the hand of the Lord my God was on me, I took courage and gathered leaders from Israel to go up with me.
