Ý nghĩa việc mua đám ruộng

¹Năm thứ 10 triều vua Sê-đê-kia nước Giu-đa (tức là năm thứ 18 triều vua Nê-bu- cát-nết-sa), Chúa bảo Giê-rê-mi mua một đám ruộng. ²Thời kỳ ấy, quân đội Ba-by-luân đang bao vây thủ đô; còn tiên tri Giê- rê-mi đang bị giam cầm tại hành lang 'Lính canh' trong cung điện vua Giu-đa. ³Sê-đê-kia đã ra lệnh tống giam Giê-rê-mi và buộc tội: "Sao ngươi dám tuyên truyền rằng Chúa phán: Này, Ta sẽ nộp thành phố này cho vua Ba-by-luân, cho nó chiếm đóng, ⁴rằng Sê-đê-kia, vua Giu-đa sẽ bị bắt, không thể nào thoát khỏi tay quân Ba-by-luân, sẽ bị giải tới trước mặt vua Ba-by-luân để ra vấn. ⁵Vua ấy sẽ giải Sê-đê-kia về Ba-by-luân và giam cầm vua cho đến ngày vua qua đời⚓ rằng đó chính là lời Chúa; rằng dù vua kháng chiến anh dũng đến đâu cũng không thắng quân Ba-by-luân được?
⁶Giê-rê-mi thuật lại: "Chúa bảo tôi: ⁷Này, Ha-na-mê-ên, con trai Sa-lum chú con sẽ đến thăm con để đề nghị bán đám ruộng của nó ở A-na-tốt, vì nó đã cầm cố đi, nay con có quyền bỏ tiền ra chuộc để mua đứt đám ruộng."
⁸Quả nhiên, Ha-na-mê-ên, em chú bác với tôi đến thăm tôi trong tù và đề nghị: "Anh làm ơn mua giúp em đám ruộng di sản của ông bà tại A-na-tốt, xứ Bên-gia- min! Em đã cầm cố đi, nay theo đúng luật,⚓ anh có quyền ưu tiên được chuộc lại, mua đứt và giữ làm gia sản!" Tôi biết ngay lời Chúa báo trước thật là chính xác.
⁹Tôi liền chấp thuận đề nghị ấy, trả cho Ha-na-mê-ên 17 lạng bạc để mua đám ruộng ở A-na-tốt, xứ Bên-gia-min. ¹⁰Tôi ký văn khế đoạn mãi, mời các nhân chứng ký, đưa cho chính quyền đóng dấu thị thực và niêm phong, cân đủ số bạc và trả cho em tôi. ^11-14Tôi cầm tờ khế đã niêm phong và một bản sao giao cho nhà tiên tri Đa-trúc (con trai Nê-ri-gia, cháu Ma-a-sê-gia). Ngay trước mặt Ha-na-mê-ên, các nhân chứng và đội lính canh, tôi vừa đưa vừa bảo Ba-trúc: "Chúa Hằng Hữu Toàn năng, Chân Thần của Y-sơ-ra-ên bảo: 'Hãy lấy hai tờ văn khế cả bản chính và bản sao cất trong một bình gốm để giữ cho được lâu năm.' ¹⁵Vì Chúa Toàn năng, Chân Thần của Y-sơ-ra-ên, phán: 'Sau thời kỳ lưu đày, dân chúng sẽ lại mua nhà, ruộng và vườn nho trong xứ Y-sơ-ra-ên.'
¹⁶Sau khi giao các văn kiện mua đất cho Ba-trúc (con trai Nê-ri-gia), tôi bèn cầu nguyện với Chúa: ¹⁷“Thưa Chúa Tự Hữu Hằng Hữu. Chính Ngài đã dùng quyền năng vĩ đại và cánh tay vô địch mà sáng tạo vũ trụ nên chẳng có việc gì khó quá cho Chúa. ¹⁸Ngài tỏ lòng nhân từ thương xót cho hàng triệu người, nhưng vẫn phạt con cháu vì tội lỗi của tổ phụ. Ngài là Thần vĩ đại toàn năng, là Chúa tể ức triệu thiên binh. ¹⁹Ngài là Đấng khôn ngoan tuyệt đối, hay làm những phép lạ vĩ đại diệu kỳ, vì mắt Chúa quan sát nếp sống của loài người; Ngài thưởng phạt công minh đúng theo nếp sống, hành động của mỗi người. ²⁰Chúa đã thực hiện những phép lạ kinh thiên động địa tại Ai-cập mà nhân dân còn ghi nhớ đến ngày nay. Chúa đã tiếp tục thi thố những phép lạ vĩ đại tại nước Y-sơ-ra-ên và toàn thế giới. Ngày nay cả nhân loại đều kính sợ Danh lớn lao cao cả của Ngài.
²¹Chúa đã giải phóng Y-sơ-ra-ên ra khỏi ngục tù Ai-cập sau khi hoàn thành những phép lạ lớn lao với quyền năng vĩ đại, làm cho mọi người khiếp sự. ²²Chúa đã cho dân tộc Y-sơ-ra-ên đất nước này, đúng như Ngài hứa vối tổ phụ chúng con từ xưa, đất đai màu mỡ, 'đượm sữa và mật'. ²³tổ phụ chúng con đã vào chiếm cả giang sơn này làm cơ nghiệp. Tuy nhiên, họ không vâng lời Chúa, không vâng giữ⚓ luật pháp Ngài, không thi hành một mạng lệnh nào của Chúa. Vì thế, Chúa phải giáng tai họa xuống. ²⁴Xin Chúa xem các pháo đài cao như núi⚓ của người Canh-đê⚓ đã xây lên để tiến công vào thành lũy thủ đô! Người Ba-by-luân sắp chiếm đóng thủ đô không những bằng quân lực, họ còn được nạn đói và bệnh dịch tiếp tay. Tất cả các biến cố dồn dập ấy xảy ra đúng như lời Chúa đã bảo trước, theo chương trình Ngài đã ấn định. ²⁵Thế mà Chúa còn bảo con mua ruộng và trả một số bạc lớn trước mặt các nhân chứng làm chi? Địch sắp tràn vào chiếm đóng cả đất nước rồi!"
²⁶Chúa liền trả lời cho Giê-rê-mi: ²⁷“Ta là Chúa Tể, là Chân Thần của cả nhân loại. Có việc gì khó quá cho Ta đâu! ²⁸Phải, Ta sẽ nộp thành phố này vào tay quân dội Ba-by-luân và vua Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa. Vua sẽ chiếm đóng thành phố. ²⁹Quân đội Ba-by-luân đang tiến công sẽ vào phóng hỏa đốt thành phố với tất cả các đền đài mà dân Giu-đa thường leo lên sân thượng dâng hương cho thần Ba-anh và dâng rượu cho các tà thần khác để chọc giận Ta. ³⁰Vì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa chỉ biết làm ác từ ngày mới dựng nước, tay họ tạo đủ mọi thứ để khiêu khích Ta. ³¹Từ khi thành phố này dược sáng lập đến nay, dân cư nó chỉ chuyên chọc giận Ta nên Ta quyết định dẹp nó đi!
³²Tội lỗi của Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa, từ vua, quan, thầy tế lễ, tiên tri đến tất cả các thường dân, đều đã chọc tức Ta. ³³Chúng xây lưng lìa bỏ Ta và không chịu quay về. Ngày này sang ngày khác, năm nọ đến năm kia, Ta kiên nhẫn dạy dân đường ngay lẽ phải, phân biệt chính tà, nhưng chúng không chịu nghe và thực hành. ³⁴Chúng dám đem thần tượng ghê tởm vào làm ô uế Đền thờ Ta. ³⁵Chúng còn xây các bàn thờ cao cho tà thần Ba-anh trong thung lũng Hi-nôm. Chúng nhẫn tâm thiêu sống con cái chúng để dâng tế thần Mô-lóc, là việc Ta chẳng bao giờ truyền bảo hoặc nghĩ tới. Thật là tội ác không thể nào tưởng tượng được; nó lôi cuốn toàn dân phạm tội nặng nề.
³⁶Vì thế, Chúa là Chân Thần của Y-sơ-ra-ên cảnh cáo: Thành phố này sẽ rơi vào tay vua Ba-by-luân do chiến tranh, nạn đói và bệnh dịch. ³⁷Tuy nhiên, Ta sẽ đem dân Ta về nước từ tất cả các xứ mà Ta đã rải họ ra trong cơn phẫn nộ. Ta sẽ đem họ về trong thành phố này, cho họ được an cư lạc nghiệp. ³⁸Họ sẽ làm dân Ta và Ta sẽ làm Chân Thần của họ. ³⁹Ta sẽ cho họ đồng tâm nhất trí thờ phượng Ta mãi mãi, vì ích lợi cho bản thân họ cũng như cho tất cả dòng dõi họ.
⁴⁰Ta sẽ lập một giao-ước đời đời với họ: cam kết sẽ chẳng bao giờ lìa bỏ họ và sẽ ban phúc lành cho họ. Ta sẽ đặt niềm kính sợ Ta vào lòng họ để họ không bao giờ lìa bỏ Ta nữa. ⁴¹Ta sẽ vui lòng giáng phúc dồi dào và hết lòng duy trì, củng cố tổ quốc họ.⚓ ⁴²Ta đã giữ đúng lời cảnh cáo về tai họa thể nào, Ta cũng sẽ giữ đúng lời hứa ban phúc lành cho họ thể ấy.
⁴³Người ta sẽ mua bán ruộng đất trong xứ này, mặc dù hiện nay quân đội Ba-by-luân đang tàn phá đất nước, đến nỗi tiêu diệt cả người lẫn thú vật. ⁴⁴Phải, nhân dân sẽ lại mua bán ruộng đất, ký văn khế, đóng dấu thị thực và niêm phong để cất giữ lâu đời. Người ta sẽ mua bán đất từ khắp vùng thôn quê xứ Bên-gia-min đến các khu thị tứ Giê-ru-sa-lem, các thành phố Giu-đa, các vùng đồi núi, các đồng bằng Phi-li-tin, đến tận xứ Nê-ghép, vì lúc đó Ta sẽ làm cho cả đất nước này phồn thịnh.

Jeremiah Buys a Field

¹The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord⚓in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar. ²For then the king of Babylon’s army besieged Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up ⚓in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah’s house. ³For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, “Why do you ⚓prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord: ⚓“Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it; ⁴and Zedekiah king of Judah ⚓shall not escape from the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him face to face, and see him ⚓eye to eye; ⁵then he shall ⚓lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there he shall be ⚓until I visit him,” says the Lord; ⚓“though you fight with the Chaldeans, you shall not succeed” ’?”
⁶And Jeremiah said, “The word of the Lord came to me, saying, ⁷‘Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you, saying, “Buy my field which is in Anathoth, for the ⚓right of redemption is yours to buy it.” ’ ⁸Then Hanamel my uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the Lord, and said to me, ‘Please buy my field that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption yours; buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord. ⁹So I bought the field from Hanamel, the son of my uncle who was in Anathoth, and ⚓weighed out to him the money—seventeen shekels of silver. ¹⁰And I signed the deed and sealed it, took witnesses, and weighed the money on the scales. ¹¹So I took the purchase deed, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open; ¹²and I gave the purchase deed to ⚓Baruch the son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and in the presence of the ⚓witnesses who signed the purchase deed, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the prison.
¹³“Then I charged ⚓Baruch before them, saying, ¹⁴‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Take these deeds, both this purchase deed which is sealed and this deed which is open, and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may last many days.” ¹⁵For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Houses and fields and vineyards shall be ⚓possessed again in this land.” ’

Jeremiah Prays for Understanding

¹⁶“Now when I had delivered the purchase deed to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to the Lord, saying: ¹⁷‘Ah, Lord God! Behold, ⚓You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. ⚓There is nothing too hard for You. ¹⁸You show ⚓lovingkindness to thousands, and repay the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them—the Great, ⚓the Mighty God, whose name is⚓the Lord of hosts. ¹⁹You are⚓great in counsel and mighty in work, for Your ⚓eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, ⚓to give everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings. ²⁰You have set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, to this day, and in Israel and among other men; and You have made Yourself ⚓a name, as it is this day. ²¹You ⚓have brought Your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and wonders, with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and with great terror; ²²You have given them this land, of which You swore to their fathers to give them—⚓“a land flowing with milk and honey.” ²³And they came in and took possession of it, but ⚓they have not obeyed Your voice or walked in Your law. They have done nothing of all that You commanded them to do; therefore You have caused all this calamity to come upon them.
²⁴‘Look, the siege mounds! They have come to the city to take it; and the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of ⚓the sword and famine and pestilence. What You have spoken has happened; there You see it! ²⁵And You have said to me, O Lord God, “Buy the field for money, and take witnesses”!—yet the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans.’ ”

God’s Assurance of the People’s Return

²⁶Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, ²⁷“Behold, I am the Lord, the ⚓God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me? ²⁸Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it. ²⁹And the Chaldeans who fight against this city shall come and ⚓set fire to this city and burn it, with the houses ⚓on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke Me to anger; ³⁰because the children of Israel and the children of Judah ⚓have done only evil before Me from their youth. For the children of Israel have provoked Me only to anger with the work of their hands,’ says the Lord. ³¹‘For this city has been to Me a provocation of My anger and My fury from the day that they built it, even to this day; ⚓so I will remove it from before My face ³²because of all the evil of the children of Israel and the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke Me to anger—⚓they, their kings, their princes, their priests, ⚓their prophets, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ³³And they have turned to Me the ⚓back, and not the face; though I taught them, ⚓rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction. ³⁴But they ⚓set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to defile it. ³⁵And they built the high places of Baal which are in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to ⚓cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to ⚓Molech, ⚓which I did not command them, nor did it come into My mind that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.’
³⁶“Now therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, ‘It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence’: ³⁷Behold, I will ⚓gather them out of all countries where I have driven them in My anger, in My fury, and in great wrath; I will bring them back to this place, and I will cause them ⚓to dwell safely. ³⁸They shall be ⚓My people, and I will be their God; ³⁹then I will ⚓give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them and their children after them. ⁴⁰And ⚓I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but ⚓I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me. ⁴¹Yes, ⚓I will rejoice over them to do them good, and ⚓I will assuredly plant them in this land, with all My heart and with all My soul.’
⁴²“For thus says the Lord: ⚓‘Just as I have brought all this great calamity on this people, so I will bring on them all the good that I have promised them. ⁴³And fields will be bought in this land ⚓of which you say, “It is desolate, without man or beast; it has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans.” ⁴⁴Men will buy fields for money, sign deeds and seal them, and take witnesses, in ⚓the land of Benjamin, in the places around Jerusalem, in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South; for ⚓I will cause their captives to return,’ says the Lord.”
