Giô-si-a
1Giô-si-a được 8 tuổi khi lên ngai và trị vì được 31 năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.
2Vua làm điều công chính thiện hảo trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu, theo đúng đường lối của Đa-vít, tổ phụ mình, không sai lệch chút nào.
3Trị vì đến năm thứ 8 dù còn thiếu niên, Giô-si-a bắt đầu tìm kiếm Thượng Đế của tổ phụ mình là Đa-vít. Năm thứ 12 vua quét sạch đất nước Giu-đa và kinh đô không còn một miếu thần trên đỉnh các đồi núi, cũng không còn tượng nữ thần A-sê-ra, hoặc tượng chạm, tượng đúc nào.
4Trước mặt vua, người ta đập phá các bàn thờ thần Ba-anh. Vua cũng triệt hạ các hình tượng, các miếu thần, tượng đúc, nghiền nát ra bụi và rải bên mồ mả của những kẻ đã tế lễ cho các tượng ấy.
5Vua thiêu hài cốt các thầy tế lễ tà thần trên bàn thờ của họ và tẩy sạch Giu-đa, Giê-ru-sa-lem.
6Trong tất cả các thành thuộc đại tộc Ma-na-se, Ép-ra-im, Si-mê-ôn và cả Nép-ta-li nữa, vua không để lại một dấu vết tế thần nào.
7Sau khi hủy phá các bàn thờ, các tượng A-sê-ra, nghiền nát các tượng chạm, và triệt hạ tất cả hình tượng khắp đất nước Y-sơ-ra-ên, Giô-si-a trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem.
8Năm thứ 18 sau khi tẩy thanh đất nước, vua sai Sa-phan (con A-xa-lia), Ma-a-sê-gia, đô trưởng, và Giô-ách (con ngự sử Giô-a-cha) sửa chữa Đền thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu là Thượng Đế của mình.
9Họ đến yết kiến thầy tế lễ tối cao Hinh-kia, giao số tiền dâng vào Đền thờ Chúa và số tiền mà người Lê-vi gác cổng Đền thờ đã thu của người Ma-na-se, Ép-ra-im và những người Y-sơ-ra-ên khác⚓ cũng như toàn dân Giu-đa, Bên-gia-min và Giê-ru-sa-lem.
10Họ giao số tiền ấy cho các đốc công điều khiển chương trình sửa chữa Đền thờ và các thợ thuyền để trùng tu và thực hiện các công trình kiến trúc.
11Họ cũng giao tiền cho các chuyên viên, các thợ nề, để mua đá, gỗ tái thiết các cơ sở mà các vua Giu-đa thời trước đã phá hủy.
12Tất cả đều chuyên cần làm việc dưới quyền lãnh đạo của Gia-bát, Áp-đia (người Lê-vi, thuộc dòng họ Mê-ra-ri), Xa-cha-ri và Mê-su-lam (thuộc dòng họ Kê-hát) và tất cả những nhạc công người Lê-vi.
13Họ cũng điều khiển đoàn phu khuân vác và tất cả các công nhân trong mỗi ngành công tác, và các ký lục (người Lê-vi), các sĩ quan và các lính gác cổng.
14Khi họ đem ra số tiền đã dâng vào Đền thờ Chúa, thầy tế lễ tối cao Hinh-kia tìm được bộ Kinh luật của Mai-sen.
15Hinh-kia bảo ký lục Sa-phan: "Tôi đã tìm được bộ Kinh luật trong Đền thờ Chúa!" rồi giao Sách ấy cho Sa-phan.
16Sa-phan đem Sách về trình cho vua và báo cáo:
17“Tất cả các công tác bệ hạ ủy thác đều đang được thực hiện. Họ xuất tiền bạc trong Đền thờ ra giao cho các đốc công và các công nhân."
18Sa-phan tiếp: "Thầy tế lễ thượng phẩm Hinh-kia cũng giao bộ sách này cho tôi," rồi đọc sách cho vua nghe.
19Nghe lời Chúa trong Kinh luật, vua Giô-si-a liền xé vương bào,
20và ra lệnh cho Hinh-kia, A-hi-cam (con Sa-phan), Áp-đôn (con Mai-ca), ngự sử Sa-phan và A-sa-gia (cận thần của vua) :
21“Các ngươi hãy đi thay ta và thay nhân dân Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa mà tìm kiếm Chúa. Vì theo lời bộ sách mới tìm được, cơn phẫn nộ Chúa đang đổ ra trên chúng ta thật là dữ dội vì tổ phụ chúng ta không vâng giữ lời Chúa dã ghi trong sách này!"
22Hinh-kia và phái đoàn của vua đến yết kiến nữ tiên tri Hun-đa, vợ của Sa-lum (con Tích va, cháu Ha-sơ-ra, người giữ áo lễ). Bà đang ngụ tại quận nhì, kinh đô Giê-ru-sa-lem. Nghe họ trình bày mọi sự,
23Hun-đa bảo: "Chúa Hằng Hữu, Thượng Đế của Y-sơ-ra-ên, phán: 'Hãy trình cho người sai các ngươi đến cùng Ta.
24Chúa Hằng Hữu dạy: Này, Ta sẽ đổ tai họa trên đất nước này, trên nhân dân, theo tất cả các lời nguyền rủa đã ghi trong sách mà người ta đọc cho vua Giu-đa nghe,
25vì chúng đã lìa bỏ Ta mà dâng hương cho các thần khác, để chọc giận Ta bằng các vật tay chúng chế tạo; nên cơn phẫn nộ Ta sẽ đổ xuống đất nước này không ngớt.⚓
26Các ngươi hãy trình lại cho vua Giu-đa, là người đã sai các ngươi cầu hỏi Chúa Hằng Hữu, rằng: Chúa Hằng Hữu, Thượng Đế của Y-sơ-ra-ên phán: Con đã nghe lời Ta,
27và vì lòng con mềm mại, con đã hạ mình trước mặt Thượng Đế khi con nghe lời Ta phán dạy về đất nước này và về nhân dân, con phủ phục trước mặt Ta, xé áo, khóc lóc trước mặt Ta, nên Ta cũng nghe con.
28Này, Ta sẽ đem con về với tổ phụ con; con sẽ qua đời bình an, mắt con sẽ không thấy những tai họa Ta sẽ đổ xuống đất nước và nhân dân này!" Phái đoàn về báo cáo cho vua đầy đủ.
29,30Vua ra lệnh triệu tập tất cả các trưởng lão Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem, các thầy tế lễ người Lê-vi cùng toàn thể nhân dân, bất luận lớn nhỏ. Vua lên Đền thờ đọc cho họ nghe rõ từng câu từng chữ trong bộ Sách giao ước tìm được trong Đền thờ Chúa.
31Vua đứng trên bệ dành cho mình và lập giao ước trước mặt Chúa, hứa nguyện theo Chúa hết lòng và hết linh hồn, vâng giữ các điều răn, và chứng cớ, giới mạng Ngài, thi hành các lời giao ước đã ghi trong sách này.
32Vua cũng ra lệnh cho toàn thể nhân dân ở Giê-ru-sa-lem và Bên-gia-min vâng giữ giao ước ấy. Họ bèn vâng theo giao ước của Thượng Đế, Chân Thần của tổ phụ họ.
33Giô-si-a dẹp sạch tất cả các thần tượng trong khắp đất nước và khiến mọi người trong nước Y-sơ-ra-ên đều phục vụ Chúa Hằng Hữu, Thượng Đế của họ. Suốt đời Giô-si-a, nhân dân theo Chúa, không lìa bỏ Chân Thần của tổ phụ mình.

Josiah Reigns in Judah
1Josiah ⚓was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.
2And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
3For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still ⚓young, he began to ⚓seek the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began ⚓to purge Judah and Jerusalem ⚓of the high places, the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images.
4⚓They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence, and the incense altars which were above them he cut down; and the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images he broke in pieces, and made dust of them ⚓and scattered it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
5He also ⚓burned the bones of the priests on their ⚓altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.
6And so he did in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, as far as Naphtali and all around, with axes.
7When he had broken down the altars and the wooden images, had ⚓beaten the carved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
Hilkiah Finds the Book of the Law
8⚓In the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the temple, he sent ⚓Shaphan the son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the ⚓governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God.
9When they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered ⚓the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites who kept the doors had gathered from the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the ⚓remnant of Israel, from all Judah and Benjamin, and which they had brought back to Jerusalem.
10Then they put it in the hand of the foremen who had the oversight of the house of the Lord; and they gave it to the workmen who worked in the house of the Lord, to repair and restore the house.
11They gave it to the craftsmen and builders to buy hewn stone and timber for beams, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
12And the men did the work faithfully. Their overseers were Jahath and Obadiah the Levites, of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to supervise. Others of the Levites, all of whom were skillful with instruments of music,
13were⚓over the burden bearers and were overseers of all who did work in any kind of service. ⚓And some of the Levites were scribes, officers, and gatekeepers.
14Now when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest ⚓found the Book of the Law of the Lordgiven by Moses.
15Then Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the ⚓book to Shaphan.
16So Shaphan carried the book to the king, bringing the king word, saying, “All that was committed to your servants they are doing.
17And they have gathered the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers and the workmen.”
18Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king.
19Thus it happened, when the king heard the words of the Law, that he tore his clothes.
20Then the king commanded Hilkiah, ⚓Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king, saying,
21“Go, inquire of the Lord for me, and for those who are left in Israel and Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is the wrath of the Lord that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not ⚓kept the word of the Lord, to do according to all that is written in this book.”
22So Hilkiah and those the king had appointed went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe. (She dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter.) And they spoke to her to that effect.
23Then she answered them, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘Tell the man who sent you to Me,
24“Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will ⚓bring calamity on this place and on its inhabitants, all the curses that are written in the ⚓book which they have read before the king of Judah,
25because they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore My wrath will be poured out on this place, and not be quenched.’ ” ’
26But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, in this manner you shall speak to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: “Concerning the words which you have heard—
27because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its inhabitants, and you humbled yourself before Me, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you,” says the ⚓Lord.
28“Surely I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace; and your eyes shall not see all the calamity which I will bring on this place and its inhabitants.” ’ ” So they brought back word to the king.
Josiah Restores True Worship
29⚓Then the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30The king went up to the house of the Lord, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem—the priests and the Levites, and all the people, great and small. And he ⚓read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant which had been found in the house of the Lord.
31Then the king ⚓stood in ⚓his place and made a ⚓covenant before the Lord, to follow the Lord, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.
32And he made all who were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin take a stand. So the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
33Thus Josiah removed all the ⚓abominations from all the country that belonged to the children of Israel, and made all who were present in Israel diligently serve the Lord their God. ⚓All his days they did not depart from following the Lord God of their fathers.
