Sau-lơ tự sát
1Trong lúc đó, trận chiến giữa người Y-sơ-ra-ên và Phi-li-tin bùng nổ. Người Y-sơ-ra-ên thua chạy, bị giết vô số trên núi Ghinh-bô-a.
2Quân Phi-li-tin đuổi theo Sau-lơ, giết ba con ông là Giô-na-than, A-bi-na-đáp và Manh-ki-sua.
3Thế trận càng gay cấn khi Sau-lơ bị các xạ thủ địch đuổi bắn. Vua bị trúng tên và trọng thương.
4Sau-lơ bảo người mang khí giới cho mình: "Lấy kiếm giết ta đi, đừng để những người vô tín kia đâm chém, hành hạ ta." Nhưng người ấy sợ, không dám giết. Sau-lơ dựng kiếm lên rồi ngã nhào vào.
5Khi người mang khí giới của Sau-lơ thấy vua chết rồi, cũng dùng mũi kiếm mình tự sát.
6Vậy trong ngày hôm ấy, Sau-lơ với ba con trai, người mang khí giới, và các thuộc hạ ông cùng chết
7Người Y-sơ-ra-ên ở bên kia thung lũng và bên kia sông Giô-đan nghe tin quân Y-sơ-ra-ên chạy trốn, Sau-lơ và ba con ông đã chết, họ bỏ thành trốn đi. Người Phi-li-tin chiếm các thành ấy.
8Hôm sau, khi người Phi-li-tin đi thu dọn chiến trường, mới khám phá rằng Sau-lơ và ba con vua đều chết trên núi Ghinh-bô-a.
9Họ cắt đầu Sau-lơ, tước lột khí giới vua, rồi sai người đi khắp lãnh thổ Phi-li-tin báo tin mừng chiến thắng trong các đền thờ thần tượng và trong nhân dân.
10Họ để khí giới vua trong miếu thờ Ách-ta-rốt, còn xác vua họ treo trên tường thành Bết-san.
11Các dũng sĩ ở Ga-la-át, hay được những điều người Phi-li-tin làm,
12cùng nhau ra đi suốt đêm, đến Bết-san gỡ xác Sau-lơ và các con ông khỏi tường thành, đem về Gia-be hỏa táng,
13rồi lấy cốt chôn cạnh gốc một cây sồi. Họ kiêng ăn suốt bảy ngày để tang Sau-lơ.

The Tragic End of Saul and His Sons
1Now ⚓the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell slain on Mount ⚓Gilboa.
2Then the Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons. And the Philistines killed ⚓Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons.
3⚓The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him, and he was severely wounded by the archers.
4⚓Then Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest ⚓these uncircumcised men come and thrust me through and abuse me.”
But his armorbearer would not, ⚓for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and ⚓fell on it.
5And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword, and died with him.
6So Saul, his three sons, his armorbearer, and all his men died together that same day.
7And when the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, and those who were on the other side of the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8So it happened the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9And they cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and sent word throughout the land of the Philistines, to ⚓proclaim it in the temple of their idols and among the people.
10⚓Then they put his armor in the temple of the ⚓Ashtoreths, and ⚓they fastened his body to the wall of ⚓Beth Shan.
11⚓Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
12⚓all the valiant men arose and traveled all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth Shan; and they came to Jabesh and ⚓burned them there.
13Then they took their bones and ⚓buried them under the tamarisk tree at ⚓Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
