Đa-vít lên ngai vua Y-sơ-ra-ên

¹Nhân dân Y-sơ-ra-ên kéo đến Hếp-rôn, nói với Đa-vít: "Chúng tôi với ông là anh em ruột thịt. ²Ngay lúc Sau-lơ còn làm vua, ông chính là người dẫn chúng tôi ra (trận) và đưa chúng tôi về. Lúc ấy Chúa Hằng Hữu Thượng Đế ông có nói với ông: "Ngươi sẽ chăn nuôi dân Y-sơ-ra-ên Ta, làm vua của họ." ³Sau khi các trưởng lão họp với Đa-vít tại Hếp-rôn lần ấy, Đa-vít kết ước với họ trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu, và họ xức dầu tôn Đa-vít làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, đúng như lời Chúa Hằng Hữu bảo Sa-mu-ên nói trước.

Chiếm Giê-ru-sa-lem

⁴Sau đấy, Đa-vít cùng đi với nhân dân lên Giê-ru-sa-lem (lúc ấy gọi là Giê-bu vì là đất của thổ dân Giê-bu). ⁵Nhưng người ở Giê-bu chống cự, không chịu cho Đa-vít vào thành, nên Đa-vít chiếm đồn Si-ôn (về sau đổi tên là thành Đa-vít). ⁶Ông bảo thuộc hạ: "Ai đánh giết thổ dân Giê-bu trước tiên sẽ được làm tư lệnh quân đội." Giô-áp con Sê-ru-gia là người đầu tiên tấn công địch, nên được phong tư lệnh. ⁷Đa-vít ở trong đồn Si-ôn, vì thế nơi ấy được gọi là thành Đa-vít. ⁸Ông xây thành lũy bắt đầu từ Mi-lô; còn Giô-áp lo sửa sang phần còn lại của thành. ⁹Thế lực Đa-vít càng ngày càng tăng, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu Toàn năng phù hộ vua.

Các dũng sĩ của Đa-vít

¹⁰Trong hàng thuộc hạ của Đa-vít, có những anh hùng đứng đầu các dũng sĩ, giúp vua chiếm được nước và cùng với nhân dân, họ phò vua lên ngôi, đúng như lời của Chúa Hằng Hữu phán về Y-sơ-ra-ên. ¹¹Họ gồm có: Gia-sô-bê-am người Hác-mô-ni, đứng đầu nhóm "tam hùng". Ông múa thương đánh giết ba trăm người một lúc. ¹²Người thứ hai thuộc nhóm "tam hùng" là Ê-lê-a-sa, con Đô-đô người A-hô-a. ^13,14Trong một trận chiến tranh với quân Phi-li-tin ở Pha-đa-mim, Ê-lê-a-sa chiến đấu bên cạnh Đa-vít. Lúc ấy, người Y-sơ-ra-ên bắt đầu chạy trốn. Nhưng ông đứng giữa một khoảnh ruộng lúa mạch cự địch, chém giết quân Phi-li-tin và Chúa Hằng Hữu cho Y-sơ-ra-ên thắng lớn.
¹⁵Trong nhóm "Ba mươi dũng tướng", có ba người đi xuống hang đá A-đu-lam để gặp Đa-vít. Lúc ấy, quân đội Phi-li-tin đóng ở thung lũng Rê-pha-im, ¹⁶còn Đa-vít ở trong đồn. Lại có một tiền đồn Phi-li-tin ở Bết-lê-hem. ¹⁷Đa-vít thèm nước giếng bên cổng thành Bết-lê-hem. ¹⁸Ba người này băng đồn Phi-li-tin, múc nước giếng bên cổng thành Bết-lê-hem đem về cho Đa-vít. Nhưng Đa-vít không chịu uống, lấy nước ra dâng cho Chúa Hằng Hữu, ¹⁹và nói: "Xin Thượng Đế ngăn cản, đừng cho tôi uống. Vì đây là máu của ba người này, họ đã liều mạng mình đi lấy nước này."
²⁰A-bi-sai, em Giô-áp, đứng đầu nhóm "Ba mươi dũng tướng". Ông vung thương đâm chết ba trăm địch, nhờ thế danh tiếng ông chẳng kém gì "Ba anh hùng". ²¹lông đứng đầu và nổi tiếng nhất nhóm "Ba mươi dũng tướng", nhưng không có chân trong nhóm "tam hùng."
²²Bê-na-gia (con Giê-hô-gia-đa ở Cáp-xê-ên, một chiến sĩ anh dũng đã thực hiện nhiều việc lớn) giết hai người Mô-áp có sức mạnh như sư tử. Trong một ngày tuyết rơi, ông đánh chết một con sư tử dưới một cái hố. ²³Ông còn giết một người Ai-cập cao 2m30⚓, sử dụng một cây thương lớn như cái trục máy dệt. Lúc đánh người này, trong tay Bê-na-gia chỉ có một cây gậy. Ông giật thương của người Ai-cập, dùng khí giới định giết địch. ^24,25Nhờ những chiến công này, Bê-na-gia rất có danh vọng trong nhóm "Ba mươi dũng tướng" và nổi tiếng ngang hàng với "tam hùng", nhưng ông vẫn không có chân trong nhóm "tam hùng". Đa-vít đặt ông chỉ huy đoàn vệ binh.
²⁶Kế đến là các dũng sĩ sau đây: A-sa-ên em Giô-áp, Ên-ca-nan con Đô-đô ở Bết-lô-hem, ²⁷Sa-mốt người Ha-rô, Hê-lết người Phê-lô, ²⁸Y-ra con Y-kết ở Thê-cô-a, A-bi-ê-xe ở A-na-tốt, ²⁹Si-bê-cai người Hu-sa, Y-lai người A-hô, ³⁰Ma-hai-rai ở Nê-tô-pha, Hê-lết con Ba-a-na ở Nê-tô-pha, ³¹Y-tai con Ri-bai, một người Bên-gia-min ở Ghi-bê-a, Bê-na-gia ở Phi-ra-thôn, ³²Hu-rai ở bên suối Ga-ách, A-bi-ên người A-ra-ba, ³³Ách-ma-vết ở Ba-hu-rum, Ê-li-ác-ba ở Sa-anh-bôn, ³⁴Bê-nê-ha-sem⚓ người Ghi-xô, Giô-na-than con Sa-ghê người Ha-ra, ³⁵A-hi-giam con Sa-ca người Ha-ra, Ê-li-phan con U-rơ, ³⁶Hê-pha ở Mê-kê-ra, A-hi-gia ở Pha-lô, ³⁷Hết-rô ở Cát-mên, Na-a-rai con Ết-bai, ³⁸Giô-ên em của Na-than, Míp-ha con Ha-gơ-ri, ³⁹Xê-léc dân Am-môn, Na-ha-rai ở Bê-ê-rốt là người cận vệ của Giô-áp, ⁴⁰Y-ra và Ga-rép đều ở Giê-the, ⁴¹U-ri người Hết, Xa-bát con Ạc-lai, ⁴²A-đi-na con Si-xa người Ru-bên, một lãnh tụ của đại tộc Ru-bên (ông có ba mươi thuộc hạ), ⁴³Ha-nan con Ma-a-ca, Giô-sa-phát ở Mê-then, ⁴⁴U-xia ở Ách-ta-rốt, Sa-ma và Giê-hi-ên con của Hô-tam ở A-rô-e, ⁴⁵Giê-đi-a-ên con Sim-ri, Giô-ha và người em ở Thi-sít, ⁴⁶Ê-li-ên ở Ma-ha-vim, Giê-ri-bai và Giô-sa-via con Ên-na-am, Gít-ma dân Mô-áp, ⁴⁷Ê-li-ên, Ô-bết và Gia-a-si-ên người Mết-sô-ba.

David Made King over All Israel

¹Then ⚓all Israel came together to David at Hebron, saying, “Indeed we are your bone and your flesh. ²Also, in time past, even when Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the Lord your ⚓God said to you, ‘You shall ⚓shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over My people Israel.’ ” ³Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And ⚓they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by ⚓Samuel.

The City of David

⁴And David and all Israel ⚓went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, ⚓where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land. ⁵But the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You shall not come in here!” Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David). ⁶Now David said, “Whoever attacks the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain.” And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and became chief. ⁷Then David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the City of David. ⁸And he built the city around it, from the Millo to the surrounding area. Joab repaired the rest of the city. ⁹So David ⚓went on and became great, and the Lord of hosts was with ⚓him.

The Mighty Men of David

¹⁰Now ⚓these were the heads of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, according to ⚓the word of the Lord concerning Israel.
¹¹And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: ⚓Jashobeam the son of a Hachmonite, ⚓chief of the captains; he had lifted up his spear against three hundred, killed by him at one time.
¹²After him was Eleazar the son of ⚓Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men. ¹³He was with David at Pasdammim. Now there the Philistines were gathered for battle, and there was a piece of ground full of barley. So the people fled from the Philistines. ¹⁴But they stationed themselves in the middle of that field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. So the Lord brought about a great victory.
¹⁵Now three of the thirty chief men ⚓went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the army of the Philistines encamped ⚓in the Valley of Rephaim. ¹⁶David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem. ¹⁷And David said with longing, “Oh, that someone would give me a drink of water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!” ¹⁸So the three broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless David would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord. ¹⁹And he said, “Far be it from me, O my God, that I should do this! Shall I drink the blood of these men who have put their lives in jeopardy? For at the risk of their lives they brought it.” Therefore he would not drink it. These things were done by the three mighty men.
²⁰⚓Abishai the brother of Joab was chief of another three. He had lifted up his spear against three hundred men, killed them, and won a name among these three. ²¹⚓Of the three he was more honored than the other two men. Therefore he became their captain. However he did not attain to the first three.
²²Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from Kabzeel, who had done many deeds. ⚓He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day. ²³And he killed an Egyptian, a man of great height, five cubits tall. In the Egyptian’s hand there was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, wrested the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear. ²⁴These things Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did, and won a name among three mighty men. ²⁵Indeed he was more honored than the thirty, but he did not attain to the first three. And David appointed him over his guard.
²⁶Also the mighty warriors were⚓Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem, ²⁷Shammoth the Harorite, ⚓Helez the Pelonite, ²⁸⚓Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, ⚓Abiezer the Anathothite, ²⁹Sibbechai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite, ³⁰⚓Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite, ³¹Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah, of the sons of Benjamin, ⚓Benaiah the Pirathonite, ³²Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite, ³³Azmaveth the Baharumite, Eliahba the Shaalbonite, ³⁴the sons of Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shageh the Hararite, ³⁵Ahiam the son of Sacar the Hararite, Eliphal the son of Ur, ³⁶Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite, ³⁷Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the son of Ezbai, ³⁸Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Hagri, ³⁹Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite (the armorbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah), ⁴⁰Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite, ⁴¹⚓Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai, ⁴²Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite (a chief of the Reubenites) and thirty with him, ⁴³Hanan the son of Maachah, Joshaphat the Mithnite, ⁴⁴Uzzia the Ashterathite, Shama and Jeiel the sons of Hotham the Aroerite, ⁴⁵Jediael the son of Shimri, and Joha his brother, the Tizite, ⁴⁶Eliel the Mahavite, Jeribai and Joshaviah the sons of Elnaam, Ithmah the Moabite, ⁴⁷Eliel, Obed, and Jaasiel the Mezobaite.
