A-hi-gia tiên tri về sự diệt vong của nhà Giê-rô-bô-am
1Khi thấy con trai mình là A-bi-gia bệnh nặng,
2Giê-rô-bô-am nói vói vợ: "Bà hóa trang để không ai biết là vợ tôi, rồi đi Si-lô gặp tiên tri A-hi-gia, người báo trước việc tôi làm vua;
3cũng nhớ mang theo mười ổ bánh, mấy cái bánh ngọt và một lọ mật ong. Khi gặp tiên tri, ông sẽ cho biết con có khỏi không."
4Bà vâng lời, đi đến nhà A-hi-gia tại Si-lô. Lúc ấy, A-hi-gia đã già lắm, đôi mắt mù lòa.
5Chúa bảo A-hi-gia: "Có vợ của Giê-rô-bô-am đến kia. Bà muốn hỏi thăm về tình trạng đứa con đang ốm." Chúa bảo ông những điều phải nói với bà, và cho ông biết bà đã hóa trang làm một người khác.
6Nghe tiếng chân bước qua cửa, A-hi-gia nói vọng ra: "Vợ Giê-rô-bô-am đấy à, mời bà vào. Tại sao bà phải giả dạng? Đây, tôi có hung tín cho bà.
7Bà về nói với Giê-rô-bô-am: Thượng Đế Hằng Hữu của Y-sơ-ra-ên phán như sau: Từ một thường dân, ngươi được Ta cất nhắc làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.
8Ta đã tước quyền trị nước khỏi tay nhà Đa-vít, đem giao cho ngươi. Nhưng ngươi không được như Đa-vít, tôi tớ Ta, người đã tuân lệnh Ta, theo Ta hết lòng, làm điều công chính trước mặt Ta.
9Còn ngươi lại làm điều ác hơn cả các tiền bối ngươi, tạo cho mình thần khác, đúc tượng để thờ, chọc giận Ta, chối bỏ Ta.
10Vì thế, Ta sẽ giáng tai họa trên nhà ngươi, giết hết đàn ông trong nhà, kể cả nô lệ. Ta sẽ quét sạch người nhà Giê-rô-bô-am như người ta quét phân cho sạch chuồng.
11Trong số người nhà Giê-rô-bô-am, ai chết trong thành sẽ bị chó ăn, ai chết ngoài đồng, bị chim ăn.' Đấy là lời Chúa.
12Bây giờ, bà đứng lên, đi về nhà! Khi bà bước vào thành, con bà sẽ chết.
13Y-sơ-ra-ên sẽ than khóc và chôn cất nó. Nó là người duy nhất trong nhà Giê-rô-bô-am được mồ êm mả đẹp, vì Chúa thấy nó có được vài điều Ngài vừa ý.
14Chúa sẽ cất nhắc một người lên làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, người này sẽ tiêu diệt nhà Giê-rô-bô-am.
15Từ nay, Chúa sẽ đày đọa Y-sơ-ra-ên như cây sậy bị sóng vỗ dập dồi, bị bứng gốc khỏi đất lành Ngài đã cho tổ tiên họ, bị rải tản mác bên kia Phát-giang, vì họ đi thờ thần tượng và chọc giận Chúa.
16Ngài sẽ từ bỏ Y-sơ-ra-ên vì Giê-rô-bô-am phạm tội và lôi kéo Y-sơ-ra-ên tòng phạm."
17Vợ Giê-rô-bô-am đứng lên đi về Tiệt-sa. Khi bà bước qua ngưỡng cửa nhà mình con bà chết.
18Y-sơ-ra-ên chôn cất và khóc thương nó, đúng như lời Chúa dùng tiên tri A-hi-gia, tôi tớ Ngài báo trước.
19Mọi công việc khác của Giê-rô-bô-am - các cuộc chiến tranh và công cuộc trị dân, đều được chép trong sách lịch sử các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.
20Sau khi làm vua được hai mươi hai năm, Giê-rô-bô-am an nghỉ với tổ tiên. Con trai vua là Na-đáp lên ngôi kế vị.
Rô-bô-am làm vua Giu-đa
21Trong khi ấy, Rô-bô-am, con Sa-lô-môn, làm vua Giu-đa. Rô-bô-am được bốn mươi mốt tuổi lúc lên ngôi, và cai trị mười bảy năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, thành phố được Chúa chọn trong khắp nước Y-sơ-ra-ên làm nơi Ngài ngự. Mẹ Rô-bô-am là Na-a-ma, người Am-môn.
22Người Giu-đa làm điều ác trước mặt Chúa chọc giận Ngài còn hơn tổ tiên họ đã làm trước kia.
23Họ cất miếu thờ trên đồi cao, lập trụ thờ, dựng tượng Át-tạt-tê trên các ngọn đồi và dưới các tàng cây xanh.
24Trong xứ còn có cả nạn tình dục đồng giới. Họ làm những điều bỉ ổi chẳng khác gì thổ dân trước kia đã bị Chúa đuổi đi cho người Y-sơ-ra-ên chiếm xứ.
25Vào năm thứ năm đời vua Rô-bô-am, Si-sắc vua Ai-cập tấn công Giê-ru-sa-lem,
26vơ vét kho tàng của Đền thờ và của cung vua đem về Ai-cập, kể cả các khiên vàng Sa-lô-môn đã làm.
27Vua Rô-bô-am làm những khiên đồng để thay thế, rồi giao khiên cho các sĩ quan của đội ngự lâm canh gác cung vua.
28Mỗi khi vua lên Đền thờ Chúa, lính cận vệ mang khiên vào. Sau đó, họ đem trả khiên về đồn gác.
29Tất cả các công việc khác của Rô-bô-am đều được chép trong sách lịch sử các vua Giu-đa.
30Chiến tranh giữa Rô-bô-am và Giê-rô-bô-am xảy ra liên tục.
31Rô-bô-am an nghỉ với tổ tiên, được chôn trong thành Đa-vít. (Mẹ vua là Na-a-ma, người Am-môn). A-bi-giam, con trai vua lên ngôi kế vị.

Judgment on the House of Jeroboam
1At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam became sick.
2And Jeroboam said to his wife, “Please arise, and disguise yourself, that they may not recognize you as the wife of Jeroboam, and go to Shiloh. Indeed, Ahijah the prophet is there, who told me that ⚓I would be king over this people.
3⚓Also take with you ten loaves, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him; he will tell you what will become of the child.”
4And Jeroboam’s wife did so; she arose ⚓and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were glazed by reason of his age.
5Now the Lord had said to Ahijah, “Here is the wife of Jeroboam, coming to ask you something about her son, for he is sick. Thus and thus you shall say to her; for it will be, when she comes in, that she will pretend to be another woman.”
6And so it was, when Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps as she came through the door, he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why do you pretend to be another person? For I have been sent to you with bad news.
7Go, tell Jeroboam, ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ⚓“Because I exalted you from among the people, and made you ruler over My people Israel,
8and ⚓tore the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to you; and yet you have not been as My servant David, ⚓who kept My commandments and who followed Me with all his heart, to do only what was right in My eyes;
9but you have done more evil than all who were before you, ⚓for you have gone and made for yourself other gods and molded images to provoke Me to anger, and ⚓have cast Me behind your back—
10therefore behold! ⚓I will bring disaster on the house of Jeroboam, and ⚓will cut off from Jeroboam every male in Israel, ⚓bond and free; I will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as one takes away refuse until it is all gone.
11The dogs shall eat ⚓whoever belongs to Jeroboam and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the field; for the Lord has spoken!” ’
12Arise therefore, go to your own house. ⚓When your feet enter the city, the child shall die.
13And all Israel shall mourn for him and bury him, for he is the only one of Jeroboam who shall come to the grave, because in him ⚓there is found something good toward the Lord God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.
14⚓“Moreover the Lord will raise up for Himself a king over Israel who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam; this is the day. What? Even now!
15For the Lord will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water. He will ⚓uproot Israel from this ⚓good land which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them ⚓beyond the River, ⚓because they have made their wooden images, provoking the Lord to anger.
16And He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, ⚓who sinned and who made Israel sin.”
17Then Jeroboam’s wife arose and departed, and came to ⚓Tirzah. ⚓When she came to the threshold of the house, the child died.
18And they buried him; and all Israel mourned for him, ⚓according to the word of the Lord which He spoke through His servant Ahijah the prophet.
Death of Jeroboam
19Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he ⚓made war and how he reigned, indeed they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
20The period that Jeroboam reigned was twenty-two years. So he rested with his fathers. ⚓Then Nadab his son reigned in his place.
Rehoboam Reigns in Judah
21And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. ⚓Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he became king. He reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city ⚓which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put His name there. ⚓His mother’s name was Naamah, an Ammonitess.
22⚓Now Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they ⚓provoked Him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, more than all that their fathers had done.
23For they also built for themselves ⚓high places, ⚓sacred pillars, and ⚓wooden images on every high hill and ⚓under every green tree.
24⚓And there were also perverted persons in the land. They did according to all the ⚓abominations of the nations which the Lord had cast out before the children of ⚓Israel.
25⚓It happened in the fifth year of King Rehoboam that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem.
26⚓And he took away the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house; he took away everything. He also took away all the gold shields ⚓which Solomon had made.
27Then King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who guarded the doorway of the king’s house.
28And whenever the king entered the house of the Lord, the guards carried them, then brought them back into the guardroom.
29⚓Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
30And there was ⚓war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days.
31⚓So Rehoboam rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David. ⚓His mother’s name was Naamah, an Ammonitess. Then ⚓Abijam his son reigned in his place.
